I remember when this movie came out. The special effects were considered amazing. It was a visual masterpiece.
There was also a Star Trek movie out, and a critic said that THIS was true science fiction.
This movie was made for all those kids that play being an archeologist adventurer but also an astronaut explorer.
the music is burned into my brain from years of watching SG1
Without this film, there would never have been a Stargate SG-1 and other spin-offs.

StarGate has amazing special effects that still hold up including the impressive unique traveling scene which has fast movement that is beyond control of the humans using the StarGate.

Now you have to watch the Stargate SG 1 series to see the rest of the story, it's really worth watching.

Same, I came in contact with Stargate first before Star Trek and anything.
The Fugitive is a really good movie starring Harrison Ford. A must watch for it is amazingly good!!
Watch the TV series Stargate, it follows the story of this film. I'd love to watch it again with you.
I still remember this great science fiction blockbuster like it was yesterday mostly because it’s a unique movie with traveling to a other universe theme, impressive special effects that still look amazing, and a very unique device for traveling to a other universe that has incredible advanced technology.
It’s very amazing that this StarGate blockbuster movie was very successful because as a result it spawned multiple StarGate tv shows.
I recall seeing this cool great Science Fiction movie StarGate.
It’s a movie directed by the same German man that directed the very praised science fiction movie Independence Day.
This movie had one of the best composers at the time, David Arnold. He also composed the soundtrack for Independence Day (which also has superb music, it fits the movie like a pair of gloves; in my opinion David Arnold is up there among the best composers like John Williams and Hans Zimmer). He also composed for various James Bomb movie, including Casino Royale. However, the great music, and musical themes of the movie were marvellously picked-up by Joel Goldsmith and continued on with his own take on those themes for the TV series of StarGate SG-1, and StarGate Atlantis (and SG-1 is probably my favorite sci-fi TV series of all time, very close second would be Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).
I cannot recommend Stargate SG-1 enough, if you like the movies then you’ll love the series.

Stargate has always been one of my all time favorites. Fantastical yet totally plausible.
I liked the Film and the Series that Followed.
Great start to a great franchise. Now you have to watch the series!
The film is a good start but the series and spin off is so much better in every way. Such a good series with amazing casting and so many great episodes.
They had to change a few things, going from a single event movie to a weekly series.

personally i couldn't watch it. They always 'magically' understood english etc. which is obviously nonsense. Love the movie though
I have the music CD for Stargate somewhere. Haven't listened to it in years but it is really good.
The story expands exponentially in Stargate SG-1. All the gaps are eventually filled in.
Watch the TV Show. It is worth it. Another good show to watch Star Gate Atlantis
The actor portraying Jack O'Neill also portrayed Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Cruz once told me that they actually learned ancient Egyptian for the movie.
They did indeed :) They actually had an Egyptologist work on the dialogue. Which is a wonderful Easter egg for those few of us who know some ancient Egyptian!
And on to SG1, starts one year later. The tv show lasted 10 years.

You should also watch after the series Stargate, Stargate Atlantis and finally the films Ark of Truth and Continuum.

30:50 -- RE: "The Transformation of the Pyramid is Beyond Belief!"; A: Yep! But it's way easier to accept in this film because we saw the pyramid underneath being used as a kind of landing pad, and the technological thing changing form on the top is a honkin big spaceship. 10 out of 10 for the conceptual art department, right?
Stargate Atlantis was my favorite.
stunning music and a wonderful movie - started several series and movies, and by the way, was the first movie with a web page (the extended version? good idea. who wouldn't want to see more from kurt russell??)

47:04 Just shows that sometimes you need go to another galaxy to find your loved one.
Filming the movie was complicated. Having thousands of extras in the heat of an actual desert was a serious effort to stop people from dying was an effort.
The scene of the local coming down the dunes to attack the Ra dudes was mixed up. The direction for the extras wasn't great, so some of them were running in seemingly random directions.
The music makes the movie:)

I hope you start watching SG-1 and Atlantis too, even though s1-2 is a lot hit and miss (some episodes are great, some are very much not so), but then after that it gets much better.. the dynamics of the people are outstanding.
My top three Kurt Russell movies Overboard. Captain Ron. STARGATE. Oh and Big Trouble in Little China. So top four.
The movie is good but all 3 TV series were really good.

I hope you'll check out Stargate SG-1. If you enjoyed this film, I think you'll enjoy that series immensely. I worked on the set of that series in Vancouver for nine years as an explosives and effects assistant. I was fortunate enough to meet and become friends with most of the cast over the years during filming, and still keep in touch with many of them. There are also several spinoff series, one of which (Stargate Atlantis) I also worked on for a few years.
You should watch the series SG1 which is set a year later after this movie. At least the pilot movie for it to see if you like it.
That tiny nuke x100 would do nothing to Earth. The largest one ever detonated was over 1500x Hiroshima and that did nothing. They should have added a few zeros.
Finally, someone else who understands that the nuke they had, wouldn’t do anything more than flatten a city at x100 it’s power, they should have added about 5 zeros for it to be a little more believable. But I suppose most people wouldn’t know that.
Now if you have a whooooole lot of time, you can watch the series Stargate SG-1. :)

i always loved this movie, its music score, script, and acting are superb, and it was the beginning of the tv series SG1
atlantis and universe, and they are all terrific to watch
My favorite thing was that they kept referring back to the movie, from time to time, for the entire run of the series. Absolutely phenomenal world and character building with a small budget (at least, in the beginning).
Emma you are such an elegant and classy beauty! Your voice could put the world in a trance. You would be on another level in any time or place…
Great film, Shame they never made the planned sequels and the series took a different route. Doubt we will ever see the original vision.

A great movie. Fyi Star gate tv show was after this. Other great adventure movies are The Mummy 1 and 2 (Which you can see part 2 after you saw part 1), The Prince Of Persia 2010 and The 2 National Treasure movies (You saw one you can see the second which is also great).
Emma, you've seen "Independence Day." Stargate is by the same director and the music is by the same composer.
Find the TV series and watch at least the first 2 episodes, to find out what happened next, and do a reaction, please.

I have always wondered, if they knew 6 of the 7 symbols was it really that hard to just try each one in position 7? There are only like 40 symbols and its known the 7th would not be one of the 6 already known and locked, so really that is only 34 or so possible combinations to test (the 6 known symbols and the 7th being 1 of 34 possible).
oh my, young people (like you ) have so much similar movies to see!! now you can get to the SG1 SGA and SGU saga series :-) ( like firefly, dark matter, farscape, galactica.., the expanse , and others ) . But in fact with 50' video is no more movie reaction this more a spoiling of the complete movie. I desagree..
