But to most people who are not aware that OEM licence is actually stored in the BIOS (hence you can retrieve it from the BIOS), the title would read totally differently. :)
Yes, same. Lenovo do not provide OEM keys with the laptop. No sticker. Nothing. I have paid for the Windows Pro but could not get the key anywhere. This is a life saver. Thank you @Britec09

Thanks Alot!!! New win10 20H2 doesn't recognize win8 and win8.1 keys while installing from pendrive. So I had to check "i don't have a serial code" and continue installation. After I installed everything I pluged LAN and windows Activation was automatic. I think the only hard thing is to choose a correct Win 10 version (pro/home).
My hard disk crashed ... I installed a new SSD and installed Ubuntu on it... I installed windows 8 as virtual machine on the Ubuntu host... I installed ShowKeyPlus on VM. However, it shows "OEM key not present in firmware". How to retrieve the key from the VM. If it is not possible do I have to install windows as host and then retrieve the key?

He did tell the truth. Your product key (unless retail version which is very costly) is an OEM key which indeed is tied with your motherboard once activated. Unless you do a major upgrade like changing CPU etc, you can use that key for reactivating only that particular board.

@@kushalkharche553 I downloaded the 'media creation tool' from Microsoft's website and created a bootable usb (see how to do this step wise on youtube if u dont know) using another laptop. My laptop cane with windows 10 pre installed so i was also worried about license but dont worry, once you re-install it doesn't go anywhere, windows is automatically activated. Then i plugged in usb in my laptop and booted through that usb and then i followed the installation steps (you can also see this on youtube) and it took 20-25 minutes before the laptop was re-installed with windows.
Does this work if you already formatted your PC thinking you had the product key lying around somewhere and have already begun the process only to find out after that you lost the key? I still have the CD and the original invoice of purchase although neither of these help.

How would one go about permanently DELETING the OEM key, so a fresh copy of Windows 10 can be installed. So the install doesn't divert straight back into loading the OEM "upgraded" version of Win 10, and auto loading the old key along with it. This is madness. F HP AND MS.

I think if you can't boot into windows u can boot to safe mode and do this trick, not sure though never tried it personally

No you cant use that OEM key on any other board. Only retail version keys are allowed to be used on other boards but are very costly.

Of course it still works, the key is stored in the BIOS after all.
