I've flown that airplane! The caption is spot on, they don't get much smaller at all. The baby Great Lakes will make a Pitts S1 look big. The tail wheel is lockable so for takeoff and landing is tracks quite straight. For 85 HP the baby lakes gets up and goes with exceptional climb performance. Be ready when you pull back the throttle because this little bipe comes down as fast as it goes up. All in all, fun airplane to fly and glad I had the chance to fly one.
Haha, a little twitchy on the ground....I like that. Looks like a blast to fly. I can't believe the g forces this thing can take. Amazing little plane. You are living my dream Earl.
Very nice Baby Great lakes I designed ,built a plane similar to it. Called the Lakester. 582 Rotax. Sold it...now building Ed Fisher ...lil Bits Pitts Special using 1832cc VW engine. These small Bi-Planes Are cheap and fast For the money.
Capt Larry Linkage is hanging loose. I have seen alternating comments about twitchiness of the Smith Miniplane as well. I have to wonder if there is a tracking problem with the landing gear?
+CHOPPERGIRL AIRWAR The Bumblebee is a lot smaller but it's barely flyable, built only to make the smallest plane record, and then retired. The Baby Lakes is a popular sport plane, with many flying.

Just a great plane and thanks to taking us around the pattern.

Beautiful little plane. Well done video.
Great video, nice to watch. I have finishing a Baby Lakes project. I hope to flying next year.
Would be nice to have one !
*Sweet....*
Looks like a lot of constant right rudder!
With some of the taller pilots, their heads are so high, I wonder if they need to look over the top of the wing instead of under it?
If the linkage to my tailwheel was that slack and floppy, my ground handling would be twitchy too !

I too have a baby lakes. I like the curve of the windscreen. Mine is flat and the wind noise is incredible! Where are you located?
Just to add a bit a scale, can someone tell me how tall Earl was or is if he's still with us.
lots of go arounds there
I dream about building a replica of a dc 10 or so in that size... Would be so... handy:)
Is there a website I could go to for a kit build?
Starr Bumblebee is a lot smaller ;)
Lucky for me I didn't title the video "absolutely the smallest airplane ever built" ;-)

The 'Bumblebee' is a show plane that is flown only occasionally. While this type of biplane can be flown every day WO strain.
CHOPPERGIRL's AIRWAR → I *think* you've been *corrected*...《grin》
Nice plane! Check out our biplane adventures! 1979 homemade biplane..
