    A lot of people watch this and misunderstand….. when Marty is driving away from the terrorists he is simply trying to get away. His intention is not to time travel. He just wants to speed up to avoid being killed. But he forgets that the machine is set up and ready to travel through time.

      Are you suggesting he intended to crash into the newsstand at 90 MPH? I think the movie made it clear that his intention was to time travel. He was monitoring the speedometer as he approached 88 MPH and stayed at full throttle despite the newsstand in front of him. I can see the argument that he didn't intend to time travel when he first jumped into the DeLorean or for most of the chase, but he must have eventually come around to it.

      @@-.._.-_...-_.._-..__..._.-.-.- movie clearly depicts he mistakenly activates the time machine while shifting gears during his escape. Marty's full intention also comes right out of his mouth: "let's see if you bastards can do 90 (mph)". How do you think he is "clearly" intended to time travel which takes place at 88 mph. Then, that line would've been "lets see if you bastards can time travel", especially in a movie trilogy that is highly revered for its peculiar and continuous script.
      PS: doing 90 back in '85 was something special and DeLorean was one of few machines that can achieve it.

    Hi Nia!😊 That is the Thin Man from "Charlie's Angels" that plays George, Nia. The judge that says Marty is too darn loud is Huey Lewis who made the music for the film.😉 Nope, Michael J. Fox can't sing. The "Twin Pines Mall" sign has changed to the "Lone Pine Mall" when Marty goes back to the future. He killed the Pines when he crashed through the barn in 1955. The end of the film was a joke. They had no plans for a sequel, and had no idea how successful the film would be. Unlike other trilogies, the Back to the Future trilogy is best viewed within a short time of each other, as they are very interconnected. Forgetting small things makes it more difficult to follow events in the sequels. Great reactions to your very first Back to the Future film, Nia!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Now, Loraine changing clothes in front of her window with the curtain drawn up is questionable. @@volourn9764 That's not really an issue, because Lorraine has no idea that Marty is her son. That isn't even a remote possibility in her mind. The entire point of that relationship in the film is to highlight that it's wrong. The film is fully aware that it would be wrong. Marty tries to avoid her at all costs, and Lorraine thinks he is just some random guy that leaped in front of her dad's car. In the end, when she does kiss him, she feels repulsed by it and loses all interest in him from that point.

    At dinner in 1985 when she asked if he’d been bird-watching she was simultaneously putting him on the spot, teasing him in front of the children, playing coy, flirting, and attempting to draw him into the conversation. If Einstein skiped that minute in BTF1 and was basically missing for that minute how can Marty and Jennifer see their future selfs in BTF2? They would have been missing for 30 years. The only thing about BTF2 that I like is that it leads into part 3.

    • @glokash
      @glokash 9 дней назад

      @@ChadKlineyou’re not thinking 4th dimensionally lol the future Marty and Jennifer exist meaning Marty and Jennifer definitely make it back, it’s just their choices after making it back that determines what future they end up having. So because Marty let people rile him up by calling him chicken, their future shown in BTTF2 is the failure Hilldale reality. But if Marty doesn’t let himself get riled up by being called chicken, his future would be different-he wouldn’t have raced Needles and never would’ve crashed into the Rolls Royce. Does that make sense?

    • @ChadKline
      @ChadKline 8 дней назад

      @glokash sorry but I think it's you who is not thinking 4th dimensionality. When Marty and Jennifer would go to the future it would create an alternate time-line where they were missing for 30 years then when they return the time-line would revert to a time-line where they weren'tmissing. Sorry but you can't go to the future and see your future self.

    • @glokash
      @glokash 7 дней назад

      @@ChadKline but in the reality of BTTF, they do and can see their future selves. Of course this story is all fictional and we’re going by the rules set up by the trilogy.
      The trilogy portrays 47 year old Marty/Jennifer as being there in 2015 which must mean the 17 year old Marty/Jennifer had to have made it back to 1985 otherwise you would be right, they’d be missing and wouldn’t exist.
      The fact that the 2015 reality is the way it is means that when 17 year old Marty/Jennifer go back to 1985, Marty’s choice to let Needles rile him up ends with him getting in the accident with the Rolls Royce. But Marty learns his lesson by BTTF 3 and makes a different choice at the end to not race, and that’s why the “YOU’RE FIRED” paper Jennifer brought from the future erased-Marty’s choice set their future on a different path. Does my explanation make sense now?

Stuff I can't quite comment on yet, but you're like totally dialed in.

    A couple of minor things:
    The mall is originally named "Twin Pines Mall." If you look closely, you'll see that in 1955, Old Man Peabody had a pair of pine trees at the end of his driveway -- but Marty runs over one of them. When Marty goes back to 1985, the mall is named "Lone Pine Mall."
    There are a lot of small details like that.
    This film creates a weird paradox that's never explained nor resolved. When Marty returns to 1985, he sees a version of himself go back in time. However, _it's not the same Marty_ . It's an Alternate Marty who grew up in the future that Original Marty created where his father is a successful, self-confident scifi novelist; his family is completely different; and Doc isn't killed by the Libyans.
    The question becomes: what did Alternate Marty do when he went back to 1955? He might interfere with his parents' meeting, but to him it would be the way he'd always heard his parents recount the story: that a teenager was hit by Lorraine's father; that Lorraine was infatuated with him for a few days; and that this ultimately led to Biff's attempted SA of her and George clocking Biff.
    Or would he have interfered at all, thus allowing Original Marty's timeline to come into existence?
    This whole thing is entirely glossed-over and never mentioned. Over the years, fans have speculated that the most obvious thing is that Alternate Doc, now aware of everything Original Marty did, simply made certain that the plutonium was packed so that Alternate Marty could immediately return to 1985.
    However, that still creates a paradox, since there would then be _two different Martys_ who'd arrive back in Alternate 1985.
    Don't think too much about it, because the logical implications get very, very twisted. It ultimately results in what scifi fans call an Infinite Loop Paradox, where multiple different Martys start showing up in 1955, and Doc's only reasonable response is to never follow through with the time machine at all.
    In any case, the entire matter is totally glosssed-over. It's best to forget about it and enjoy the films, because dramatically they're very good. Indeed, the script for this film is taught in film schools as the "perfect script" because of the way it's structured. There are entire textbooks written about it.
    Another point: in the early hours of October 15, 2015, fans gathered at the Puente Hills Mall, the shooting location of the Twin/Lone Pines Mall, to celebrate the impending arrival of the DeLorean. Sadly, no flying DeLorean ever appeared above or near it, but the fan celebration was well-covered in the press.
    On a personal note: as an early Gen-Xer, I was the age of the teenaged characters when this film was released (though the actors are a couple of years older than me). I instantly fell in love with Lea Thompson and continue to be infatuated with her today.
    I am impressed that she was able to transition out of ingenue roles, which is rare in Hollywood. Typically, actresses simply "age out" and are discarded, but Lea continued to act for some time. She's also a successful Broadway actress and has transitioned into film and series direction.
    She remains beautiful, and is one of the few actress/directors her age who hasn't resorted to surgery nor botox nor enhancements. She's aged far better than me, and I really respect her not having chosen the enhancement route.
    No doubt if I were to ever meet her, I'd become a drooling fanboy and embarrass myself. ❤

    Great reaction Nia like always, love this movie its one of my favourites, and the trilogy is a timeless masterpiece. There are a cameo in this one, Huey Lewis and the News provided the song "Back in Time" to the Back to the Future soundtrack, which played during the film's credits. At the beginning of Back to the Future, Huey Lewis took on a nerdy persona in an uncredited cameo as a judge for Battle of the Bands. Marty's band "The Pinheads" played a hard rock cover of Huey Lewis and the News' "Power of Love," but were ironically rejected by Huey Lewis' character. And this was the first film role for Billy Zane While he played a bigger role than a short cameo, Billy Zane made his acting debut as Biff's friend Match in this movie and second. Keep up the good work.

    It's interesting that you are talking about this film as the first part of a trilogy. This was in the days where people weren't thinking about 2 and 3 before making the first. They had absolutely no plans to make a sequel. If they did they would not have had Marty and Jennifer meet themselves in the future as it breaks their own time-travel rules.

    26:37 This is the point where the _knight_ is born. It's brilliant, the way they reworked the dynamic between George, Lorraine and Biff.
    The _first_ time through, Lorraine met George and her heart went out to him because her father hit him with the _car._ This lead to them going to the _Enchantment Under the Sea_ dance together where they kissed for the first time, they fell in love, and they went on to get married and have a family.
    But the _second_ time through, Marty inadvertently interfered with their first meeting and had to arrange a _second_ meeting. But that time, George came across _Biff_ on the verge of violating _Lorraine._ It was here that he understood. It's one thing for Biff to be a _bully._ It's quite another for him to be a _predator._
    You can see it. George has connected the dots. He has foreseen the rest of the school year. He understands. From this point on, if he does not come to Lorraine's rescue, he will see her, after tonight, the victim he let down when she _needed_ him. And he will see _Biff_ as the predator he failed to stop when it was really _necessary._
    Thus, he became the knight the situation called for.

    Hey Nia, notice how George McFly uses his right hand to do everything during most of the movie including that weak right-jab on Biff but then sucker punches him with a powerful left-hook?
    Back in the day, kids were forced to use their right hand in everyday tasks because left handed kids were considered a bit backwards and lacking etiquette. In some case kids were subconsciously traumatised, which in later teenaged years made some of them shy or anxious. George got over it and gained confidence after that left-hook.

    We all love this movie and it is the beginning to one of the greatest trilogies of all time. Even with the plotholes (and there are many) it is still one of the most unique and fun scripts ever written.
    I was chuckling listening to you point out a lot of the time traveling stuff and pointing out some things that don't work like the mayor thing. Goldie was already mayor when the movie started. Unless what we are seeing is NOT the first time Marty went back to 1955 (which is a theory) Marty giving Goldie the idea to be Mayor is a plothole. Marty being able to run back and witness Doc getting shot is a plothole. The Mall is where the Peabody farm use to be, it isn't downtown where the clock tower is. Changing the dynamic of how his parents fell in love would've changed their entire relationship and lives. The two of them having the same kids with the same names and ages is pretty much impossible. And even if that happened, how could everyone else's life change but his not? There would be a a different Marty there. Everyone has forgotten about Einstein at the end of the movie for some reason. Ok ok... Like I said. We love this movie but it has a lot of plotholes.

    If you ever realize how many times Doc talks about Paradoxes. It’s been said that the Time Machine itself prevents time paradoxes. If you pay really close attention to the ending the Time Machine won’t turn over when the alarm went off. Had Marty gone when the alarm went off he wouldn’t have made it. Pretty much everything that happened contributed to him being able to go back. I just don’t remember if it did it in the other movies.

    15:18 a lot of people make a big deal about this “another one of these kids” line, either Lorraine’s father was a bad driver or there were frequent peeping Tom’s at that location, but I think the real answer is simpler, but maybe one lost to history. My parents grew up in the 50s (they were 9 and 13 in 1955) and both told me that there was a form of chicken that was really popular then. Kids would line up on the side of the street and try to run across ahead of an oncoming car. The last one to make it won (since he let the car get closest). Remember, this movie was only made 30 years after 1955 and that really isn’t a long time (30 years ago, I was a junior in high school and remember it very clearly) so I suspect the writers who created that scene were harkening back to that game of chicken.
    16:44 I have a daughter (16) who is thankfully not ready to date (she still kind of wants an arranged marriage), but the struggle is real. At church, I’ve watched a couple of boys following her around like love sick puppies (I’ve talked with both of them to let them know the best way to be friends without being weird or thirsty, but I’m not sure the talks stuck. Lest you think I’m invasive or nosy, keep in mind I’m a volunteer in the youth program at church and my primary responsibility is to be the friend/cool uncle/confidant/mentor to these teenage boys -especially the ones without active fathers in their lives (which is sadly most of them).
    18:06 I assume by “jigga”, Doc means gigawatts (think GB which is 1 billion bytes) which would be 1B watts, so the Time Machine needs 1.21GW. An electrical watt is volt X amps, so if you’re using a 12VDC system (which is what a typical car runs on), you’d need >100 million amps. Even at 270VDC (which is what operates the surfaces of large fly-by-wire aircraft, you’d still need 4.5 million amps. In comparison, a car battery typically holds no more than 1000 amps, so you’d need 100k car batteries all discharging instantaneously to power the Time Machine.
    33:23 have you ever seen a bird on a high tension power line? If so, the same thing is happening with the bird that is happening with Doc. When the bird lands with both feet at the same time, he is not the ground and can do so safely as the electricity has a better path to travel. The same thing with Doc: he’s holding the cable with both hands so isn’t a ground. It’s a safety lesson I learned as a child and it stuck with me. If you’re in a vehicle and live power lines wind up on the vehicle and ground, the safest thing to do is stay in the vehicle until rescuers get the power turned off. If that isn’t an option (i.e. the vehicle is on fire) then jump out of the vehicle (ensuring you launch and land with both feet at the same time) and keep jumping like that until you’re far enough from the vehicle to be safe.

    2. The teacher that tells Marty, "I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. (Heart of rock and roll)
    3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and was fired. Some of his long shots are still in the movie.
    4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose.
    5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene. 🤣
    6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous.
    7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955.
    8. IMVHO part II is the best of the trifecta.
    9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".
