@@carlosramirogonzalezvalero6376 Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I've inspired a bunch of people to move to Mexico. I'm ready to tour the first custom home inspired by my channel ;-)
1st An absolutely beautiful home. All great info. Whenever we get down there, if we can't find an already built home that works for us, Carlos will be at the Top of the list. Pam really wants a U shaped house with a pool in the middle . GRrrrr8 vid Mr. B P n D
I like Pam's idea. Kat is also a fan of a house built around a courtyard (but with a fountain in the middle.) Works for me - if our house blows down in the next hurricane, maybe that's what we'll do. :-)
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico How do you swim in a fountain ? Pam wants the "Pool Boy" (Me I think) to bring her poolside drinks as she floats by on her floaty. Personally I just want to cannonball in to see if she gets wet. 😇

I can say from experience that Carlos and his team are the best builders in BCS. Not only are they easy to work with, and the homes are absolutely beautiful; but the service after the home is built is top-notch. Carlos stands by his build and is there to fix any issues. That is a quality not found in many builders no matter where you live. Highest recommendation. Great video, Brighton.
Oh wow. Is Abby a hairdresser? I think I've met them and done business with Abby. I met Carlos too. Very good guy. They are a wonderful couple. Please ask Abby to reach out to me. Great architecture
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico I'm not sure if Abby would remember me. I was in her salon about 6½ years ago while sailing throughout Mexico. I'll send her a message via Carlos's site. FYI: she and her salon team are outstanding. I highly recommend her. Carlos is an upstanding gentleman too.
Flights booked for end of August to come check out La Paz. Possibly relocate from Huatulco. We have watched all your videos and have Flash (haha aka Gordon) booked in and ready for boots on the ground. Two thumbs up Brighton!
Such an interesting video, I have never seen one that tackles the topic of a custom home build. There are so many things to know about when choosing a contractor and you made great points at the end regarding the U.S. and Canadian standards that are different from the Mexican way of building a home. It was also cool to see the shell that Carlos and Abby began with and how beautiful it is now.
Is cost per square foot in Baja include the outdoor living areas. For instance. If you have 1700 sq feet of indoor living area and 1700 sq ft outdoor covered patios and outdoor kitchens, would cost per square foot be on 1700 or 3400 sq feet.
In Mexico we price only the interior living space, this video was shoot with a 17 pesos per dollar and this price includes appliances and AC units exchange rate, so The the price of the exterior living space would need to be calculated separatly, also tell the builder if you want him to incluide the appliances and AC's, because in Mexico we don't incluide it normally. now the exchange rate is aroun 19 so it variates depending the exchange rate.
When Carlos built our house, we paid in pesos. When the exchange rate hit an all time high we sent all our money to our Mexico account and between that, and the interest our money made while in the account, we saved about $60,000.00 on our build. Carlos is a great builder
LMAO... of course gringo prices. $200 Sq/ft... nuts even if it has premium finishes it is at least 100% overpriced... That's why he has the house he has.
@ehawk30 Carlos is not cheap. He runs a very successful business and so does his wife. You have to also look at prices in Baja versus the mainland. Everything is more expensive in Baja (labor and materials.)
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico I can attest both Carlos and Abby are vibrant and driven entrepreneurs. I've been a client of Abby's while spending time in La Paz. Fabulous couple. I wish they lived in the mainland in Sonora so I could hire Carlos to design and rebuild my Mexican hacienda.
Now I have a cousin (I'm Mexican American) in Jalisco who is a structural engineer and a builder. He showed me a residential premium house (marble floors, granite, quartz, lots of wood) he just delivered to Mexican clients @ around $1100 per sq meter. 1 sq meter = 10.7 sq/ft. So, Carlos is operating on 100% premium because most gringos think is steal because they pay $400+ sq/ft in USA. I know, i know Baja is more expensive because is isolated... not 100% more expensive it is not.
You also need to look at the market. What does an existing home cost? If existing homes cost $200/square foot, should Carlos charge $100 to build a brand new one? And builders who work for gringos definitely charge a premium. Gringos are more demanding than Mexicans. For instance, I'm working with my builder now on details for how the shower tiles are to be installed. He's used to working for Mexicans and usually installs the tiles and grouts the edges. But I want him to use specific "edge tiles" which have one finished edge. And I want to minimize cut tiles in key points, so he needs to make the walls a specific width to be able to tile the ends.
The price is 34,000 pesos per square meter, which includes AC units and appliances. With the dollar at 17 200 USD /FT2 (at the time of recording the video). As mentioned in the video, it would be best to obtain a complete set of plans and obtain three quotes from reputable and professional builders. This will allow you to compare prices and make an informed decision.
