Excellent, Jim. The Silent Enigma "is a masterpiece that not everyone can understand, and that’s all its charm. The deepest atmosphere, stunning emotional lyrically complex turns, amazing information - this album, gentlemen, is not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
If I had to live for however long the universe will be around, I'd still be listening to Anathema, it's never enough! The more I listen, the more I adore them! 💜💜💜 Back in 2005 I'd heard 3 songs and I knew then I'd love them forever! Didn't need more than 3 songs to know! Those 3 songs were: Are you there, Fragile dreams & A dying wish.
Thats a pretty cool idea :) I get this sad emotional Vibes from the Song like in many Katatonia Songs, just more agressive. I recommended them before. Katatonia is know for their incredibly harmonic melodic e-guitars. I think i recommended "old Heart falls" and "Takeover".
Jim, must try Anathema which showcase their evolution: Fragile Dreams Distant Satellites Springfield (you're gonna love this one). Dreaming Light Thanks!
I have nothing but love for this band and both of the Cavanagh brothers. Seen them live for the first time in February 2000, Wrocław, Poland. Already knew their stuff and all I can remember right now is that I was a very happy 19y.o. metalhead then. They were perfect at this gig and at every single next one throughout the years that I was lucky to see... Greatness.
My mind was blown the first time I heard the first version when diving into the old albums( I was already a fan of their newer stuff)....and again the new version. Anathema is such a good band. Just start listening to them. My favorite is from the early 2000s on....
if this is shaking, you'll be all the more amazed at 'serenades' or before. one of the wonderful things about this band is that they're always great, no matter the genre.
This is excelent. Loved this one. :) If you're willing to go down this path, as some viewers already wrote here, you should try My Dying Bride and Katatonia.
Jim! I think that of Anathema you should listen to some of "Weather Systems" songs such as "The Storm Before The Calm" or "Internal Landscapes". I considere this one their most valuable record. I think it is one of the most deep and emotional records I ever heard.
Love the original version. Jim maybe you could give My dying bride a chance soon "the dreadful hour" our "the light at the end of the world" would be nice but I'll let you pick . Love the channel keep up the good work.
Intoxicating. This atmosphere. I don't usually choose this subgenre when I want to listen to metal, but it always gets me. Liked the first more. Would you give 'Cyborg Octopus: Baptism of Clay' a try? Some proggy technical death.
Hey Jim. Really Enjoying your Channel. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this band Montgolfière - The Search. Keep up the videos! Greetings from South Africa
Wow Jim, you finally did IT. 😅 Knew you would enjoy this especialy the second version. But Hope you opened your eyes for the Doom genre in general. Doom All about dark emotion and Atmosphere, can be beautiful Deep and melodic, and anathema sure did that to perfection with the album The silent Enigma. Just brilliant. And i was surpriced that they still go old school in their gigs. The latest live old version was around 2014 if i remember correctly. Marts 2020 im going to see Them live in Holland, for the first time. They Will perform full album we're here because we're here. 10 years Anniversary. This album is produced by our beloved Mr Wilson. You may check that whole album Jim. Enjoy.
anathema members made many bands , u can check. antimatter, seratonal, Duncan Patterson, ion, alternative 4,blood divine, In this Video,Darren white sings, in other albums Vincent cavanagh, Anathema is the best band ever
Another band that kind of changed over the years. Check out the band Colour Haze. The track, She Said or maybe Aquamaria or maybe Überall or Black Lily or ... ?
Hi Jim! first time giving you a tip about a band: Sepultura - Attitude Sepultura - Desperate Cry Sepultura - Refuse / Resist (if you want to check later - Albums: Arise/ Chaos A.D. / Roots Bloody Roots)
Technically, second time! You posted on the Steve Rothery vid, but yeah, I get your point. Thanks for recommending, I look forward to hearing Sepultura, I have known about them for years, but have yet to knowingly ever listen to them so should be another fun rabbit hole!!!
If you would like another such contrast, I recommend Katatonia's song "Gone". The original version from the album Discouraged Ones and the much later version from Sanctitude.
Hey Jim! Lovely Mr Jim, who we simply can't live without. ( That's brown nosing for ya! ). Pretty please do a reaction to The Tea Party, either Correspondences or Walk With Me off their mercurial 95 LP The Edges of Twilight. Or anything from it really. Jeff Martin's voice is dynamic and it's rather amazing that only three chaps can work such musical wonders on one disc. Be ever so grateful!!
Hell yes. I'm still waiting to see a reaction video to this amazing under-rated 3 piece from Canada. Jeff supposedly had "perfect pitch" back in the day. And am thinking he may have/has/had synesthesia or whatever that is. Please consider them Jim!
Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence disk two. An amazing concept album, you will enjoy greatly. One of my all time faves. The Faceless - Autothiest Movement part 1 to 3. Great trio of songs from a great technical band. You need to add this to your list of songs to do all three songs come in at about 18 mins. I suspect you will enjoy this one. Although there is some heavy singing in there. Carcass - Heartwork. British death metal band with some great melodies. The Heartwork Album is their finest in my opinion. Well worth a listen Jim. Something a bit different as their songs have more song structure than most of the bands on here that are mainly prog.
I have to agree on fade-outs. A song should end, not fade out. Always makes it seem like they didn't know how to end the song. There are some exceptions, but not many.
I am not sold on the idea, many great artists have fade outs and it doesn't bother me that much. Sometimes there are little gems in the fade out if you turn the volume up as the song fades out you can hear bits in there that at normal volume you cant hear. I don't think it is an oversight by the artist not knowing how to finish the song. But each to their own, everyone is allowed their own opinion and views.
It's such a shame how great people are succumbed by time. What a majestic power they were. And how frail and pathetic they become. In the case of anathema, the first three albums are all that counts, while there was good music there after the passion and lust was lost.. But all is not lost, and never to be forgotten. sweet tears!
bu şarkıda kesinlikle ikinci versiyonu tercih ederim , cavanagh ın sesinin güzelliği ilk albümden sonraki albümlerde ortaya çıktı bence ve iyi ki progressive rock a geçtiler , dağılmış olsalar da hâlâ hayatımın grubu olmaya devam edecek
definitely my fav band , because ı couldnt find their sound vocals and emotion that ı got in another band , they ve come lots of time to Turkey , there are many fans here , ı had the honor of going to their concerts two times , both was amazing hours for me ♥️♥️
Glad to see your channel growing Jim, I get to see you play some of my favorite music plus learn some new great ones as well. If I may ask what is your profession? Cheers from Miami, Florida.
Amon Amarth! Please?! You'll love it. You are my favourite reaction/review channel on RUclips so I can't wait to see your reaction to their music. Recommended ones: With Oden On Our Side War of the Gods The Berserker at Stamford Bridge Raise Your Horns We Shall Destroy Where Silent Gods Stand Guard P.S. checking out the lyrics on Amon Amarth songs is non-negotiable :)
I wouldn’t be surprised if Anathema’s doom/death metal era had been slightly inspired by the Fields of the Nephilim as I know that they were one of the bands who inspired Paradise Lost who were also part of the peaceville 3 at that time ( Anathema,Paradise Lost,My Dying Bride).
Hello, I m follower from Turkey. Your reaction videos is different I think. Well, have you ever think to react different music from different countries? I believe music is universal so I want to recommend a song from Turkey. It is not heavy metal song, it just soft rock but I think you ll love it. Can you react "Duman-Kırmış Kalbini". Please man I really just wonder your and your followers reactions. Thank you.
The music of the first one is ok, but singing isn't quite to my taste. You've done so many, but have you checked out Hallatar? Finnish doom - two happy words, that describe us perfectly! :oD The second song is very much as heavy as the first version, but singing was more airy. Definitely better this one.
5 лет назад+1
Not only the music, but the story behind it, makes Hallatar a definitive must!🖤
I guess the Finnish doom started 1950’s from the song called Satumaa tango, a tango about the dream land. Lyrics tell about a land where everything is better and to where one can never get... 😁
anathema doesnt need this kind of video, anathema is the best band ever, no one can beat that, Sadly they stoped, because of money difficulty ,and afan opened adonation request in fund me to collect money for Daniel cavanagh,
Anethama is my favorite band. I just love how they matured. Both of their styles are absolutely brilliant.
Excellent, Jim. The Silent Enigma "is a masterpiece that not everyone can understand, and that’s all its charm. The deepest atmosphere, stunning emotional lyrically complex turns, amazing information - this album, gentlemen, is not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
Sunset of age was one of those songs that sounded good with a fade
If I had to live for however long the universe will be around, I'd still be listening to Anathema, it's never enough! The more I listen, the more I adore them! 💜💜💜 Back in 2005 I'd heard 3 songs and I knew then I'd love them forever! Didn't need more than 3 songs to know!
Those 3 songs were: Are you there, Fragile dreams & A dying wish.
I'll suggest one of my favorite Anathema tracks: A Simple Mistake
Thats a pretty cool idea :) I get this sad emotional Vibes from the Song like in many Katatonia Songs, just more agressive. I recommended them before. Katatonia is know for their incredibly harmonic melodic e-guitars. I think i recommended "old Heart falls" and "Takeover".
Jim, must try Anathema which showcase their evolution:
Fragile Dreams
Distant Satellites

Good to hear from you Marcin! Yes, they're an amazing band. Incredible evolution of their sound.

A Paradise Lost reaction would be greatly appreciated, Jim.
Edit: And the 1st version of the song is definitely more up my alley.
A very interesting video, I definitely appreciate you did both versions of the song, I love how openly you approach music!
They also did the same to their song named Crestfallen
This is excelent. Loved this one. :) If you're willing to go down this path, as some viewers already wrote here, you should try My Dying Bride and Katatonia.

Agreed. Beautiful and very powerful album.
Love the original version. Jim maybe you could give My dying bride a chance soon "the dreadful hour" our "the light at the end of the world" would be nice but I'll let you pick . Love the channel keep up the good work.
Why would he react to his own band?
More goth and doom metal please. Terrific. Thanks for suggestion.
:) excellent Jim, didn't know Anathema... another another another for the must-do list!
Sunset of age one of my favorite song from early Anathema. Masterpiece
Intoxicating. This atmosphere. I don't usually choose this subgenre when I want to listen to metal, but it always gets me. Liked the first more. Would you give 'Cyborg Octopus: Baptism of Clay' a try? Some proggy technical death.
I might! I might! 👍🏻😁
you can find simmilar changes in bands like katatonia (by the way, one of the best bands in the world :P)

Your earlier remarks about them not being more widely played on radio is still relevant. Is there no specialist Prog station?
Glad to see your channel growing Jim, I get to see you play some of my favorite music plus learn some new great ones as well. If I may ask what is your profession? Cheers from Miami, Florida.

i like the new Version way more :D
Felidrummer1 Old version is real Anathema. FOREVER SEARCHING !!!
You really need to listen to more Death.
Voice of the Soul is an excellent choice.
Yup, I probably do!
Try the band "The Gathering"
Its now simply time to do cassandra gemini. Weve been waiting. Trust in us

This sounds like exactly the sort of thing that I'd do! Definitely like to listen to music from everywhere!
Talking of stoner metal. Matt Pike is in sleep and the frontman of high on fire. Snakes Divine is a great song.
Excelente band, are extinted to day for pandemy?
Sadly they are no longer a band, but Weather Systems is the continuation of Anathema and releasing music soon.
The music of the first one is ok, but singing isn't quite to my taste. You've done so many, but have you checked out Hallatar? Finnish doom - two happy words, that describe us perfectly! :oD
The second song is very much as heavy as the first version, but singing was more airy. Definitely better this one.

Finnish..... Doom...... now that's not something that REALLY exists is it???? 😉😜🤣
@@JimNewstead hahaha
Actually, some of my favorite Doom bands are from Finland... Shape Of Despair, Swallow The Sun, Hallatar, Rapture.
