Dallas-based artist capshun is ascending from the underground and taking over the industry. More than just a producer and DJ, capshun crafts sonic worlds that fuse exotic soundscapes, lush textures, hard-hitting drums and evocative elements. Defying genre confines, his sound mixes elements of trap, future bass, hip-hop, world music, DnB, and future beats. Born and raised in Texas, he grew up surrounded by music. His father was a DJ, providing a strong foundation for his musical journey. Originally creating hip hop and R&B in high school, his attention shifted to the electronic world after being inspired by Mr. Carmack, whereisalex, and Sean Dream.
After spending a few years refining his sound and making waves on SoundCloud, 2018 proved to be a breakout year. ‘Lotus’ and ‘Here’ showcased his immense talent; perfectly balancing beautiful melodic elements with a menacing trap backbone. Taking his career to new heights came ‘Vibe’ featuring Avae, a dreamy pop-leaning bop that has accumulated over 800,000 plays on Spotify.
Teaming up with fellow rising star Quiet Bison, the two kicked off 2020 with the epic single ‘Acai Tower’ on Quality Goods Records. The track has amassed over 550,000 plays on Spotify and set the bar for his impressive debut EP OKAMI. Born out of his love for Southeast Asian culture, the six song effort took listeners on an epic journey. capshun also connected with Colson XL for the monster banger ‘Watch Me,’ which landed on RL Grime’s Sable Valley Summer Comp Vol. 1. Building upon this momentum capshun made his Los Angeles debut with the legendary Brownies & Lemonade team.
With each passing year, capshun’s star continues to shine brighter. Consistent releases and a dedicated fan base have helped the artist attain over 100,000 monthly streams on Spotify. Last year he played his first-ever sold-out headlining show in Denver and dropped sets at Deadbeats, DEF, and Electric Zoo. He has also supported legendary artists like Griz, Zeds Dead, and Of The Trees.
Capping off 2022 with a bang, capshun released his impeccable sophomore EP Logos on Trap Nation’s broke. imprint. The eight-track offering spans an array of genres while showcasing an evolution in his signature sound. The project’s standout ‘Fallen’ saw capshun teaming up with Juelz for an energetic banger that’s already gained nearly 300,000 streams on Spotify. In addition to the EP, capshun made his debut on Deadbeats with the powerful original ‘Lost’ on We Are Deadbeats Vol. 5. The track expertly blurs the lines between engrossing and hard-hitting in a way that only capshun can.
capshun is one of the hottest new talents out right now. His genre-defying sound has gained support from big name artists including What So Not, Boombox Cartel, The Chainsmokers, Alexander Lewis, San Holo, UZ, and notice from platforms like Sable Valley, Quality Goods Records, Insomniac, Deadbeats and Heroic. 2023 is shaping up to be his biggest year yet.
