  • Check out my new ragtop on my 1969 VW Beetle. Installing the kit was pretty easy, although it didn't come with instructions. I found a helpful video from the company BRITAX, but it was in Portuguese. Despite the language barrier, it was the only guide I had.
    We started by setting up the black frame on top of the car, which helped us with measurements. Once we marked all our spots, we cut the roof. Although I was nervous, we managed to cut it off without any problems.
    After removing the roof, we put the black frame back on the car and added the chrome rails on top. Then we installed the tan-colored ragtop, which will complement the car's future paint color.
    We encountered a small issue with the latch, which made it impossible to shut the ragtop completely. After some adjustments, everything fell into place, and we finished the installation.
    If you're interested in this modification for your car, check the link below and let me know if you have any questions about the installation.

      Hey! Thank you for checking out the video. I really appreciate you guys supporting this project. As you know, I've been working on it for many years, and it's nice to see it come together slowly. I did the safari window last week, so paint is right around the corner.

    I think you are the only Cali guy that has a video on the aftermarket RAG install awesome I wouldn't do it to my 67 bug I'm restoring, but I would definitely do it to a 69 or 70 bug

      I had a hard time finding a video showing the installation, as all I could find were in Brazilian Portuguese. I hope this video helps others when installing a ragtop on their Volkswagens. Hopefully, my next project will be an early model bug with an OEM ragtop.

      yep, it gives a whole different look to my project. I made it look easy, but I was stressing behind the scenes, especially when I was ready to cut the roof off. You should definitely get one.

    awesome , I have a 69 I'm building now. Plan on putting a rag top in so this was good to see that not that difficult. I already put my safari in and I think I know who you are talking about. He clearly says this isn't his main job LOL and it could take a while. The company I got mine fron has his initials of his company but not sure if it is a knock off or not , as the locks are on the side and not the bottom. look forward to more videos

      Great! It was a bit challenging to install, but I would recommend taking your time to understand all the steps to ensure the final product turns out right. I almost regretted getting them from him, but I installed the kit last week and it turned out really good, so I can't complain about the product. However, I do know that other companies provide the same kit. Mine has the locking latches on the side too. The reason they have them on the side is because the later models of the bugs have padding on the dashboard, compared to the early models where the dash is straight metal.

    I love how the rag top looks but I was wondering
    Does the rain stay out? Especially when driving. I just don’t see how the rag is closed tight enough
    Glad you’re taking your time and doing it right!

    • @oscar_dubs
      @oscar_dubs  Месяц назад +2

      Not a stupid question at all, as I was wondering the same thing when planning to do the conversion myself. I've read online and talked to people at shows about it, and my conclusion is that yes, the ragtop will leak. When the car is stationary, the water won't leak, but if you are driving at high speeds on the freeway, there might be a small place where water will leak. This also applies to the safari windshield. These are the small little problem that come with it.

      I installed my Brazilian ragtop in 5 years ago and I've had zero leaks in the rain even going over 80. No problem with the snow either I just make sure to brush it off. Mine is canvas and I use 303 water repellant which works wonders! They are a great addition and well worth the money

    Dubs! What’s crackin’ dude? 8 months is way too long. Shoulda been one month max?! Why so long. Honestly I’m not a big fan of safari windows on bugs, only buses. I would get my money back and use it for other parts. I would also put dude on blast for taking so damn long. He probably is stealing your money. Anyways top looks good. Nice job!

    • @oscar_dubs
      @oscar_dubs  Месяц назад

      I'm not sure why it takes so long, but the guy who sells the kit clearly states that it will take months to deliver the products. He mentioned around 3-4 months, but I ended up waiting almost 6-7 months, which is a pretty crazy turnaround time. The product itself was of very high quality. I don't want to expose him, but I simply want to share my experience with others. Thank you. The next huge step is to install the safari windshield kit, and then we have to get back to prepping the car for paint.
