Is $5 Trillion Economy Achievable?

  • In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his government's ambition to make India a 5 trillion dollars economy in the next five years. However, the reality is that most of the sectors are suffering from dwindling growth figures. The Auto sector is facing its worst crisis in decades. In the real estate sector, the number of unsold homes have increased. The tax collection has grown by just 1.4 per cent. The big question is: Is PM Modi's goal achievable?

Pre-GST, you had a hodge-podge of taxes between states. In what other country do you have to stop at the border of each state to basically go through "customs"? It was complete idiocy, and GST reigned it in. The only thing is that they should've made it one rate rather than the stupid 4 or so rates we have now.

A few simple things that can be done 1. If anyone has been to Thailand , korea , japan and Taiwan you will see the following . Every 1 Km a 7/11 , followed by family mart and a mini Tesco . All these have uplifted quality and allows other small vendors to sell around them with uplifted quality. Now if you take the size of India and have the above please calculate the jobs that will be created and all transactions to be taxed. Now it cannot be done in india as we have low quality and only global chains will bring quality and then the sector is open for anyone to invest. If you travel in thai interiors this has not negatively impacted small traders as all are prospering. 2. We all know how much illegal betting is going in IPL etc. Lets legalise it so we can control it and collect tax.3. Crypto and blockchain current investement is $272,119,620,945 . That's 272 billion in a bear market. We all know its a technology and will come one day. There is trading that happens globally. Invite the global exchanges to operate from India and development to happen here. We can tax the transactions. That's a lot of money. 4. Taiwan wants to be friends with India . We are too scared to be friends with them to offend China. Check out the investments from Taiwanese in china. If we can get 50% of that here by being friends we can offset made in china to produce in India. Moreover it will help made in India defence exports if we export to Taiwan and codevelop say Tejas 2 together. There are a lot of low hanging fruits here and I am hoping Modi government will act now and they have the mandate of people of India.5. Non performing government units ? Sell please unless there is a core reason not to. 6. Tie up with Japan , Korea , Taiwan , Israel , Singapore , US for duty free Singapore or Hongkong in Andaman developed by these countries with Indian public/private partnership.

Auto down 41%, Agri growth down from 7% to 2%, Banking in crisis mode moving towards Bankruptcy. India has not seen this decline in 2 decades. Some experts say that actual Growth figures could be around 3.5% !!
Need to take immediate remedial steps like slashing GST across the board, stabilizing Banks, to give relief to Bussinesses and restoring confidence of the markets.
Lastly, you can have all the arrogance you want, when you achieve $5 Trillion target but not before. India has a great example to follow; China.

There were a series of statements which brought some negative sentiments in auto market. First the BS6 norms due to which Maruti Suzuki has decided to stop its production of diesel engines and that would definitely impact a buyers decision to go for a diesel car now even if its available cuz he will think of its resale value. There is another information regarding discontinuing all petrol and diesel cars in near future and making it completely electric. First electric vehicles are not completely proven. Needs some time to auto manufacturers to do some r and d to comeup with cost effective solutions. That one statement has made buyers to wait and go for a used car for a shorter run till they have some electric car options. If government wants to revive the auto sector. Cut down a little bit on BS6 cuz anyways the pollution from auto is far less than others in the country right now. Secondly, if govt want electric or alternative fuel solutions, give the buyers some tax benefits as an incentives.

India should follow Kautilya. He suggested a mainly public sector based economy with complete control of the government over the financial matter. Thus, Kautilya suggested renationalization of coal and other mines, of all banks, create a state trading organization to control imports, promote agriculture using subsidies and tax reduction.
A private sector-based economy cannot promote employment and it is anti-Kautilya.
GST is a disaster for most small and medium scale industries; Nationalized banks are not giving loans to small and medium scale industries. Small and medium scale industries have no choice but to the loan sharks. China is destroying the economy. China is exporting everything from railway carriages to mobile phones to India.

Even the lowest earner businessman tries to evade tax in India, and it has been going on for at least 30-40 years. The economic growth we saw in the past that was not the true representation of the actual growth, it was probably a certain percentage of the actual growth which happened due to the tax evasion. Now, after the demonetization and GST, it has become very hard for people to make dealing in cash and evade tax; that's the main reason of this economic slowdown. But eventually the Indian market will recover from this downfall and when it will happen the true economic boom will take place, because India will get the due money back as tax from each and every sell. When this will happen, only then India will take a step towards becoming an advanced country. Otherwise, the way the Indian economy and business were being run, India would not get close to any advanced economic countries in even 100 years. Now at least we have hope to become a great nation. Stop stealing money people and return whatever is due to the country. You help your country and country will also take care of you. If you guys have any doubt on whatever I have been explaining, I request you to do a little study on how business rules-regulations work in the USA and how the economy works in the USA. The USA gets money for the single penny spent. I have been living in the USA for 12 long years now, and have been experiencing it in real-time. I don't even carry cash here, max $5 in cash I would find in my wallet at any point of time. Most transactions happen via credit card in the USA, so, no one really can evade tax; this country runs on an economic cycle. Basically, whatever I spend, it will come back to me in a cycle. That's how the economy should be. But I am afraid to say that lately, I have been seeing many cash dealings are going on here and there, which is scary and could be a big reason of economic meltdown in the USA in future.

The discussion largely exposes the economic reality. Though there are optimisim and aspirational belligerence, the exodus of Indians to greener pastures is worrisome and bespeaks the doomsday approach. The red Taoism and beuricratic excess have to be contained immediately. Ease of doing business continue to evade us.

5 trillion is nothing for 1.3 billion people! India need to focus on very large scale, very expensive export opportunities to reach these numbers and then India can easily hit 15-20 trillion let alone 5 trillion. When you manufacture and sell/export 5 million plastic paper cups like China, barely 2.5 million US dollar comes in as a revenue because paper cup is .5 US$ or 50 cents item but when you build JUST ONE Nuclear submarine or Aircraft Carrier or Frigate or Miltary Tank or Missile, ATLEAST 20 MILLION US dollar comes in after exporting JUST ONE Warcraft! So focus should be on Defense Manufacturing, Infrastructure building, Modernization and Build, Buil, Build, Build, Build and only build!!!!! here is formula for 15-20 Trillion economy -----
---Build Nuclear Submarine and Export to others (15-200 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Aircraft carriers and Export to others (50-500 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Military Aircrafts and Export to others ( 500 Million - 15 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Fighter Aircrafts and export to others (100 Million to 5 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Diesel powered Frigates and Export to others (150 Million to 8 billion Market Potential)
--Build Diesel powered submarines and Export to others (500 milllion to 5 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Fighter Helicopters and Export to others ( 10 Million to 20 billion Market Potential)
--Build Indigenous Chinook Helicopters and Export to others ( 15 Million to 80 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Indigenous under-water drones and Export to others (45 Million to 100 Billion Market Potential)
--Build UAV, Drones and Export to others ( 100 Million to 50 Billion Market Potential)
--Build MT Arjun Tanks and variants and Export to others (10 Million to 3 Billion Market Potential)
--Build GPS Satellites and Launch, Export to others ( 500 Million to 200 Billion Market Potential)
--Build Indigenous Anti Missile System (THAAD) and Export to others (50 billion to 2 trillion Market Potential)
--Develop, train Nuclear Scientists, engineers, military technicians just like IT professionals and sell their talent ( 50 Billion to 1 trillion Market Potential) Indian need TCS, Wipro type firms who supply Nuclear Scientists, Military Aircraft Professionals, Pilots to other countries and export the talent!
