The reality is that lethal injection is done as cheap as possible and not as humanely as possible. The goal is potassium poisoning which is a very extended process, first the heart stops and then you slowly lose consciousness. All the while, liquid fire is in your veins. Part of the reason is because the original thought was that lethal injection should be painful and deeply unpleasant to make an example of the condemned.
Firing squad is the only form of execution that is 100% efficient compared to other forms. Other forms either don’t work entirely or allow the person to die slowly while firing squad is always immediate/ the person is dead in under a minute

He was killed by firing squad by his own lifelong friends who joined with him.

Instead of a human officer burdened with firing a gun at the condemned prisoner, an automatic, self-firing device should be installed on a gun stand to pull the trigger, which would eliminate any human error and possible guilty conscience.
