  • Been wanting to post this for a while, so here we go! This video contains phone shots I got with the Amtrak California Zephyr at a few different locations throughout the month of September 2024. A few observations of the train are found in the usual East Bay cities I've been to, while two others are in Colfax during Colfax Railroad Days. Got some very cool highlights with these ones featuring AMTK 187 - one of the former Big Game engines repainted into Phase VII, a Polar Express logo on the Westbound Number 5 in Colfax plus some amazing 90's and 2000's Narrow Font K5LA sounds from P42DC's 51 and 204. Enjoy!

    Martinez, California - September 2nd, 2024
It was chaos on the San Joaquins this day because BNSF had a chlorine spillage in Antioch causing severe delays for passengers travelling between the East Bay and Central Valley, and there were even two medical emergencies at this station. Even with the disruption, I triumphantly managed to get through it and see 187 on the Westbound California Zephyr. I did film other trains this day, but because I had a problem with the storage on my computer, I deleted those files from my camera by mistake. CDTX 2123 is also shot here leading Capitol Corridor train 737 as we pulled in.

We were going out to get Zachary's in Pleasant Hill this morning we had family visiting from the UK, and to my surprise when I thought 192 and 140 were going to lead this train, it turned out to be 204 instead with a wonderful sounding Narrow Font K5LA giving vibes of nostalgia from the 90's on Amtrak.

    Colfax, California - September 15th, 2024
Colfax Railroad Days was taking place this weekend, and we managed to get 187 leading the train yet again going back east. The crowds were big and it was guaranteed that people would run onto the rails, but not a lot of freight traffic popped up despite seeing an autorack train as we were coming into town, and a grain train after the Westbound California Zephyr left. For a surprise, the baggage car on the Westbound Zephyr had the Polar Express logo which is something you don't see every day on Amtrak, even when it's not around Christmas time yet. 134 also had a great sounding 90's Narrow Font K5LA but couldn't film the horn sound in time when the train was ready to leave.

    Berkeley, California - September 29th, 2024
This was filmed later in the afternoon whilst railfanning at Berkeley after I took Caltrain's new Stadler KISS EMU to Santa Clara, where I also shot trains that morning including an observation of a 49ers Special ran by ACE for a game at Levi Stadium this day against New England Patriots. 51 leads the train off with a grand sounding 2000's Narrow Font horn. It might not be the nostalgic sound from the 90's but it beats the Raised Letter sounds we experience to this day!
