Somewhere beyond the veil, Erik Satie is smiling.
Beyond the edge of the world there’s a space where emptiness and substance neatly overlap, where past and future form a continuous, endless loop. And, hovering about, there are signs no one has ever read, chords no one has ever heard.
They are both there . With Paganini

@@datoiremadze9914 absolutely Veronica, another pint?
@Braylon Brennan every time I see this piece of crap you are plastering all over you tube I'm going to report it
Unlike half the pianists that have done this on RUclips these guys actually got the actual tempo right. Subdued, mysterious, LENTO. And the violin improv totally got be by surprise!
When there is music like this there is hope.
@@ericolens3 fuck off
@@fredlyr1 he really did😂
everybody likes violin but for me accordion is also masterpeace.
piece
I did not realize the accordion could be so versatile.
Anything can be
This is the best version of Gnossienne No 1 in my mind, so haunting. It plays on my heart strings, makes me long for the country of my ancestors.
For me this music evokes an emotion that I cannot define. Not happy, not sad, not fear, not anger, not desolate. Some eerie type of formless emotion that is neither positive or negative that I don't want to stop listening. An emotion from another dimension that lurks deep inside the gray universe inside my skull.
I found this Gnosienne: a moment of awareness that someone you’ve known for years still has a private and mysterious inner life, and somewhere in the hallways of their personality is a door locked from the inside, a stairway leading to a wing of the house that you’ve never fully explored-an unfinished attic that will remain maddeningly unknowable to you, because ultimately neither of you has a map, or a master key, or any way of knowing exactly where you stand.
@Dio Brando no dude. chillin is a happy feeling. I know what is chillin'. For me the more chilly I eat the more chillin' I get.
@@jeetray11 stillness... it's like it came straight out of the void of nothingness.
Jeet...what a coincidence... i feel exactly that emotion that cannot be defined...
Regret
This arrangement has a strong Gypsy feel to it. I can almost hear Nicolae Neacsu singing in the background.
Its no wonder Tod likes it.
I was going with eastern Europe, but gypsy works too. I see tango dancers with this version.
klezmer maybe
Then find it in Buenos Aires where the tango is so perfectly performed in awesome tango shows, or even on the streets for extra money to feed a family.
Да... а мне слышны еврейские мотивы
I love the violinist, he's so calm and does his job masterfully in this piece.
One of my favourite performances online. I’ve watched this countless times. The arrangement is so interesting and it’s great to see how the accordionist partners with the violinist. Just a great master class in chamber music. Thank-you.
the violin 1:11 brought my tear, this is so beautiful
Despite all the controversy .. I don't think I could ever hate RUclips because it keeps hooking me up with the most amazing music. Bravo!
This is for those Saturday or Sunday afternoons when the temperature is just right and through the open windows you sit and feel the breeze and fall into remembrance of your life. Those moments when time seems to stand still, even as the shadows lengthen and move across your vision. People and experiences that cannot ever be recovered and yet feel so palpable in those moments. A trance. A surreal experience!
Satie is a great Alchemist of the soul , and his music is a magnificent elixir of the mind
This simple and graceful music is off the charts
1:21 this part absolutely sends shivers down my spine. It is so beautiful, look at the little twitch of emotion on his face, the violin sounds like it is telling me a story
Collect everything, close the houses and let's go from the Earth, there is nothing else to listen to here, THIS IS THE MAXIMUM !!!!.
Satie's genius is that he wrote timeless classics that can be arranged in so many different ways. This arrangement is a gem!
I have touched nirvana.
This is an absolutely phenomenal rendition of this piece.
What I have always imagined myself hearing walking through Verona, Italy during the turn of the century.
Thank you !
I'm from Sarajevo and Gnosienne 1 always reminds me of having a slow, late afternoon coffee at one of the points overlooking Sarajevo and contemplating life, because it sounds as if that's excactly what Eric was doing when he composed it. This version I hear now for the first time and it just reinforced that feeling :)
+amir071 I was there and yes I can hear this while sipping coffee and the smell of cevapi na raznju. This is Heaven.
amir071 I'm from Croatia so it is quite relatable , pozdrav!

All of you must come to Mexico so we can drink a coffee together while looking the sunset :P
Wow, just wow! A mind-blowing interpretation of Satie's masterpiece. A highly evocative and reverential performance!
This is how to make a masterpiece become another (different) masterpiece
I never before knew this music, Erik Satie, Seth Ford-Young, any of it. It came one afternoon to me as "random" pick via Pandora. I was totally unprepared for what moved thru me, upon listening to this melody and then surrendering to it. I wept so deeply and fully. It was all at once disturbing and true InJoyment. A story was unfolding within me. This music fused with and has become a part of me. I Love this Life experience soooo much! The Sentient Body that I Am Thanks you so much Porto Franco for posting this!❤❤❤
FANTASTIC! Loved the "arabic fiddle" work. I think it really builds on the themes of the song.
What Seth Ford-Young did was to creatively blow a new life on an already celebrated masterpiece. His rendition is sets the reincarnation of Satie's beautifully testament of mystery and caprice, in the hands of apt, free and passionate gypsies travelling through the French fields to borrowing inescapably personal accordion.
All the solos flow freely over the ever faithful pillars of the syncopated guitars strung peacefully, smiling on its adopted children dancing, running within the harmonic structure its sets or simply follows.
Beautiful! Thank you for this gift Seth
The accordion is a much maligned instrument...for good reason.
I thought about writing something, then...
@@deenibeeniable lol
deenibeeniable It added a really cool touch to this piece though, I have to admit
Clearly you people haven’t listened to enough accordion music. People are unaware that the accordion can play the most beautiful pieces in the baroque and classical repertoire. Making a mockery of the instrument comes from the view that it is a cheesy instrument. There are many gifted players around the world who play classical repertoire. The accordion isnt all polkas and Lawrence Welk tunes. It can all be seen on you tube.
I feel a hundred years of loneliness
My soul will be wandering in Paris to spread infinitely in my mind
was very skeptical about this, since the whole point of Satie is his minimalism and this piece is all about that. But having heard this, its amazing and very emotive. hope to hear more from these guys. very nice piece. play it in the car on the way to work and think about happier times.
Had the same "prejudice." Glad to be proven wrong!
@@thegeniusfool: It makes you wonder what Perlman could do with it.
Or even better, make newer happy times!
I found the violin out of place at times.
I love Gnossienne and how diffent musicians play it on so many different instruments. This version is quite unique with its unusual tango like interpretation. Brilliant.
i can replay this one million times and not get tired 😍
Christina Lion But there's so many other amazing pieces played by them that are just as beautiful.
spikeshroom this is my favorite because the original song is one of my favorites lol
Christina Lion Same here.
spikeshroom reading your comment, an excuse to listen to it again 😍😍😍😍
agree
I think this master piece from Satie, is showing how our regular, daily lives, shaping us in a way of pity. I can see my and every other person's life in pity, monotone and in black-white. Doing the same things all over again. This version just adds more kick to it. Brilliant.
I have listened this to music so many times ,every time it takes my soul far away sometimes ı can not find myself with the music rhythm.
I am always stunned by this version of a stunning piece of art. These guys are just incredible. How to evoque the silence, the gravity, the shift between the violin and the accordion. Mesmerizing. I cry a little each time.
the violin really pushes this over the top
Utterly beautiful;filled with a deep joy yet an ache for a all that is lost.

I can keep listening to this beautiful music over and over again
I can't even put this music into words.. It goes right to the heart ...Thank you ..:))
I think the violin is the most expressive instrument out there. It's so versatile. The ensemble ere is great.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.
To me this feels like the definition of life, the ebbs and flows. Neither happy nor sad, just as it is. My favourite piece.
lonely freedom in early November morning then, a cup of tea and a thought for music... surprise!

Just went I think I've heard the most captivating rendition of this piece, along comes another to keep it company, all with their own special flavor and intrigue.
It took RUclips algorithm 12 years to find this for me, but it may be my favorite recommendation, period. This is _fantastic_
LOVE this rendition. It just strikes home with me!
WOW, A VERY GOOD INTERPRAETATION OF THE FIRST GNOSSIENE TUNE. ALL THOSE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS REALLY DO IT JUSTICE, ESPECIALLY THE VIOLIN. GREAT JOB!
L’accordéon est bouleversant !
Vive la France !
I always come back to watch this.
It has been years now since i first discovered this marvelous performance. And I watch and listen to it at least once every month. It transports me to a world i wish i could live in forever. thank you for this beautiful gift.
Soothing and very melancholy..... sensational!
I can't help but listen to each version I come across, the music is genius.
Thank you!!! You amazing musicians just feed my very soul. Was exquisite....fantastic...
Love this rendition. It reminds me of the Buena Vista Social Club. It kind of has that Cuban vibe.
ah love the gypsy feel to one of my favorite classical pieces! Thank you!
Love the "Jam" on this. It sounds so perfectly perfect.
Sublime orchestration qui renforce l'orientalisme de la mélodie et confère à cette musique une présence décorative et une musicalité expressive, qui sont moins sensibles dans la version pour piano.
Such a mystical version!💛
Oh my this is wonderful. How I would Love to experience this in person!
This rendition really carries me away, absolutely beautiful...
What a beautiful interpretation... ❤❤❤
Sooo cool, I've never heard music like this, where have I been hiding, yes. You guys are great, I loved every second. Gonna get my violin out again, I've been learning this on classical guitar and stumbled on this vid, it's on my likes list forever now. Thanks for sharing your talent to the world.
Its nice to feel anything other than stress and want for social advancement.
Satie is an icon of melancholy the acceptance of negativety
very nicely put....
Just wonderful!
I love a work of art !!! :3
First time listening to this version... and, wow, it's formidable.
quel honneur à la musique de Satie, super adaptation. Félicitations
Wonderfully played on the violin! I hate playing my violin sitting down, I just feel so constricted and I cant fully express myself, I end up standing up :p
Axia Johnson yes! the power comes from the legs when we play!!!
wow!! amazing and very cool impros... preserves the essence of the original piece. I love the timbrical mixture of the ensemble.... congratulations!
Sooooo enchanting 😍😍😍 !!!!
How beautiful.
Masterpiece work, congratulations!
Outstanding performance
Have Seth's album -- wonderful. Love Satie, and it is so amazing to see this piece performed live. It's a composition that already defines a distinctive sense of space -- but these musicians really occupy that space and make it something special. Thank you.
incredible!!!! it's like a mixture (a fine one indeed) between Satie, Piazzolla and old tango!!!!! Congratulations from Argentina!
Achingly rare and beautiful sounds
What a beautiful interpretation
This the sexiest, most beautiful rendition of Satie's Gnossienne No.1 ever! Please come to Austin Texas and play for us... this is perfection! Thank you!
I do not know why. The music of Erik Satie, takes me on a journey. My soul, my spirit they all disappear.
I experience the most diverse feelings. This brilliant, wonderful music goes into the deepest parts of my heart, my soul.
I have never experienced that a piece of music touches me so much in my heart that it always moves me to tears.
No matter how many times I have heard it.
The music is not of this world.
Dear Erik Satie, Wherever you may be now, know that you have left a great gift to us humans.
I imagine that you enjoy watching us enjoy your music.
Thank you for your beautiful gift.
this just goes right to the heart
the violin is so unreal, wonderful!
wow, best version i've come across yet. oddly found it while searching youtube for Satie's Nocturnes for piano and violin
Absolutely perfect and amazing!!!!
Incredible performance!
I would like to hear Evan Price, Ludovic Beier and Angelo DeBarre playing together. That would be the perfect combination!!!
so soothing, so pure
Absolutely enchanting.
I was thrown out of violin class at age 11 "because I played like a cowboy". Almost 60 years later I realise I should have persevered.
Balsabasher Nothing better than hearing a violin played by a 71 year old cowboy!😆
Oh my... this is Wonderful. Never stop being you. Its people like you we need to turn this world around.
This sounds so awesome in many ways! Wonderful musicians!
Hauntingly, mesmerisingly, beautiful... an incredible arrangement... wow!

fabulous rendition ... BRAVO :o)
Beautiful!
Superb performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Violin is awesome! :-)
Thanks very much.
A very interesting rendition of a magnificent piece of music. Masterfully performed. Not sure weather Satie would appreciate but being French, he probably would have.
Because only the french are able to appreciate a homage to their work?
