    Nice!! Love the reclaimed wood on the window sills. The passive energy design is awesome, I wish all houses were built that way. Also looking forward to seeing more of the Hyper Adobe home build!

      Thanks! The pond has had water in it all summer. Our grand-dog loves to take a dip and come shake the water off on us. 😄 Our daughter swam in it last year, but this year there were a whole lot of Sonoran Desert Toads in it right away, and they are poisonous. 🐸
      Yes, we are getting there! ❤️😊

      😎 Thanks for checking out our channel! Earthships homes are a lot of work to build, but nice to live in I'm sure! We have always wanted a good sized piece of family land, so this has been great, and I am surprised by how much we love living in the desert! 😊🏜️

    Red the house is looking amazing. Nice to see you changed the dryer vent to rigid pipe but you made another major mistake installing. You should not have used screws. They catch the lint and build up to a blockage. Foil tape on the joints only.

      We would love to add some tanks, but it's all so expensive, maybe eventually. For now we are directing the water to new trees, and we want to add more swales and ponds when we get a chance. 🧡🏜️

    • @RedandAprilOff-Grid

      It's about 12 years old and has been used a lot. The blades have been replaced many time and everything is worn out on it. We are getting close, thanks! 😊

    just a heads up, you should never use screws to join dryer pipe, only tape. the reason is that lint will collect and can be a fire hazard.

    • @RedandAprilOff-Grid
      @RedandAprilOff-Grid  Год назад +2

      Thanks! I guess a lot can go wrong when installing a dryer vent. 😄 We should have looked it up.

      @@RedandAprilOff-Grid I would hate to hear about a dryer fire in a couple months/years.. Would you be able to provide some solar updates in your videos please? I bet that I am not the only one who would be interested in regular updates on how it is handling your needs. Are you having to run a Generator at all? How long is it taking before you are fully recharged every day? how much power are you getting in full sun in winter vs summer? how about the shady days? Things that you would do different. Thanks. PS the off grid nature of your journey is what brought me here in the first place, and it's really the main reason I subscribed. Cheers, thanks

    • @RedandAprilOff-Grid
      @RedandAprilOff-Grid  Год назад

      Thanks, I plan to hang the laundry to dry, but it's nice to have the option. This video has a solar update, there's not much else to report, and right now our focus is on building the house. We can run power tools all day without any issues, even when it's partly cloudy. It is rare to get a completely cloudy day out here. The only time we ever use the generator is for the welder. We have a maximum of 3,000 watts per leg, so we we need to watch out for that. The table saw when it's working hard, uses up to 2,500 watts, so we have to make sure nothing else is running on that leg at the same time. We don't have any need to monitor the system carefully, because it's running everything we need it to without any issues. We don't run heavy use electric equipment at night, so our batteries are easily staying charged until morning. Red will probably be installing a second set of batteries before winter, because we have some family coming, and it will be nice to have some extra battery storage in the winter. 🌥️🏜️

    So smart not to poke holes in your roof or ceiling.

  • @actionfaktory
    @actionfaktory Год назад

    How high are the ceilings on each side? And what pitch is the roof.. looks amazing and I'm about to build something very similar.. my architect has almost 16ft ceilings on the one side and 9ft on the low side

    • @RedandAprilOff-Grid
      @RedandAprilOff-Grid  Год назад +1

      Ours is 8 ft on the low side and 10ft on the high side. The roof is a low pitch 12 to 1. We didn't want the house too tall for efficiency and ease of building. Best wishes on your build, sounds like nice tall ceilings! 🙂

    Evaporative coolers are very nice in dry weather but will do absolutely nothing for the cooling your home down when it’s humid

    • @RedandAprilOff-Grid
      @RedandAprilOff-Grid  Год назад +1

      When it's humid, it will still drop the temperature a few degrees, but when the humidity inside gets over 60%, it's more comfortable without it.
