  • At Tsu Festival in central Japan, these demon horse riders have a long history of terrifying children (and often adults). "Shago-uma" riders might be unique to Tsu Matsuri, but similar scary traditions are common throughout the country.
    So while Halloween may not be widely celebrated here, Japan's creepy, occult culture and folklore have a long history -- since before there was an event called "Halloween" to speak of.
