Hi, I am a Norwegian married to a girl from Fortaleza, I work in Norway and we have been visiting each other for almost 10 years. Now we have bought a plot of land in Euserbio, building a house. My wife shows me videos you have on RUclips, new houses and ideas, but for a Norwegian I am surprised by how family houses are designed, for me, it looks more like a hotel, public building, a clinic or art gallery. The use of so many hard materials in the interior, stone, ceramic tiles, glass and metal, the massive height under the ceiling, very high doors and windows, for me this does not match a family house that should be a nice, warm and safe atmosphere, these houses you show are cold to me despite the fantastic climate you have here in Fortaleza. Another side, no insulation, single-glazed windows, entrance doors with large gaps between the frame and the door, I mention this with regard to the use of air conditioning. I see that this is the style of building in the area, so those of you who live here obviously like this, but for me it is difficult, I am from a different culture in terms of what a family house should be and quality standards. We have some heated discussions about the design of the house, poor architect who is supposed to help us, we have not found him yet. Roy.
Hey Roy, I’m from Fortaleza but live in the UK now. It’s nothing like Norway, of course, but it’s a different culture with its own unique architectural styles nonetheless. I totally get where you’re coming from in your comment because I feel the same way-but the opposite! Lol. In Brazil, we usually have large families and love having everyone around. So, having a big house with high ceilings to make it feel more spacious is something we really value in our culture. As for design styles, contemporary modern houses are quite popular in Fortaleza at the moment. But of course, it’s entirely up to you to choose the style you want for your home. This channel has showcased some beautiful neoclassical houses, as well as cosier homes like this one by the beach: ruclips.net/video/ol4UvMgWLOs/видео.htmlsi=CXvl6Ukwn_Y0y-Ep Anyway, I just wanted to say that I can relate to your perspective. For me, it’s hard to understand why houses here are so small-it’s often called “cosy,” but to me, it feels like there’s just not enough space. It’s not only about storage; it’s also about having room for family and friends to stay over and for my kids to run around. I do understand it’s a much smaller country with less space though. In Brazil, we don’t really have the luxury of feeling 100% safe when spending quality time outdoors in parks or markets, for example (which is something I absolutely love about living here). Because of that, it’s only natural that we prefer having a big enough house where we can spend lots of time without feeling cramped, when we can afford. I hope this helps a bit in understanding our mindset and how our culture influences our design preferences. I’m sure you’ll find an architect who can design a home that suits both you and your wife! It might be worth messaging Project Arquitetos to see what they can do for you. Cheers! P.S. I didn’t comment on your technical insights as I’m not really familiar with those. I just wanted to explain the cultural differences. I’m sure a good architect would be able to explain the reasons behind all the technical differences.
