Randomized New Worlds can be pretty crazy sometimes. It's super rare and you need to set high chance for fantasy nations, but you can actually get things like Norse Vikings or High American nations sometimes, which would go for a really cool playthough idea, I think.

I think Random New World could be really intriguing if it were done right. Like playing as a European coloniser and instead of immediately having a meta "ok so Florida is here, Brazil is here, etc." you truly are exploring a new world for the first time and have no idea what it's going to be like

    • @Qureas

I've done that a few times and the exploration can be quite fun then. However trade routes are almost always completely fucked which ruins Europe's economy and you won't find that out until you've explored everything and are 150 years in. Also every nation with a mission tree involving colonization is fucked.

So, as someone who bought this game because of you and Hawk, and who spent 300 hours in the new world because I'm a Canuck and too proud to admit defeat to the Spanish, allow me to explain how Tribal dev works in simple terms.
Every month, you gain tribal dev randomly in one or more of your three types (Admin, Diplo, Mil. obviously)
The amount you gain is modified by any modifiers you have (building that grants it, Federation policy that grants more, government policy that grants more, or grazing in tribal land that isn't yours - this is the biggest modifier you can get, so you're encouraged to migrate in the lands of other tribes, which gives them a CB)
When you swap to settled tribe, you can settle your tribal development. You can choose to settle it in either multiple provinces to own more land, or you can choose to dump it all into one province.
In the meantime, when you aren't settled, your tribal dev travels with you and becomes the dev value of whatever tile you occupy.
If you swap to horde without spending your tribal dev by settling, you lose all of it.
You can still go horde if you settle less than two cities after swapping to settled tribe, meaning you can dump all of your dev into the two best provinces you own, then swap over, if you like.
    Hope this helps.

    • @ee822
      @ee822 6 месяцев назад +40

The lack of updates to the mechanic have severely damaged it. Several mission trees straight up break and the number of provinces is tuned based on what the Americas had back in 2010 rather than the current province count, trade zones, and the like. This means you end up missing several hundred provinces and the trade zones end up too big. Additionally, the number of shapes that a continent can possess are pretty limited so Random New Worlds can feel a bit samey after some time. There's also a tendency for it to generate the landmasses pretty far out there, which messes with the Colonial game because the ranges for that can easily end up too short.
It's a nice feature, just needs more polish to it.

Playing EU2 as a kid I learned a lot of geography through the game (I remember playing with an atlas on my lap). But as an experienced player on EU4 you know where everything is and can make a dash straight for the prime new world spots- this gives the human a big unfair advantage and ruins the feel of the game.

RNW is only so bad because it's implemented poorly with shitty sized states and broken trade nodes, but the concept is really fun, I enjoy playing with it on. There was a mod that used to mostly fix it but idk if it's still maintained.

I love Random New World, easily one of the most neglected features, but it adds a lot of replayability.

Honestly I like random generation since it can give you lots of RP content, also it feels like you're playing Anbennar...

Honestly i'd click this button and play as Portugal or england or castile, and just RP as if i just found a brand new world. It's very fun

Would be cool if you could randomize the nations of the New World with the preexisting Americas landmass.

Random new world is great if you are playing as a colonizing Nation that historically didn't colonize much if at all. It also tends to dramatically weaken the historical European powers that did colonize quite a bit. Just make sure you deal with the Ottomans before they roll over Europe though.

it sort of reduces the opness of knowing the americas beforehand, like real people already know how the Americas look and where to colonize where they shouldn't in the 1400s

Basically unplayable since it is badly implemented but with the right mods that fix it it's super fun.
