    The Flex Seal keeping the shield together makes me think of how windshields stay together due to usually being two panes of glass sandwiching a layer of plastic lamination. If something like this existed back in the day I could see somebody deciding to make shields that way.

    A couple of things on how to improve this test:
    1. Use a crossbow for more consistent arrow damage
    2. The test should've been to smash the plain wooden one to pieces, then flex seal the pieces into a cohesive shield to match the solid plank with flex seal coat, and then see if the flex seal repair job made it better than a plain wooden shield and at least close to a wooden shield with a coat of flex seal, or if it somehow was even better than that

    • @maximusjoseppi5904
      @maximusjoseppi5904 Год назад +2

      Modern body armor has a totally different objective than medieval armor along with different levels depending on the expected threat. Some is made for handgun calibers out of kevlar, which a knife sword or arrow would go right through. It's meant to flatten a small lead ball, not an edged or pointed weapon.
      Others are made for rifle calibers which are made out of steel if it's cheap or fancy composites which would stop all of the above if hit straight on. Modern armor only covers center mass vitals though because being able to move quickly and fluidly and not being shot in the first place is better than stopping a bullet.
      Modern armor is also only meant to work once and then it's integrity is compromised and it needs to be replaced.

    • @robertsmith4681
      @robertsmith4681 Год назад

      @@maximusjoseppi5904 That's kind of the point, the threat has changed and thus the requirements of armor have changed in order to be optimized to 21st century threats.

    The content is actually gotten better because Shad is talking to someone else more often and its a bit more natural feeling than talking to the camera. In this video, it also feels like Tyranth is the disciple Shad is training seeking the most approval from his master and can't wait to show his progress and his ideas while Nate is the older more reserved disciple getting dragged into the hijinks of the other over eager one. In other videos, Shad still has the solo presenter set up that still works well as it always has. As far as the guest presenter the other day, Shad did a good job picking him to work with. In a way it reminds me of the older videos where Metatron would present east vs west differences like Bushido vs Chivalry and differences in castles on Shadiversity so it was weirdly familiar feeling. You have a presenter that maybe you don't know but certainly seems capable coming on and proving himself with a solo presentation. And the final bonus is the content is getting a quicker turn around too. Shad definitely made the right call here for both him and the channel. The health stuff I can't speak on because I don't know what is helping or not. Hopefully, stepping back gets him either more time with his family or more time to work on the book since he won't be too wrecked by doing 100 percent of the physical stuff himself.

    When Shad was making predictions on how the Katana would cut less I knew it was actually flipped especially when it comes to wood. At least that's what I predicted given that woodcutting axes have a more significant angle specifically to split the wood. I just thought it would carry over. But that's just my guess

    You know, now I actually want to see what would happen if they took a medieval made shield, sprayed it with Flex Seal, and then covered that with Raw Hide. How strong would the resulting shield be? What kinda damage could it survive?

    • @rayzuke1232
      @rayzuke1232 Год назад +2

      The best thing about Flex seal would be you can apply it to pretty much every single piece of armor. On top the shield was only covered from 1 side. It would become even stronger if it gets a full 360 treatment and on top you can have multiple layers of flexseal. And the best thing about it is that it hardly weights anything and yet achieves results. Flex seal would literally be the upgrade armor magic that would have been as much of a key player as bronze compared to iron and later steel.

    The best part about rubber applicants like Flex Seal is that you can build up layers.
    So you could continue to work that shield until there was an inch of flex seal there.
    I think a sandwich, with two wood layers and seal in the middle, would be a more solid construction.

    I've never seen anyone draw a bow quite like shad does. Of course I'm mostly used to seeing folks use compound bows, but even when I've used a recurve I don't remember anyone drawing like that.

    Honestly it would be nice to see a revisit to this topic but using the various flex seals products aside from the spray like flex tape and the liquid can as well as seeing the difference in thickness to see how effective it could be.

    Looking at the arrow damage on the one without the Flexseal that's where most of the splitering was happening

    Just a helpful pointer- (I couldn't hear your name over my screaming toddler, I'm sorry, but) guy in the red shirt, you're dropping your bow arm too fast after releasing your shot- hold the bow steady after letting fly until you hear the arrow strike, then drop the bow. You'll find your shots bunching up a bit tighter, more often. :)

    I'm curious if flex sealing a wood bow would increase the resistance of the draw increasing the power of the shot.
