    I wanna thank this video for helping me pass my class b with air breaks today. I learned more from this video than I did in my driving school. Very clear with pointing out each part, and simple to understand. Thanks for making this. This was huge for me to pass today.

    Mike was very patient with me during my pre-trip and In Cab / Air brakes test, even though I failed the skills test because I was nervous, but I’m going back within couple weeks to complete the rest of the CDL exam.
    I definitely will refer anyone I know who wanted to be succeed on their truck driver career. SMG is the place to go guys

      During the testing, the examiner will be grading your knowledge. They will expect you to be able to complete a pre-trip without coaching.

    I have a serious question and I need an answer within the next two days before I take my test. I am a previous CDL holder of close to 10 years I am retaking the test for class b. In this video you said 60 PSI when fanning the brakes. I recently failed a pre-trip inspection because the instructor said it was 50 psi and I said 55 psi. According to my States handbook It says 55 PSI. So what is the real answer is it 50, 55, or 60 PSI for the warning light and signal???

    • @smgtrucking
      @smgtrucking  Год назад +2

      In the video, we state between 55-60 PSI. That is not wrong, but it is now more accurate to say, "The low air warning should sound before it reaches 55 PSI."

    • @cbCONCRETEPUMPER
      @cbCONCRETEPUMPER Год назад

      @@smgtrucking yeah I was failed I initially said 55 to 60 and then the guy looked at me funny and I said I meant to say 55. He said it doesn't matter I'm failing you right now because it's supposed to be 50 psi
      This was at prosafe CDL in Indianapolis

    I heard a lot of verbage has changed, like you no longer say 120 psi but 55 or something. Is there an updated video on the verbage of the pre-trip?

    • @smgtrucking
      @smgtrucking  Год назад

      @LadyMocha, the verbiage in this video is not wrong, but you are right, there are "more correct" ways to state them. Our latest video, a Truck/Trailer Class A w/Air (pintle hitch), does have those more correct ways stated. Here is the recap portion of that new video that contains those "more correct" statements. Keep in mind (important), for a Class B, the system cannot lose more than 3 pounds of pressure, and not the four pounds stated in this Class A video in this link (the extra pound is for the connected trailer with air brakes): ruclips.net/video/vGIbB6U5dTc/видео.htmlsi=z09pOlMMQrYkLvLf&t=2328
      I apologize for the delay in answering!

      The Pre-Trip inspection requirements should be the same nationwide. The backing maneuver requirements during the Skills Test may be somewhat different, for example, Florida does not require parallel parking during the CDL skills test. For Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT), no matter what state, you would have to demonstrate proficiency in all backing maneuvers, including parallel parking. ELDT and all its requirements (theory and Behind the wheel) are required federally -- the CDL Skills tests may still have small differences from state to state as I mentioned. I hope that makes sense.

    There is rust. So if you say no rust do you still pass? Or if you say there is rust then what?? All have rust unless it's brand new.

    • @smgtrucking
      @smgtrucking  Год назад

      When doing the test, you can say there is rust, but when you are completing the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Pre-Trip Inspection Skills Test, with the exception of the In Cab, Engine Start and Air Brake Check, you do NOT have to physically demonstrate the actual checks (e.g., pull the oil dip stick or actually use a pressure gauge to check the tire pressure), but you must name and point to or touch each item, and fully explain the reason for inspecting the item (you must ensure the tester knows what you are referring to). You will be graded on whether you know what to check each part for.
      During real life pre and post trip inspections when you find a discrepancy or defect (As taught in Module Four of the Entry Level Driver Training), you must fill out a DVIR and submit it to your motor carrier.
