    Hey Tesla Torque! We got a gift set of mudflaps from Tesla for Christmas too. Trouble is, I'd already fitted a set of mudflaps front and rear (from Amazon - of course) and applied clear PPF to the entire bodywork same week as we took delivery of the car. And no, we didn't use any Single Malt to clean up before fitting the flaps either. So ... backup mudflaps. Thank you Tesla!

    Took delivery of my M3LR towards end of November. I knew nothing about the kit but became aware through fb forums. I emailed Tescla SC in Edinburgh and they advised they should have been fitted for delivery. Booked in to have fitted and they also fitted the rear ones as well as goodwill - no cost and 30 mins from arriving to driving off. I was given the option of the shorter or longer front set and opted for shorter set as had read that longer ones were catching the road surface. I found the longer ones in the boot so we'll see how I get on....once I've cleaned the car.

      Thats good, I'd read a lot of bad customer service experience from Tesla, but since having one, not had any problems with them sorting stuff out. I guess most people only write stuff to complain on forums. Sounds like you had a good experience.

    Ours came with them (bought last september). The extensions/flaps are not installed by default)... Thing i might give it a go at fitting them after watching this since its a right bugger for crud stuck on to the sills. Probably made worst by it not having been waxed yet but that will now be a job for spring. Thanks :)

      Yeah, thats the bit I liked about watching the footage back, seems to deflect the majority of the tough stuff, so I'm hoping will do the same for tar, etc. I'm just going to keep an eye on mud, moisture and any build up behind the flaps. They were easy enough to put on, so might just clean them out once worst of winter is over

      This is true, but I think on these earlier versions they were looking at any way possible to save money, hence no floor mats. So I guess maybe they will make up money by those that don't claim/want them. Plus not all climates will receive them, so I guess reduces the need for them to customise their production lines

    Well done on getting over 1,000 subscribers! My car M3SR+ (Sep 2020) came with mudflaps fitted and splash guards in the boot. I think the splash guards are too big and will rub against speed bumps, etc. I'm going to remove the mudflaps next April and see what damage is behind them...

    September 2019, no email re mudflaps.
    Be aware that the splashguard part of the mudflap will rub against the paintwork and cause wear on the paint. Best to add some clear tape before adding the mudflaps.

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 года назад +1

      Clear tapes a great idea. I’ll probably do that. they were dead easy to install, so can whip them off easy enough. Might put some foam around them to stop mud going down as well

  • @astroplutonium

    Good video as always but those flaps are really bad design. I got mine preinstalled and removed them. They do not protect the car from grit, mud, salt and snow. Only from stones to the paint. It will cause over time corrosion to the panels behind it if you are driving in a place where they salt the roads in the winter though.
    I installed some after market ones that cost less and fit like a glove. But if you got yours for free and it is a Tesla product just go for it... i hope they will cover the corrosion from the accumulated mud behind the flaps as shown on 10:30. The gap between the flap and the panel is huge and all the mud goes basically behind the mud flap and it will never go away.

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 года назад +1

      Behind the mud flap is just the plastic, so should be fine from a corrosion point of view, and I thought it did a pretty decent job of deflecting the mud, which makes me think it will do the same with snow and grit. There is a gap, you're right, but I don't see it as much difference from what is there already. Like you said, it's free and seemed alright in the slow-mo, so I'm happy :)

    • @astroplutonium
      @astroplutonium 3 года назад

      @@TeslaTorque then read this and you will understand more where the problem is. The mud fills the panel behind it unfortunately.

    I wonder what these do to your range. I can see the splatter on my 2021 MY. The forward edge of my rear fender wells are speckled with mud/salt after only 3 weeks of ownership. I just feel like those mud flaps are LONG!! I feel like Tesla hit the owners with a little "malicious compliance" like "oh ok, if you want mud flaps, here, have these huge ugly and long mud flaps for free". Hahaha! I do hope they help and don't put a drag on your range. Being directly behind the wheels I can't see how it would be noticeable but who knows what they do to your range!

      Awesome. Funny thing is they are probably the only thing I would add that would reduce range. I don't even like talking off aero caps because I don't want to impact range for aesthetics. But the mud flaps from evannex protect so well that is worth any range decrease.

    • @TeslaTorque

      I don't know whether they will fit them, I imagine they would for a fee. Have to say though, they were really easy to fit. Took about 8 minutes a side and that includes me moving cameras around to film. It was literally pop out the two holding pins, flip open the underneath hatch, then do it all in reverse to put them on. It would be more difficult if you didn't have a ratchet thats for sure

    • @TeslaTorque

      I think the splash guard is the smaller part out the two, but I know what you mean. Some people have said they have just left the smaller part on as a compromise and it helps. I'm still undecided, mine doesn't bottom out that often, so I'm leaving it on for the winter at least an will revisit it in the summer. I guess it depends how frequently they are scraping. It won't be good for you paintwork if they are always flexing though
