As a young guitarist... I would always seek out 45 rpm singles of songs to learn. Prior to digital recordings in the 70s if you played a 45 at 33.3 it slowed downed solos making it easier to copy the licks. Seems like I had to lower the tuning of my guitar 1 1/2 steps to match the tuning.....kids now have it made😂😂😂
There is British engineer who does a recent interview with the recording engineer Shelly Yakus of this song. Mike Huart show and he may have some hints as to why this is so good
Doing a double dip. Reaper is song that was worked on sonically to amplify the individual instruments plus the song is very dreamy and deliberate so it almost leads you to a slower version. It rich in sound already very Byrdsy...some songs aren't that well constructed like this one.
Is this Blue Oyster Cult slowed down to 33 of a Type O negative cover? Lmao! It's dope for sure, but it sounds like Peter Steele on vocals. Prove me wrong!
I love this!!!! Scary as hell! And the feeling is awesome! This is way better than listening to stairway to Heaven backwards waiting for Satan to speak to me!LMFAO!
With this music playing imagine the scene: You're in a your room, badly lit only from the moonlight in the open window with the white curtains flapping due to the wind. You're cornered close to that window, with your eyes wide open, mouth also open in a horror expression, you're using a greeen pijama, once very confortable, now soaked with your sweating. In fact your uncovered skin shines, like it was hot day lf summer, but this is a cold sweat in a windy night. The image was far away, like it was coming from the door in your room, but it moves closer, slowlly, then you can see more details of your legs, and a small glass of water in the small table right in your left side, half empty. Your room has a beige carpet, but you can hardly see a shadow coming from behind the camera. At first it seems static, but looking closelly, it moves very slowlly, but with a steady movement. Its just now that it can be seen that the footage is in slow motion, the camera slowlly moves towards your face, that also following the camera movement starts to become more and more desperate, and the image starts to go more amd more dark as we see the face closet and closer. Okay that music got great for a horror movie!
Oh I so need to find a copy of this. I like messing around with the pitch controller, and find the sweet spot that brings out the chills down the spine. This sounds like its perfect for it. Just a matter of finding that records g spot.
Loved this...better than most stuff today....however I cant listen to this again cause after listening to this rendition...every time somebody would turn on a microwave I would pee my pants and forget my name for 15 minutes... one bad Christmas let me tell you....
The sad but sort of happy version @ 2 X speed- or, the SHTF version @ 0.25 speed- thank me later PS- @ 2X it has more of a song by the wipers feel, especially the solo
don't throw away those crazy heart attack inducing hard rock records you have on your shelves. Just slow them all down with the " Ronco Zombonater" Ap available at your local cvs walgreens whatever and whereever they sell hearing aids
@@Howardax you’re welcome! It’s been a while since I played guitar but I know the approximate slow down from 45 to 33 ⅓ is about 25% , so as far as tuning goes I dunno what that is from like E standard.

Finally
Used to work in a record store and anytime we came across the 45 single this was a must. Thanks for putting it up
I can attest to this! My friend and I did this with like Guns n Roses 45s 😂
At this tempo, and in this octave, the riff sounds like the opening of The Beatles' "Day Tripper".
true. It does.
The first note does. Literally everything else is not.
No, it does not.
Peter Steele sure outdid himself here.
Pete Steele is back
I Heart Noise / Ilya S that's what I thought.
No. Unfortunately :(
the end of the party sunday morning
going to be my funeral song
Nob head

This makes me fear the reaper
3:24-4:38 when you are out after dark and suspect someone is following you
My 12" picture disk version of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" sounds good this way, too.
David Gebhart I can imagine
B e l a ' s d e a d
Sounds like Type O Negative.
Thought the exact same with the last song I listened to at this speed which brought me here that was Toto's Africa
Crap. I thought maybe it was a lost Type O Negative track...
this is basically His Infernal Majesty's cover of this
Right...lolololzzz
Holy shit right!
Hell yeah! Peter Steele immediately came to mind when the vocals hit.
"I have a fever, and my only prescription is to have the song slowed down to 33 RPM... Oh, and more cowbell."
A lot of songs sound weird and wrong when put to 33. What is going on musically to make this work? Still sounds like a good functional song.
this is straight up a better song
Because Type O Negative has done some mumbo jumbo to the musical spectrum.

Now this would be the Grim Reaper favorite version spooky as hell and spine chilling
Doomer version.
Why did i want to listen to this so much?
Lol ima put this on when my friends are high and trick them that they’re actually hearing the original but they’re too high to notice 🤣
For additional ha ha's, put on the song "Tequila" @ slow & tell them it's the hang over version
This is just how H.I.M. did it live.
This sounds awesome!

I would love for this song to be played at my funeral

I honestly think Alvin and the chipmunks slowed to sound like acid rock is pretty much fire
It's the best nonexisting genre of music ever made. Fucking perfect.
2:18 is my fav part
4:20 yyyyeeeeeaaaaahhhhhh! llllllooooooovvvveeee hhhaaaaatttteeee lllllllloooooovvvvveeeee
Now play it backwards at 33 and I think you might hear the secret messages about the end of the world.
We're there! Virus blooz

Sounds like Jame Gumb is singing it.
Come on baby... put the lotion in the basket...
I thought it was John Grant.

I love this!!!! Scary as hell! And the feeling is awesome!
This is way better than listening to stairway to Heaven backwards waiting for Satan to speak to me!LMFAO!
Kid: Mom can we listen to Blue Oyster Cult?
Mom: We have Blue Oyster Cult at home
Blue Oyster Cult at home:
That's very original.
:(
I've got a fever...
...and the only prescription...

🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂
Thats so sick
well now I know what a cover by Ghost would sound like...opening lick totally lifted from The Hollies' Long Cool Woman, apparently just sped up

Almost sounds like the "crash test dummies"!
I love this song
If the Adams family was a band and Lurch got to be front man every once in a while.
Hey, I can play this on guitar finally.
Beautiful
Still needs more cowbell.
Still listening in 2020

Broooooo I think the drugs kicked in
Fire bad🔥🔥
Setting the playback speed at 1.5x brings this close to the original in tempo but it sounds so strange...
That is actually pretty cool
Playin' it back at half speed coz the indica told me to. . .
Real ones know
@@Francis.Thornton.2 We had an old Seabreeze portable that played at 16 rpm. Old School, bay-bah!
This is great, thank you!
Kyuss meets Masters of reality band and album!
Needs more cowbass
Hm - hearing it like this, it kind of puts me in mind of Katatonia... That'd be an interesting cover!
Nick Siepmann what a band!
Works at either speed!
My new theme song, especially at the peak of the song
Wow
Wicked!! I 🖤 it
We need more cow bell in slow mo
Barry White sings Blue Oyster Cult....

I just happened on to this 45s at 33rpms fad and I have some news for you guys....your parents got stoned and did this every weekend.
Now we get to do it
Disturbed doing a cover.
All of a sudden, the cowbell sounds sad and depressing. I wonder what rock legend Bruce Dickinson thinks of this version?
I think Bruce Dickenson will have us all wearing gold diapers baby!
Now it sounds like Fleetwood Mac lmao
I got a fever.. n tha only prescription... is more cowbell
time to get myself a baritone electric guitar :)
i’ll meet you there
Play with 1.25 speed and it's almost normal but deeper
Coronawave®
That cowbell is much clearer.

Yep getting older now, sounds right!
That's what happens when you forget to set the jukebox to play American 7-inch vinyl! ;-)
This sounds exactly as the cover made by H.I.M
Isaac Hayes goin' grunge?
what is the b-side?
Tattoo vampire
now with 33.3% heavier boots
Try it with RUclips’s playback speed at 50%.

POV my ass playing BOC in c standard
Wow.
What tuning would this be on guitar?
25% lower
