Poor Jay! He looks so hot. He sure doesn't need to lose any weight, either! I'm in favor of the porch matching the door, especially since Abby wants white rails and porch skirting like her inspiration photo. It's going to look fabulous! Abby's entire journey to build the home she wants and deserves is so worthy. Her interior doors are going to make it look great. The Amish work is honest and beautiful, she will start out with all of her doors being heirloom quality. Smart decision!
I think having the porch the same color as the door would be stunning against the white columns and house. Plus I think the darker stain will hide dirt better.
The porch is gorgeous. Thanks to dad & Jay for all their hard work to make it happen. Definitely a medium to darker stain to coordinate with the doors & to hide scuffs & dirt. I think it will also make the white trim & posts really pop. Love the sample photo you showed.
If you care what I think, I feel the dark stain like the doors will be beautiful with the house painted white. This house is coming along so beautifully. You and Jay make a great team.
Don’t paint the porch White or any light stain, because after a year you will see a dark path where you walk. Being a dark path to your doorway. Stay with a natural wood stain, possibly a little darker to help the two batches of wood blend. What I really would like to say is you’re a hard working young lady, an inspiration for other young women. All things are possible with the right inspiration. You have been there every step of the way, working hard to make your vision come true. I can’t remember his name but without your general contractor friend who has been there with you since the beginning. You might not make it by Winter but you will definitely make it. Everything takes time and even when you move in you won’t be done but you will be able to take a long sigh releasing all negative energy. In turn you will have a big smile knowing your accomplishment.
I am enjoying this transformation so much! The porch looks so good and I agree, match that gorgeous door. Loved seeing your family all sitting around on the porch together and am sure there will be many happy memories made in that wonderful space. ❤
Y'all should watch Abby's dad's channel, Working Horses with Jim, where she sings the national anthem and is the announcer for a horse pull! She does amazing! Just like she's doing amazing on this gorgeous home!! (Just thought I'd mention it!! 😊) That wood is beautiful! So awesome to have a porch like that! Nice to have company to kinda celebrate! Oh, the finishing work is so nice! It's hard to work in the heat! I like the medium color on the porch floor! Another step in the 'finished' direction!! Love it!! 💕
The floor would look great in the dark. I personally would wait to paint the siding white until you have your outside area completed & either turfed or mulched with something to avoid the constant splashback. Gutters would help with that & divert rainwater away from your house.
Yes she did! She has such perfect pitch. Way to pull that load Barry and Billy! (Her mom Brenda’s name for the horses). They worked so hard. It’s a gold medal family all around. ❤
I think your doors will stand out more if the porch floors are lighter than the doors. It’s the same idea as your window trim inside being lighter and the doors stand out on the inside. It doesn’t have to match exactly. Lots of people paint their doors a different color so it stands out esthetically for curb appeal. Your doors already stand out because they are a gorgeous dark stain. So going lighter on the floors will let the dark doors be a beautiful focal point. Trust your gut, you have great taste. ❤️
You are truly blessed, you have parents that own a sawmill and your Dads channel is awesome "Working horses with Jim" and Jay who built everything exactly as you wanted it. Everything in the house is built by a skilled craftsman. I mean who can afford that kind of construction, lol not me . But seriously coming along beautifully😊
A large box fan might have helped circulating the air. I'm a senior too...and the thought of having to work outside this time of the year is not something I prefer to do. Take good care of that man, Abby...he's a treasure.
I like the idea of the door and the porch being the same color. It will look more inviting, and have an even flow about it. Great job everyone! I hope that Jay was able to cool down after that really hot day.😊
I vote for light on the floor. That grain and natural color is gorgeous and if left a light color it would not take away from the dark door, which in and of itself, is such a show piece.
Love the look of matching the porch colour to the doors, and the darker color would show less dirt too. Nothing worse than an obvious muddy trail between the door and the driveway!
Many porches are gray for a reason. Dark colors can get hot in the summer. Both dark and light show tracked on dirt more than gray. And you are righr Abby, cracks in the foor let dirt sift through but you dont wsnt them big enough for keys to sift through! 😊
Good job with your singing at the horse pulling event, I think Bill and Baron loved hearing you call out their names. Good job with the house too have a great week.
The porch looks awesome Abby….very well done. You can tell Jay is old school….hard work don’t bother him. Young people should take notes. Take care guys!
Everything looks so good. I think matching the porch floor with the door would look amazing. Either that or a darker medium shade. I can't wait for the porch to be done. When that's done the curb appeal will be so awesome and you will have a lot more space to decorate. You and Jay make a great great team . God Bless you and your crew.❤🙏🏡
Whatever is in the picture you put up is just gorgeous! It looks like it's the same color as the door but a medium shade rather than dark. I love the generous width of the porch and the way it broadens out at the driveway end for a table or a seating group. Your porch is going to be such a wonderful place to hang out. I love it!!! A beadboard ceiling would finish it off so beautifully.
Yeah ! This house is going to pop big time. You have great taste in every thing your doing to this Dream Home ! LOVE the porch and can't wait to see the finished product . Medium color show less dirt and let the doors pop , with the white post it will add beautiful contrast . 💥💫💖
Hi Abby! I like the idea of a stain that is inbetween the light and the dark. FYI, if you are putting in a ceiling for your porch, in the olden days they were always painted pale blue to keep the wasps and birds away....someone told me about it and I tried it and it not only looks good but works! Birds are fabulous and wasps are needed, but we don't want them to nest on our porch:)!
Abby it looks great. It's coming together so quickly. Great job. Jay is so talented and a God scent. May God bless him abundantly for all of his labor of love.
I like the in-between color. It draws the darker door and the white house together nicely. The dark floor would show the dust and dirt more than a lighter color.
The porch looks amazing. One thought is if you paint the skirting around the bottom of the porch white it will always look dirty and/or muddy. Maybe make that part and the porch the color on your inspo and columns still white. That would look nice. Something to consider. Great job Team Abby! (and Skippy)
Abby, your choice is what will make you happy, great work all the way around, as a young girl I always wanted to build and design my own home, make it yours and stay strong , Great Job you and Jay and nice to have family over for a treat. God Bless
Your house is coming along wonderfully! You always make great choices in the end. I love the look of the floor in the photo which would really nice with the door but not match. The door stain is just a little too dark for the floor - in my opinion. I also like the suggestion that you keep the porch open and not do railings. Usually railings are put on when they are needed to stop a fall. With a porch floor just a bit above ground level there's no need. I think it's nice not to be penned in by a railing and you could come and go off the porch in a few places. Again, the photo had a great look! It was nice and open and the floor color was just right!
I learned the hard way that life is easier with a stain that is closest to the color of the dirt around my porch. So when it's muddy, I can just sweep it when it's dry
I really like the color of the newer boards too. I believe a light sanding on the older boards would work. Then they can weather naturally until you decide.
Sharon here.... Im loving the porch ! My choice would be something in between the door and the floor color now. I think it wouldn't show dirt as much. Enjoy seeing you and Jay working together, Bless his heart and much appreciation to your dad for cutting and planeing the wood for all your house projects! And mom and sister for their help as well. 👍☺❤
The door colour on the floor against the white posts will look stunning, it will help if you have muddy boots to hide marks as a light colour will show everything but this is just my opinion. But the house is starting to look amazing, cant wait for the finished reveal as you certainly had great vision and help from Jay x
Abby, You and Jay did a beautiful job on the front porch. Your definitely " A Chip off the Old Block " from your wonderful parents Jim and Brenda Gordon . With your strong work ethic and energy level.
That lumber is beautiful, and the darker you stain it, the more subdued the wonderful grain pattern will become. For that reason, I would go natural (even polyurethane will darken it a little) or more light stain as opposed to dark stain, Keep in mind, although the doors are stunning the color they are, when you look at them you are looking at a vertical flat surface, so the beautiful grain shows through the dark stain. That's just the way light works. The floor, however, is of course a horizontal flat surface, and therefore would look almost "painted" if you stain it too dark. I would take as many cut-off pieces as you have to make a 2 foot wide section of floor, and stain it with various colors, then just lay it on top of the porch floor and let it sit there a week, and see which looks best to you. I love porches! Americana at it's best.
Match the floor to the door. You dont need too many colors going on. As for the boards along the skirt....as long as there is dirt there the rain will keep splashing mud up on it even once you paint it white. Maybe put a gravel or stone rim around the face of the skirting. I am loving what you are doing with the house. It is wonderful to see it reborn!
Nice to see all the porch wood is finally down, it looks great! I think a medium color stain on the floor would look wonderful. By the way the fan on the porch ceiling is a very cool idea.
It’s gorgeous! Nice work Jay! He made me laugh when he made the joke about snakes not being able to come up,through the floor! 😂 I personally would do an in between color stain for the floor! The photo you shared is so pretty!
Yes door and porch floor same color.
agreed
Agree ❤
Definitely
Yes door and porch same color! ❤️❤️
Poor Jay! He looks so hot. He sure doesn't need to lose any weight, either! Srooping at that angle is extremely hard on older people. Perhaps Jay should get some help with the stooping in that heat.
Me too!
Like most people here...I vote for matching the door. Brilliant job on the porch!
I vote for the porch floor being the same color as the doors.
Yes! Match your door
The porch is so very nice. I like the color the same as the door. Jay really was overheated. Be careful in this extreme heat. 💕💕💕💕
Poor ol' Jay's sweating up a storm with all that hot weather you're experiencing !!
I think the porch would look better dark like the doors as there will be more contrast between the white and dark. Yes Jay was sweating bless him.❤❤❤
dark shows dust and mud, light shows everything. the in between as you showed in pic is perfect!
Yes stain a dark color so dirt doesn't show so much, especially with a dog.
I think having the porch the same color as the door would be stunning against the white columns and house. Plus I think the darker stain will hide dirt better.
Door and porch floor matching....will make the white rails/posts really pop!
I think you should do your floor in a rich color, like pictured or matching your door. It would be gorgeous! The house is coming along nicely! 😊
Porch and floor the same color would be awesome. Love your house ❤
Rain gutters will help with that mud ❤
And if you match the porch wood to the door stain it'll be perfect (chef kiss*)
I definitely agree with gutters and matching the floor with the doors.
L-O-V-E your front porch! And I vote for the door and porch to be the same color.
The porch is going to bring you years of enjoyment. Brought to you by the two men in your life, Dad and Jay.😊
Don’t paint the porch White or any light stain, because after a year you will see a dark path where you walk. Being a dark path to your doorway. Yes, “Jay” ! Sorry Jay !
the second picture of a porch at the end was beautiful. no railing. let ppl see the whole house from the street.
@amycohen1098 would definitely open the the view to the house. When we built our house we left the porch open. Glad we did.
I am enjoying this transformation so much! The porch looks so good and I agree, match that gorgeous door. Loved seeing your family all sitting around on the porch together and am sure there will be many happy memories made in that wonderful space. ❤

BILL AND KEN HAVE BEEN HELPFUL DELIVERING FAMILY MILLED LUMBER
I think dark one would look better with the house being white and your doors are dark. Dark would look amazing! 😮😮😊😊😊😊
Definitely stain the porch floor to match the doors. Will be very nice contrast with the white siding and posts. 😊😊😊
Abby did awesome singing of National Anthem and M.C.the horse pull at Governour.
Bill and Baron were the grand prize winners 🏆 😊
Yes she did! She has such perfect pitch. Way to pull that load Barry and Billy! (Her mom Brenda’s name for the horses). They worked so hard. It’s a gold medal family all around. ❤
I think the the dark wood would compliment the doors. You have a lot of white going on so dark would look gorgeous
I think the door and floor needs to match. I wish you would reconsider the railings. I think it would look nice just open and inviting.
I would definitely go dark to match the doors 🙂 love your videos, can't wait to see it all finished.
Yes, the porch floor should match it would be beautiful with a white house

If you’re going to paint that bottom part, put down some stone or something because the dirt will just dirty them up. From experience ❤️
I like the idea of the door and the porch being the same color. It will look more inviting, and have an even flow about it. Great job everyone! I hope that Jay was able to cool down after that really hot day.😊

I vote for the floor to match the door. It will make your white trim and rails really pop!
With the house being white and the entry door a dark stain, I would stain the porch floor to match the door. ❤❤❤
Yes door and porch should be the same color!! It will be stunning!! Your house is looking marvelous Abbey!!!
Many porches are gray for a reason.

Same color for door and porch. The decking turned out so well. Your little slice of heaven looks great.
Sandals 😮
Keep the porch and the door the same color. It will look so beautiful!!
I think the porch floor should match the outside doors. It’ll look uniform and beautiful!
Floor same as the door has my vote!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Whatever is in the picture you put up is just gorgeous! It looks like it's the same color as the door but a medium shade rather than dark. You should make the floors dark. With the white would be stunning
I vote door and porch be the same color. Looking great!!🌻💛🌻
I vote for an in between color! It’s just gorgeous!
I think having the doors and porch dark will look really good against the white railings.
I think the door and floor the same would look great, especially with the white rail and post.
Yeah ! This house is going to pop big time. You have great taste in every thing your doing to this Dream Home ! LOVE the porch and can't wait to see the finished product . Medium color show less dirt and let the doors pop , with the white post it will add beautiful contrast . 💥💫💖

Looks fantastic ! How great to baptize it with a family pizza party. A front porch is the welcome to a home. You must be excited. ❤
Such a great job and loved the video 😘👍🏻💕💕🙏🏻🙏🏻
Abby it looks great. It's coming together so quickly. Great job. Jay is so talented and a God scent. May God bless him abundantly for all of his labor of love.
Looks so good
Note to self " keep various bits in your pocket" like Jay👍
Definitely match the porch floor to the doors! Fans on the porch also help keep the mosquitos & flies away!
I like the in-between color. It draws the darker door and the white house together nicely. The dark floor would show the dust and dirt more than a lighter color.
Abby, I think the darker color of the doors, will make it look more cohesive.
In my opinion, it will also look beautiful with the white posts ❤
Your porch is beautiful! In my opinion, it will be perfect if the floor was stained the color of the front and side doors. Enjoy!
Beautiful!!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I like the 2nd inspo picture, that would look fantastic. I also love the ceiling as it is
I love the photo you said how you wanted it to be. Lovely Abby. Hope Jay had a nice vacation. Hello Brenda, Jim, Isaac and James.
Abby porch is looking lovely,I would go for the picture colour you showed us.🌺🌺
The porch looks amazing. One thought is if you paint the skirting around the bottom of the porch white it will always look dirty and/or muddy. Your Dad is amazing. The porch looks great!
PG here, Wow, what a huge project to get finished! So, exciting.
I think dark stain on the boards would be a nice contrast to your white posts.
Abby, your choice is what will make you happy, great work all the way around, as a young girl I always wanted to build and design my own home, make it yours and stay strong , Great Job you and Jay and nice to have family over for a treat. God Bless
Construction flip flops. 8-)
I vote for the dark porch floor.

I agree with the others, the door and porch the same color. You’ve done an amazing job with your home. I hope you are really proud of yourself!

Yes, door and porch floor matching.
Your rebuild so exciting. So happy for you, don,t forget without family it is just a house.. I am now alone , family makes it a home..
I vote for the floor matching the doors. Beautiful job Jay and Abby. And Jim!
I like the doors and porch floor the same color with white posts it will be beautiful.

Abby, You and Jay did a beautiful job on the front porch. Your definitely " A Chip off the Old Block " from your wonderful parents Jim and Brenda Gordon . With your strong work ethic and energy level.
The Porch looks awesome.
I like the wood that’s on there now as it’s neutral. You all are amazing.

The dark floors will always look dirty, especially near a gravel road. Always looking forward to see your progress. Thanks.
It’s gorgeous! Nice work Jay! He made me laugh when he made the joke about snakes not being able to come up,through the floor! 😂
I personally would do an in between color stain for the floor! The photo you shared is so pretty!
I agree. Match the floors to the door. I LOVE watching your videos ❤ good job guys!!!
I like the idea of a color in between the door and the current light wood color.
