Hi I've just come across your channel watching st Fergus pill box camp. I am a fellow scotsman home town peterhead but been living in Wales for last 10yrs. Really is nice to see my local areas being explored and documented for all to view 👍 Very good knowledge of the history of the landmarks. Great video of Slains, been there many times myself. Good video content and look forward to seeing more of your adventures. Stay safe 👍
3:10 Also a younger Winston Churchill (English politician) stayed there in the 1930's - Some scaldal accossiated with his then fiancee running off in the night after a massive argument involving another woman alledgedly.
I enjoyed your video and tbh it reminded me how long it had been since I camped at a castle 5 minutes from my house - I am glad you enjoyed the vid - thanks for the comment.
You and I are both in a stealth camping group on Facebook, which is where I found your link to this video. I love camping and I love the paranormal, so a combination of the two in a video makes it irresistible for me to watch.
Great location, love the info you gave in your video. I know how it feels talking to a camera while people are passing. They look extra weird, because I try to talk english in my videos and thats not the first language here. I was already subscribed and I shared your video with the other #StealthCampingAlliance members. Welcome to the group of likeminded stealthcampers! 🤘
Nice vid. Some drone footage would have been good, but I suppose if your are stealth wild camping then you would not feel comfortable doing it... Subbed...
Thanks for the sub. I do have a drone, but I don't tend to take it on winter camps as the cold sucks the batteries down really quick in my experience - also its usually real windy up at Slains . I will get some drone footage at my camps when it warms up a bit.
What a tragic story about this castle. Ruined by some low-life greedy criminal, as these disgraceful scrap merchants typically are. How sad this beatiful building was not protected in time from dirt bags like that. Would that this castle could be restored to its former glory. Surely someone somewhere has the money for it. Looking at you for example, King Charles.
There is no shortage of Scottish castles for sale for rich foreigners to buy - slains was on sale a long time and the scrapper paid the going rate I believe - it is a shame it ended up abandoned like many of our castles.
@@theinvisiblecamper Man, especially because of its unique history, Slains Castle so deserved to have been treated with respect 💔😥. It was a gem. It's a damn shame these Scottish castles are left to deteriorate. It wouldn't be nice if they were bought by some Russian or Saudi or Chinese oligarch either- the invaluable history of these places belongs to Britain- hence I wonder why they're not taken into care by some British trust. Charlie III, to name one, is one of the richest men in the world, so he could easily have these castles preserved. That would be a worthy cause, better than, for instance, erecting clubs like the wef and flying around in private jets while preaching about 'clymut change'.
@@robintemmink2143 The castle was stripped before "historic listing " was a thing - they are all listed these days and protected by Historic Scotland which makes it pretty hard to destroy a castle these days. Most of the castles in Scotland are still privately owned - even the ruins.
Nice! Enjoyed the history and the camp!
Thanks - it's a great spot and I'm a massive history nerd

Thanks - Im glad you enjoyed the vid. I will do a SCA challenge vid soon.
Awesome video!! I wish we had castles like this in the U.S.
We are fortunate to have so many castles here in Scotland - a great place for a history nerd like me to live! Thanks for your comment.
3:35 It was because of the taxes. Any building with no roof did not have to pay the taxes of the day - So they removed the roof, and everything else.
