I absolutely love being transported into Gino Vannelli's Musical World, everytime I listen to his songs. Every note that he sings is instantaneous and soulful. This live performance of B to B, one of his many masterpieces, touches my whole being, to the core. The Wall of sound that I hear in this song, towards the end transports me to another (Higher level) dimension, as it were, of pure excitement, joy and bliss. I have to give mention to his powerful conducting, beautiful, delicious, magical vocals , beautiful look's, stage presence, and unique authentic, dance moves sends me over the moon! I did not experience Gino's musical genius until about 7 years ago. During the late 70's , I was pursuing my own music career in Roma, Milan, and other European countries. I never get tired of what I call, The Gino Vannelli Experience. For me, this, Man/Muscian, vocalist, song writer, is a pure musical, magical, master of his craft, and again , pure genius! The complete "package," as they say. Thete is no one like him on Planet 🌎 Earth. I just love ❣️ Gino Vannelli!
Mark Craney was so talented... So many things occurs when he plays, he creates a unique feel with his visceral non-academic drumming pulse, Pure Magic... One of the only musician that makes me feel something really deep and connected with a "From Beyond" Vibration
Mark Craney was a friend and bandmate of mine. He was an incredible Drummer. He was such a generous man. One of a kind. His drumming is required study and listening. He worked at any level. I miss him so much. My story about Mark is. When we setting up or at soundcheck he would play around playing different grooves and he would mess up timing and make clams all over the place. I knew he was diabetic so I would ask him are you alright? If you knew him he had a deadpan sense of humor. He just ignored me. So again one time I asked if he was alright and he stopped playing looked me in the eye and said I don't turn on until we have to hit or the tapes Rollin. And it was true! When it counted he smiled and turned into a different animal. Quite probably one of the best Drummer's that ever lived! RIP Marcus Orealies
Great story, Stevie! Intentionally making clams and playing messed up timing. That sounds like Mark. I totally believe he would say that. He was so underrated and never received the accolades he deserved. He played so confidently and smooth, making the complicated seem a piece of cake. I never got the chance to see him play live, unfortunately. I regret that. What else can you share about Mark?
The Swiss drummer that died young was also a hell of musician. Gino has always surrounded himself with great talent.. Didn't Michael Shrieve play a short stint with Gino?
Totally agree with you...one of the most underrated drummers, I am so thankfull he left his art for us to enjoy and never forget him🙏🏼☮🙏🏼 R.I.P. ( Rock-On In Peace) 🥁
I grew up around music in our home everything from gospel music to the Beatles, Elvis, Elton John, Aerosmith and all the Motown sound, in 1979 i was 16 and i knew what types of music i liked, my cousin had "Pauper in Paradise" and "Brother to brother" and i wore those two records out, man i love Gino Vanelli's music my cousin is gone now he passed away back in 2018, i always think if him when i play Gino's music, it's wonderful & beautiful how music can make the movies of your life replay in your soul and you can re-live what used to be, good music touches your soul in a good way....... Thank you Gino and all those who made his sound unique and timeless.....
+zerodefectmachine The best ones always look like they are just sitting there-Craney was one of the true legends of drumming an absolute freaking beast-very sadly missed
As far as I'm concerned Gino Vannelli is the best male soloist ever. I live in New Orleans and I've seen him many times. He use to come here every few months to perform, he use to call New Orleans his second home. One Mardi Gras back in the 1970's he was the Grandmarshall of the Endymon parade, one of his songs on the "Pauper in Paradise" album was about riding in that parade. He may not move around on the stage like he did back then, but he's still one hell of a performer !!!! Gino #1 forever !!!!
This song is one of my favorites of GINO VANNELLI...Gino is not only a talented singer, but a highly talented performer ...BRAVO GINO....Thanks....Giorgio Messina....
Mark Craney was one of the best drummers ever such timing and fluid playing-very missed and very underrated(1952-2005)-you will always be missed by the fans who really understand how great of a drummer you were-I judge people by their answers of their ten favorite drummers ever and if Mark isn't one of them then I really question that persons knowledge of music-Mark was an absolute beast behind that kit- you are truly a legend
wow 79steely i totally agree with you!!! He wasn't mentioned in Mojo's top ten best drummers....on the other hand neither was Michael Shrieve (Santana - Woodstock 1969, Tanglewood 1970, drum solo in 'Soul Sacrifice). RIP Mark, your talent and musical contribution lives on....
Missed yes...But never under-rated. Mark was amazing and any drummer that knew of him knew how amazing he was...During his time a lot of great drummers were coming into their own. Vinnie, Jonathan, Weckl, JR, and so many others were already into Mark....Never under-rated...
El gran Gino, con su voz maravillosa, su atractiva presencia y un talento desbordante. Un saludo a todos los admiradores de este señorón del espectáculo. 👍🏿❤️🇲🇽
There's no doubt ...it's masterpiece! Amazing performance! Great musicians and obviously...Gino! A special tribute to the great drummer Mark Craney - r.i.p.
Lucky enough to have seen Vanelli in the UK in the 90's when he made a rare trip to London. The man's a legend (and with respect) - I don't think non-musicians can fully appreciate his talent.
Yeah but according to youtubers, whoever the current drummer has been on this amazing song, THEY are the greatest of all time! Just look at live performances after Mark passed away. He's never mentioned. That's to be expected. Generally people on youtube know about as much as what transpired in the past 48 hours. For those of us who grew up listening to Gino, Mark was always a tremendously powerful part of that whole unique sound.
I hand never heard of Gino Vannelli till I had the privilege of playing bass in the studio with the great drummer Mark Craney. My intuitive skill level shot up while warming up with him before we recorded. What an inspiration.
Wanna be drummers will appreciate....this guy was top notch. Strange, I never see Craney's name on any top ten list! He should be there. Fantastic drumming on this song.
Had he lived longer, he would be in the top ten. So young and so talented - Gino ban was top notch and Gino let him run with it throughout the whole album.
+hammersondrumz Mark Craney was an absolute beast on the skins man you are totally correct-I wish more people understood how freaking awesome MC was-a drumming god to me!!
Best tour and show I've ever seen. It was also my first time hearing Daryl Steurmer, who became the lead guitarist in Genesis's touring band for decades.
The younger generation rarely hears of this music. Got shown this last night by my buddy Logan. It’s so damn good and honestly music like this is missing from todays society
The back ground voices sounds as if angels descended from the heavens for me to hear, beautiful, other worldly sounds. To ths day, I have never heard background vocals more beautiful, more superb than these talented Queens possess. Ever! I might be wrong but I don't think I ever will.
My best friend and myself went to the Aladdin Hotel and Casino we were in high school back in 76 We heard Gino on the radio we could not pass up this concert oh the good times .Love You Gino . Pam and me are still friends long distance .My bestie
Never judge a book by its cover. I've learned to never ever make stupid asumptions about an artist. What an amazing performance. Thank you Gino for having me a lesson in humility.
I envy you, David. One of my greatest regrets is not seeing the BTB tour with Craney killing it on drums. Kick myself more than you can imagine. You are a ;icky man to have those memories. Wish you could put them on a flash drive and send them to me.
***** I remember my friend Kevin (who's already pretty small and a drummer himself) ducked down and sneaked past the security lines when the band was coming out after the show. He ducked and ran over to Craney to shake his hand and say, "good job, man" and ran back out. I had forgotten also how good Daryl Stuermer was.
From the Mark Craney website, his own words about this tour: "Brother to Brother In May of 1978, I got the gig with Gino Vannelli. It came about when I decided that maybe I could get back with Jean Luc Ponty. I called Ponty's manager, who said he'd just hired the drummer from Gino Vannelli, Casey Scheurell. I knew that Gino was on A&M Records and would need to replace Casey, so I called my friend at A&M, and a half hour later I was talking to Gino. The next day, I went out to Gino's house and he put me under a microscope, playing drums in a bedroom of his house with his mother, father, two brothers and their wives watching. It's a unique kind of pressure, having somebody's mom staring at you. But I got the gig. In 1979, I did the Brother to Brother tour. I got married that year, and I was also teaching and recording whenever I could, trying to build a foundation. Working with Gino was the most high-pressure, demanding, precise drum gig I ever had, and I loved it. Because Gino is a drummer, I pretty much got to play whatever I wanted, and the drums were always the second thing in the mix, after the vocals. Gino was a fun guy to be around. A nice guy. I love them all, the whole family. A great bunch. They really know what they're doing."
Listening to Gino sing is just like he just made his song today. This is what you call real Entertainment. I was a kid when my family exposed me to his music. I grew up listening to all of Mr Vannelli music. thank you so much for posting your article. DAILY i LISTEN TO GINO.
Mark Craney was and is unmatched by any. Tasteful, explosive ....in such perfect execution..He truly was the master..Not Gadd or Weckl or any other ....Thanks Mark...
Young Choe Of course, I'm sure Eddie brought a tons of his own material for the A, but (sadly) he is not credited anywhere, and being just "guest" musician really doesn't suit him...for example, ending of Uniform and mind boggling complexity of Pine Marten's Jig I'm surely are the Eddie Jobson inventions. Also I would not be surprised if more-less complete album is done by his and Martin's Architecture...Ian has showed that he doesn't like strong competition in the band, so this might be reason why Eddie was featured on one album only.

Gino at his commercial peak, and what a killer band!! Stuermer totally nailed that solo. What a blessing!
