  • There's a lot of great family games out there that I've discussed, but particularly with the holidays in these few months past and current, let's look at some great adorable games! As always, my phrase of the day is "I don't really pay attention to looks"!
Family time is really important always, but everyone gets extra sappy about it around the holidays. As such, let's take a look at some games that are not only great and fun to play with the family, but would probably fit a typical definition of "cute". Obviously YMMV :D
As always, please share your thoughts on my picks as well as what your own would be/are! It's an adorable time of year for adorable games!

I think we have to agree to disagree :D . All the cats I've known in my life have been jerks. Maybe just smug. I'd never take it out on a great little game, though!

My pick would be Creature Comforts. Cute but also a very good game for both younger and older players. And incidentally the follow up, Maple Walley is now on Kickstarter.

Oooo that's a good one as well. I think I had creature comforts on one of my upcoming games videos awhile back. Very adorable indeed. Still haven't gotten much chance to play, but glad to hear it's getting more!

From the very start of your intro but especially after realising what sort you were wearing, I was quite sure you'd mention Unstable Unicorns or Here to Slay. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them.
I think the games are quite well made, but the way they do their Kickstarters is just awful for me.

Ha! I can't be that obvious :P . While I have Unstable Unicorns and..... one about Llamas that I don't remember the name for, I'm not the biggest fan of that style of party game, even for something like this. Exploding kittens and ilk would fall into the same category for me, as well. For sure, the art is pretty adorable, but just not enough gaming meet for me personally.
Also have to say that I've not dealt with the KS issues, thankfully.

Llamas Unleashed, I don't have that one. I got Here to Slay off Kickstarter.
The normal Unstable Unicorns is quite shallow, but UU: Control and Chaos are rather interesting strategy games.
The issues were nothing like bad communication, overblown claims or troubles with fulfillment. All of that was handled really professionally. What irked me was their overreliance on FOMO. How does it benefit me that lots of stuff is KS exclusive? I want everyone to have the best possible version of the game. It's okay, albeit still a bit annoying, as long as it's only about neoprene mats and functionless acrylic standees. But when expansion material like new unique cards gets locked behind insanely expensive KS tiers, I can't accept it. Either the game is better with that stuff, then put it in; or it isn't, then leave it out. Control & Chaos and Here to Slay are fine intermediate games, for folks who like cute artwork, but I'll refrain from ever buying another one of their games, as long as this KS FOMO madness continues.

Yes that's the one! The whole company has that adorable aesthetic going, but the games just don't have the depth for me personally. It sounds odd for something meant to focus on said adorableness, but still.
And indeed the KS FOMO is so very real and absolutely horrible to see. I can't stand it when companies do that. Convention promos and the like I can understand and get behind, but KS-exclusive upgrades, functional items, etc., drive me up the wall. It makes me feel that I fundamentally got less game if I end up buying at retail instead.
