    Cool reaction. Did you catch the time paradox when Marty was playing Chuck Berry's 1958 hit song "Johnny B. Goode" at the dance, and the band leader Marvin Berry rushes to the phone to call his cousin Chuck to have him hear the song that he would remember, later write and turn it into one of his biggest hits BEFORE Marty was even born? It wasn't in your video so I wasn't sure if you caught that. This movie has a lot of time paradoxes, and paradoxes (among other things) are why physicists think time traveling to the past is impossible. Traveling into the future is definitely possible, in fact happens all the time actually, but into the past...no. But I still LOVE time travel movies! You're right, Doc Brown is mispronouncing "gigawatt" but back then nobody knew how a "giga" was supposed to be pronounced because home computing was in its infancy and that kind of computing power was years and years away, so it wasn't a commonplace prefix like it is now because nobody talked about gigabytes and stuff like that yet and it's a Latin prefix that rarely pops up in daily life otherwise. Christopher Lloyd, the actor who plays Doc, didn't know how it was supposed to be pronounced and nobody on set knew to correct him while they were filming it so it stuck.

  • @kriscynical
    @kriscynical 3 года назад +1

    The gigawatt pronunciation... I don't know if anybody's answered this, but you ARE correct. It's pronounced with a soft G, like gigabyte. At the time the movie was filmed, the scientist they consulted about the terminology in the script actually mispronounced it, so it ended up being mispronounced in the movie. 😂
    Even in 1985 the concept of a gigabyte of data storage was absolutely UNHEARD OF, especially among the masses, so the pronunciation of the measurement "gig" wasn't common the way it is now. Kind of like in the early '00s when the masses didn't know what a terabyte was yet.

    The "too darn loud" guy was the singer whose song Marty was playing.
    It's gigawatts, but pronounced "jigawatts" for the funniest reason: the writers weren't knowledgeable in science, so they went to a seminar, and they heard a German scientist pronounce it jigawatt, so they naturally assumed that was the correct way, so... it stuck. They had no consulting pros in the field of physics, or basic science, on the set.

    No, 'Jigawatz' is not an old pronunciation for gigawatz. Back then, most people hadn't heard of that word. They didn't know how to pronounce the word correctly so the creators of the movie mispronounced it - and that pronunciation made it into the movie. Ironically, I think it actually helped the movie. The weird-sounding word just made the quantity seem huge.

    The cafe scene is one of my favorite jokes. He asked for a tab, which is the name of a popular 80s diet cola, also what they called the bill for the food back then, hence why the guy said I cant give you one unless you order something, asked for a pepsi free, which was sugar free pepsi, and the guy thought he was asking for one without paying. EDIT: the Gigawatt pronounciation was a guess that stuck.

    • @Ernie_Centofanti
      @Ernie_Centofanti Год назад

      I know this is a nitpick, but the product known as Pepsi Free back in 1985 was not sugar-free; it was caffeine-free. The writers made a mistake on that one. But the joke is still funny.

    Hey y’all! I’m sorry if there may have been points where I talked then asked a question about something that may have happened; I can only think of one instance in this video so far, which was the point where I had mentioned I’m surprised that she hadn’t given him her number before, but the number she was giving was her grandma’s. Honestly, this really wasn’t a big deal either way, it wasn’t like, plot-altering, but I have folks mentioning this particular point, which is totally fine! Thanks for letting me know.
    But yeah, my bad. I’m still learning the balance between talking and listening with these kinds of videos so bear with me! 🤪

      It's cool. I actually subscribed because of how well you did. You did a pretty good job of catching yourself and paying attention to something going on in the movie. Keep it up. I predict that you will be getting a lot of movie reaction requests in the future. Quite a few of them might be a little predictable, but there will be those that require silence in order to catch the littlest detail. I have no doubt that you will find your rhythm. I enjoyed this reaction and I'm looking forward to the next.

And if you miss nothing, those same douchos are going to say you're lying about never having seen it before. I first saw this film in a movie theater the year it was released and I was 29. I still kind of miss the 1980s, when technology was less prevalent than it is today. Back then, Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were already well known in TV sitcoms (Fox in "Family Ties" as a young Republican living with his liberal parents and 2 younger sisters (he was still doing that show when filming BTF at night; he was called in to replace Eric Stoltz, a talented actor who was nevertheless considered wrong for the Marty part after filming several scenes which had to be re-shot; Lloyd a few years earlier had played a nutty, drug-addled cabbie in the cast of "Taxi." Looking those shows up might be fun if you haven't seen them.) BTF is a classic originally intended to stand by itself. The two sequels were made in response to the rave reviews and profits that this first film generated. Fox, who developed Parkinson's Disease a few years after this, now (in his 60s) heads a research foundation looking for a cure; he's married to Tracy Pollan, who had played his girlfriend in "Family Ties." Lloyd, in his 80s, is still active in TV and movies. In 1988 he played a the villain in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" about humans co-existing with cartoon characters -- another film worth reviewing, if you haven't already. BTF inspired the TV cartoon "Rick and Morty."

    Fun fact when Marty plays for the battle of the bands and the guy who stands up and says I’m afraid you’re just too loud His Real name is Huey Lewis but here’s the thing he’s not a actor he’s a musician of a band in the 80’s called Huey Lewis and the News and the song that Marty’s band plays a different edgy version of their hit song The Power of Love ❤️! Bonus thing If you go on RUclips and type in power of love official video it shows the back to the future car pull up and Doc Brown shows up to see Huey’s band play a concert and goes in and the onlookers look through the car you should check out that music video you’ll love ❤️ it!

    The good thing about having a time machine is no matter how many times you screw up, you can always keep going back 10-15 minutes & trying again. That's what makes the dramatic lightning scene so ridiculously funny.

      It’s also risky to do that; the more times you go back, the more of you there will be at that place in time, and the harder it will be to avoid running into yourself (à la BTTF part 2)

      I'm sure most people would absolutely hate if they tried to revive Back to the Future because the 3rd ended it so nicely, but doing a prequel like that, telling Doc's story, would be pretty cool. I guess they could also do something similar to the Telltale game if they wanted something after 3, that had a decent plotline.

      @@jturner7771 Exactly. They explained it. The Libyans gave it to him, in exchange for making a bomb for them. So a movie showing how he got the plutonium would be Him telling them he'd make a bomb for them, if they gave him the plutonium and them agreeing and giving him the plutonium. It would be about a 10 minute movie consisting of talking about something we already know. With no actual time travel involved.
