    These salads are very unusual and contain Burmese ingredients that are not typical in Western salads. Dried shrimp, chick pea flour, fried onion and garlic, fish sauce, cilantro, sesame seeds, green onions, variety of fried lentils and peanuts are some additions. The most unique item is laphet, fermented young tea leaves only made in Burma. These salads are simple to make and have very little oil or anything artificial or chemical.

      Glad to hear from you. Miss your company and hope you are doing well. What book are you writing. Miss the Burmese food. The meal at the restaurant before I left was marvelous. Never had many dishes. Wish I knew some Burmese people who are willing to share with me. Take care.

    They sell palm sugar in a jar that is more syrupy and easier to use. I hope you can find some.

      That's ok. I ground it upon my Blendtec. Easy to use now.

      I bought a large jar of palm sugar from Cambodia, but eventually it gets hard so I have to carefully dig it out.

    Please suggest some alternative for dried shrimps and fish sauce for pure vegetarians like us.

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  Год назад

      Just omit the shrimps and use salt instead.

      I think vegetarian oyster sauce made from mushroom stalks makes a perfect substitute for dried shrimps n other seafood. Easily available in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong n Taiwan. In Malaysia n Singapore,vegetarian prawn noodles n sweet n sour fish make use of vegetarian oyster sauce.But i don't know whether it goes along with the fermented tea leaves for i myself have never tasted this dish. What i mean is in Malaysian n Singaporean vegetarian dishes ,whenever seafood taste is required, vegetarian oyster sauce or a type of blackish dried seafood is used.

      These are specialty salads. I make them every so often. Unfortunately, my family is not so keen about them.
