Here's my hot take: Roger Craig Smith isn't a bad Sonic voice actor. He's just been given the wrong direction how to voice the character. Listening to him in Team Sonic Racing, Twitter Takeovers, and the TailsTube episodes really let him settle into the role. It was just rough considering he was put during the "Meta Era" of Sonic titles and it was during this point they changed the tone of the Sonic franchise.
@Z- Your opinion. When I grew up, people were complaining about Jason Griffith's voice as much as people are complaining about Roger. I'm sure if someone asked Jason about the backlash he got voicing Sonic, he'd tell you. Now, he's beloved. At the end of the day, it's the character that accompanies the voice and we're just getting through the seams of that. Whether it's Sonic from the 90's cartoon, the movie, the game, Prime, or other, the voice is only half of what makes Sonic the character he is.
@@TheIDcard123 yeah I’ve watched enough Jason interviews to know he got threats just for being the new VA. I liked Ryan and Jason both instantly but Roger still to this day 12 years later doesn’t do it for me personally. I prefer the more cartoonish energetic voice with more emotion that they used to give. Roger feels so monotoned in the majority of his appearances. For the voice of Sonic the hedgehog he just doesn’t do it justice
@Z- Yet I've seen the cartoonish energy Roger can give. Even if you excuse Boom in its entirety, there's still the aforementioned titles I listed as well as Rise of the Wisps animated short where I think Roger does a great job conveying Sonic's laid back, but heroic side as well as his upbeat energy. At the end of the day, I believe it's just the direction that's given and personal opinion. Everyone's gonna have different takes and there's also a lot of younger fans who grew up with Roger as their Sonic. Or newcomers to the series from the movies where Ben Schwartz is the voice of Sonic. Or now with Prime, where Deven Mack are people's choice for a Sonic voice. The voice is just a voice. It's down to what you think carries Sonic's spirit in his character, line delivery, and actions, and I believe that Roger, when given a proper script that understands the character, delivers that.

I don't consider them to be necessarily on the same level. I just consider them all to be some of the worst Sonic games I've played. The storybook games are great in every aspect but I just can't stand the gameplay in either of them.
@@Matthasnocuts Even Black Knight? I understand for Secret Rings, yes, the gameplay is total dogshit, but Black Knight? What makes the gameplay so bad that it's on your bottom tier? Sure, the game is on rails but at least its functional and doesn't make you want to pull your hair out like Secret Rings. I don't know how some people acting like both of the storybook gameplay are the same when one is fully functional while the other you are controlling a drunken Sonic.
I would've agreed with you on hyper Sonic up until Frontiers. If they keep the same formula of super Sonic appearing in multiple bosses throughout the game, it'd be neat to see a further transformation for the final boss to make the final boss feel more special.
i do not think theyre gonna keep the formula of super sonic appearing for every boss, i think thats jsut something that was specific to frontiers because of how integral the islands were to the emeralds history and also i just would not want them to overuse super sonic, i feel like itd be very easy to make it feel not special anymore
I think Frontiers was an isolated experience in having Super Sonic boss battles in succession like that. The story allowed the chaos emeralds to gather and disperse on every Starfall Island for that formula to work. Can't see that working in a future title without a contrived reason and stripping other characters from participating in the action and having agency.
I could imagine something like sonic could have an second transformation that have ability's that super sonic don't have but also don't have some ability that super sonic have and they hyper could have all of the ability of both transformation
My hotake is I don’t have a standard setting for Sonic. Whether it be realistic, Sonic like or even Mario like environments. I just think Sonic fits in anywhere so it never bothered me seeing him in settings Lost World or 06.
I cant agree with the 06 thing, having plasticy cartoon animals next to realistic looking humans is so jarring. Unleashed was the best way of handing humans and mobians together and i wish theyd bring that back, the only way i could picture a realistic world with the mobians is if they model the fur like movie sonic

I finally played Lost World for the first time yesterday and after beating it, I still have no idea how to feel about it. It's not bad, it's not mid, it's not great. It was just an experience. That's pretty much it for me.
It feels more like a Nintendo game with Sonic, and fun fact: If Lost World was a success every Sonic Game would’ve followed that formula essentially making Sonic a Mario Ripoff.
The one hot take I will talk about is that Amy might've been one of the ONLY characters that might've gotten better in the 2010's. Almost everyone else got worse though...
Even hotter take: I think she kinda got worse, the fans and some of the writers misunderstand so much of her character. I want Amy to be more like Adventure and IDW, not like Boom where that seems to be the common opinion.
@@BlueBlur2003 Adventure and IDW... I never got to experience those yet. And I only have vague memories of Boom at the moment. So I was only thinking of how she was mishandled after Heroes and got lost the obsession part of her feelings for Sonic.
@@seasidehhill I like her a lot in Frontiers but I miss how energetic she was, it made sense though in that game cause she saw creatures die in front of her and was stuck in Cyberspace. In the end though you see her old self come back a bit so hopefully in the next game they will follow that.
My hot take is that as an experience, sonic frontiers is the best sonic game of all time. From the open zones, combat, bosses, story and even cyberspace it got me so invested in the world that no other sonic game has done before. Might not be the highest quality sonic game, that goes to unleashed and gens and it is rough around the edges, but overall, it is the best experience you can get from a sonic game.
About the Super Sonic hot take, there could be a way to have a new Sonic form that stays in line with Super Sonic. Theorized in SA1, since Sonic uses positive Emerald energy to go Super, the chaos should be balanced with the existence of a negative Super form. This technically gives Sonic a "new form" while still staying Super

I only got two that cross my mind; 1. Is that Mephlies isn’t as great as he’s made out to be (he’s kind of an idiot). 2. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is the best Knuckles story. Mephlies I think is great in some regards, specifically his interactions with Shadow. But for a while I’ve seen him being held on this pedestal and praised as the best Sonic villain ever. But why? Most of the time, people say it’s because he killed Sonic. Which like, yeah, he did. But to me it’s the reason behind it. What’s Mephlies’ ultimate goal? Reunite with Iblis and become Solaris again. How is he going to do this? Get Elise to cry so she releases the flames of disaster. So he tricks Silver and Blaze to go back in time and kill Sonic. A good number of things wrong with this. Why Silver and Blaze? What about them makes him think “Hey, I should send them back in time to kill Sonic.” Does he not like working that hard? I mean he ends up doing the job himself, so what’s the point? In fact, he doesn’t need to kill Sonic or get involved with Silver. All he has to do is time travel to when Elise dies aboard Eggman’s crashing ship. OH WAIT! He doesn’t need to time travel because Iblis already exists in the future! Merge with him there! Mephlies is an idiot for having this weirdly complicated plan that ultimately doesn’t play out the way he’ll think. Onto the more positive part. Even though The Dark Brotherhood’s story is centered on Sonic, I think it’s the best Knuckles story. It gives him a conflict that I find really intriguing; side with his people, the ones he thought to be gone, or choose his duty as the guardian of the Master Emerald, as he always has. Even though it doesn’t feel like his decision took long towards the final fight against Ix, you can tell Knuckles has been struggling with the idea of fighting back against his own race, since he’s no longer the last of his kind. It’s just, as much a he’d want to accept them, he knows he can’t because they’re fighting for a cause he doesn’t believe in. And when Shade finds out about Ix’s true intentions, it becomes even more clear what he needs to do. Which ultimately leads to the final battle where when Ix grants Knuckles that ultimatum, Knuckles has his answer at the ready before the question’s asked. It paints him in a new light that I don’t think many other stories have.
I think the reason why people love mephiles is bc he just kind of does all of this just for the fun of it. To manipulate silver, attempt to have shadow join him, kill sonic, and release the flames of disater from Elise. He craves power and destruction because he finds it comical. That's why he just straight up laughs after sonic dying. I think people just like a villain that's just nothing but evil as hell. I can understand why it wouldn't make sense, because mephiles isnt exactly the most multi layered, understandable villain. He's just the kind that makes a hobby out of controlling things his own way. This isnt really something we seen in a sonic villain before excluding eggman. unless you wanna count shadow. His plan doesn't make sense, sure but i feel like it doesn't have to. because his whole purpose is to just be a evil prick for the fun of it.

Here are some hot takes I have: -Sandopolis is my favorite level in Sonic 3 and Knuckles -Sonic 4 Episode 2, is legit a really freaking good game and better than Sonic 2. -I like Colors Ultimate more than the original -Sonic Forces is kind of fun when you try to get better at it and master it (most notably, I feel like people don't try the time missions of these levels, because everyone talks about how easy it is to get S rank in that game, but not how the time missions are generally way harder) -The Cyber Space levels are really fun, and I had almost zero problems with the Cyber Space controls. In fact, Cyber Space MIGHT end up as my favorite part of the game as I play it more and more.

Yeah, after replaying the games in Origins when it came out, CD quickly became my favourite of the bunch. Idk, certain charm about it, and felt the best designed of the bunch for me.
@muniryka4911It’s a better game with widescreen. I still think the level designs towards the end are just awful, though. Everything about that game’s overall presentation is exceptional, and it’s got interesting ideas, but the level design screws it. Still a good game that gets too much hate nowadays (likely because it was so overrated for years).
Hot take: sonic frontiers is not top 5 sonic games, it’s good and a good direction for the series but it’s quite unpolished and cannot outdo many of the other sonic games, I like it but I feel like everyone is so quick to jump to calling it “the GOAT” despite its unpolished and unfinished islands and gameplay.
I respect your opinion but even if its unfinished or unpolished (all fault of sega rushing sonic team), theres this type of fun that i felt in frontiers that i dont feel in most sonic games or almost no sonic game, idk its just super fun. Its also the first sonic i 100%

My hot take is that Tail Adventure needs a sequel or a Tails Adventure X Sonic CD and yes, Lost World was really fun ( and I'm one of the old persons here.... then again I'm a big fan of the game gear games which apparently is controversial too lol )
Colors, Generations, and Frontiers being superior to Unleashed is a pretty warm take. Unleashed is a very divisive game, you have one side of the fanbase that loves it and the other side that doesn't. Colors and Generations however (and Frontiers to an extent) are loved by the majority of the Sonic fanbase and even gamers outside of the fanbase. I think Colors, Generations, and Frontiers are simply more accessible and easier to pick up and play compared to Unleashed. Sonic Unleashed is more difficult, and the werehog is controversial and very divisive among fans. The other three titles don't have any gimmicks like the werehog that drastically change the gameplay and pace.
I don’t know how much of a hot take this is but my hot take would be the Sonic OVA is the coolest portrayal of Sonic and the gang counting all the cartoons and movies, outside the games obv.
I like Forces, SATBK, Lost World, Shadow game, the DS version of Colors (the wii ver is kinda mid for me). Hot takes in this community go crazy. Great vid by the way! Extra: The BEST 2D Sonic game of all time is obviously...Advance 2, of course it is.
My HOT TAKE is that Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) is not as bad as people make it out to be. You'd swear STH killed someone's dog with how much people hate it, but I always found it to not be anywhere near games like Boom or Forces. The gun play keeps the player moving and makes enemy encounters less pace breaking than in Heroes, the rail grinding is better and picks up more speed when doing the tricks, Shadow's slippery controls aren't as bad as people say since a lot of the platforms are wider than the Heroes' platforms that had players flying off to there deaths, the level design is...OK its either really basic or super confusing but the kill 'X' amount of enemies were nowhere near as hard to do as the Chaotix missions in Heroes, and getting the A ranks in the game are pretty forgiving unlike other Sonic games where you have to beat the stage without dying, with a high enough score, a fast enough time, and a a good Ring bonus(looking at you 06). Also the music SLAPS and cutscenes in the game are really cheesy but also really engaging. I also feel that Shadow's portrayal in the game is not as damaging as people say it is, the games made sure that Shadow is canonically seen as the hero in the True Ending, the president sees Shadow as a hero just like Sonic, and even a GUN troop says to the GUN Commander 'Isn't Shadow on our side?'. The games story structure also allows for several moments of Shadow's over the top Edginess to be taken out of the events of the story - So Shadow may have never villainously stolen the Chaos Emerald saying 'This is like taking candy from a baby', but he may have also said played through 'Lost Impact' after racing Sonic in 'Space Gadget'. With how Shadow would become in the 2010's I feel like 2005 Shadow is a more faithful continuation of Shadow's character than Riders - Forces Shadow, especially since it leads to GOAT'ed Shadow arc in Sonic 06. Of course I'm not saying the game is good, in fact its bad...really bad, but much like 06 I don't feel its anywhere near the catastrophic, unplayable, nightmare that its made out to be. Also I would rather play Shadow any day of the week getting all the A ranks over finishing Colours and Forces.
Im going to go even further than this hot take: Shadow the hedgehog was a fun game and the only big flaw it had was the fact that it ruined Shadow's character for the entire 2010s. In the game Shadow's sometimes edgy personality wasn't that bad as that was the product of his memory loss making him not act like himself the main issue was how it carried over to future games. I enjoyed the kill everyone missions though that is personal bias. Yeah the controls are a bit slippery but its consistently slippery and with enough skill you can get consistently good results out of his controls anyway which is why i didn't mind it. This game is overhated in my opinion its average at worst not even bad

I think the level design is pretty good, and i don’t think the game is repetitive, you just have to change your routes a lot more, The game is not as Edgy as many people say it is (It only in the opening cutscene and the fact that there are gun shots at the menu, and yeah there is the swearing but the thing about that. In Japan, Swearing is not as rude as it is English. It not uncommon to hear Sonic Characthers swear, Vector called Eggman a basterd in Sonic Heroes. The overuse of swearing is because of the shitty english dub. You know This Line “Where is that DAMN 4 Chaos Emerald” In Japan he is supposed to say “Where is that 4 Chaos Emerald”. Shadow is not misused in This game. Shadow does not remember What happent in SA2, and because of that he could be anything. He could became a hero, or a villain, or go his own Way. If he is made to believe that he is a villain, he becomes a villain. Black Doom showed him visions from the past on how Humans are “Awful” so Shadow could help him, Now that sounds like something i have heard before. And i think that a intresting direction to take Shadow’s characther, and i think some of the stuff he could be is intresting, though there are also some dumb ones and they are hillarous. Now yes all of Them are not Canon, so some Will argue that they don’t matter, but i think they are “possibilities” of What Shadow could become. And all these endings is What Shadow does NOT become. In the ending of the game he wants to erase his past after hearing who he is and all that, and he wants nothing to do with it. You Can see that in the ending of the game.

My 3 hot takes, -The Sonic Boost games have hindered sonics performance and moveset in 3-D -Sonic heroes and sonic unleashed are mid. -sonic the hedgehog 2 is better than Sonic the hedgehog 3
I agreed with your 5th hot take, Super Sonic is a very special transformation like The Super Saiyan form back in DBZ Namek Saga (Until Toriyama introduced other variants of Super Saiyans which kill the specialty of Super Saiyan), that Hyper shouldn't be introduced in Modern games, besides Super Sonic is already op as it is. But other forms should remain like Darkspine, Excalibur, and Werehog Sonic, as they fit the theme of the story.
4- Sonic 06 wouldn't be a cringefest if they simply removed Elise from existence and made Blaze who is also a princess with pyrokinesis from the SOL dimension. Also that would make her have ANY relevance in the game instead of being Silver's schizophrenia/PTSD.
And this is why Japanese wikipedia has a picture for every article title. So that nobody can run their mouth pretending they know what they're talking about, you actually have to study the concept a TINY bit. It's not at all more difficult to remember Kanji, you just have to remember heresy and hearsay are DIFFERENT things, and you'll learn to write both later when you grow up a little and aren't full of crap, trying to mimic sounds and pass it off as thinking. Same is true in Asian countries in general where they are actually capable of building iPhones and Air jordans, not just wearing them to show off like peacocks. sonic 06 is a fine game is my hot take Looking past all the glitches, I enjoy a lot of the ideas and mechanics it brings to the table. The loading times are annoying, but the gameplay is actually fine!
as a kid, hearing the soundtrack made me feel like this: when i hear the past soundtrack, i feel nostalgic and as if i’ve traveled back in time. when i hear the good future soundtrack, i feel like i’m in a dream world like i’m just drifting. When i hear a present soundtrack, i feel like i’m living in the moment, peacefully and happily but also hopefully. When i hear the bad future, i feel so scared but honestly excited, like the evilness of the dystopian world was just surrounding me Sonic Cds ost and vibes is unmatched
Here are my hot takes. 1- Sonic Boom designs are good and a proper evolution of the characters instead of the involution we're having since Colors. Not in terms of personality but characters losing details. 2- Sonic Mania is the best 2D game to date. 3- Frontiers is hollow and the management of the game with extra patches to make a "cohesive narrative" is a scam.
My hot take is that unleashed is the worst 3D sonic game. I honestly think it’s terrible. The werehog sucks, the sun and moon metals are annoying, the hub worlds are boring, and the day levels are more like a race car track than a sonic level.
My hot takes: 1. Sandopolis is fun level. I've never had a problem with ghosts, rising sand, and switches. 2. I don't like Mania a bit because of the repetitive levels, except for the chemical plant act 2. And also the cyan color of Sonic instead of blue, but this is a quibble. 3. Dark Sonic with pupils looks better than without them.
Alright, I've been waiting for the day to share these publicly in one of your comment sections. I have some of the weirdest opinions ever, but this is all my opinion and no one else's. I am hopeful for the changes coming to your channel because I really want to stick around and continue watching. You're one of my favorite SonicTubers, and I really want to continue watching you. Anyways, onto the hot takes... 1. Sonic Colors: Ultimate is my favorite game of all time. 2. Sonic Mania Plus is a mediocre DLC that lacked a lot of content I wanted. 3. The Pinball Mini Game in Sonic Frontiers is actually pretty fun. (I don't know why this is even a hot take. People just refuse to explain why they hate it.) 4. I prefer 2D Sonic over 3D Sonic. (Not sure if this is a hot take, but I felt obligated to list it.) 5. I like Sonic CD as much as Sonic 2. 6. The Werehog was the funnest part of Sonic Unleashed. 7. The Treasure Hunting in Sonic Adventure 2 was my favorite part of the game. (Yes, I still don't like Mad Space.) 8. I like Sonic 3&K as much as Sonic Mania. 9. Sonic Forces is decent game for what it is, not for what it tried to be. 10. Sonic Origins is very good. Please don't hate me for any of this. I am aware of the weird opinions. I've gotten a lot of hate for having these opinions, like a lot. I always try to respect other people's opinions, but it's very hard to not get enraged when you see a take that just doesn't make sense to you. Sadly, this is a problem with humans in general, and not just the Sonic Fanbase. I really liked that you interviewed other content creators, and got their opinions. Here are my hot takes. I happened to be a huge Chris Thorndyke fan and he is my second favorite right behind Sonic. I adore his friendship with Sonic in Sonic X (Which yeah I love the English version more than the Japanese one yet I haven't seen the full thing yet but I have heard about what was taken out and there are some certain things I wish that weren't taken out but I feel like people blow that out of proportion.) Yes, I know that Chris has his flaws like I love the time freezing episodes especially the one where Sonic and Chris run away together to that campsite but man I just wish that I was the one behind the scenes doing those episodes because there was a lot of it that was just written badly, I have to admit. I even stick up for Chris no matter what. Yet, it's just so cool to me to see Sonic actually befriend a human ordinary boy like Chris because it proves to me that Sonic can befriend anybody and I see so many great things that Chris does as well and he's not useless in my eyes in the show at all even though he does grow a lot in the third season. In fact, while I do love Sonic and Tails' friendship my other hot take is I love Sonic and Chris' friendship more so than the friendship with Sonic and Tails. It's because in my eyes I feel like, of course, it's easy for Sonic to befriend people who are the same species as him but him befriending Chris can show that he can be really tight with humans too even human kids and not just anthropomorphic animals like him. My hot take with the video games though is that the classic games are super overrated compared to the Modern games. I love the classics, don't get me wrong, but I prefer cutscenes where Sonic and the others are talking and epic music can be playing, I love the 3D stuff, and all of the 3D things that happen in the Sonic games is far more epic to me than when it is all in 2D. In fact, 2D stuff just feels absolutely boring to me compared to the Modern 3D stuff. Again I enjoy the classics, I also enjoy the 2D stuff, but it's just how I feel if that makes any kind of sense. My last five hot takes is I love Sonic and Princess Elise's friendship and she is my seventh favorite character. Yes, I find the kiss scene to be absolutely weird but she had to save his life. Yes, I wish that she didn't have a crush on him it's extremely weird but what they have together is still a friendship. Her friendship with Sonic shows me more proof that Sonic can be friends with absolutely anybody and not just anthropomorphic animals even though I do love Sonic's friendship with Tails way more. Lol Also, my favorite Sonic story mode in the games is the Sonic 06 story mode. Yes, it has its flaws but I don't care I see a great story in that game. :) Sonic Adventure DX is my main favorite Sonic game and Sonic 06 is my sixth favorite Sonic game but story wise the story mode to Sonic 06 as a whole beats out any Sonic story mode out there. Also, Sonic's story mode beats out the story modes to Shadow and Silver as well even though I love them. What can I say? I adore the friendship between Sonic and Elise! EEP! :) Oh and I love Sonic Heroes but it's super overrated. The game is way too repetitive and the story mode just feels way too simple and kiddy. Lol Sonic X is way better than Sonic Satam and so are Sonic Prime and Sonic Boom. The Sonic characters that I know and love are in Sonic X and I get to see them go on many adventures and interact with Earth and humans. Sonic goes on cool epic adventures in Sonic Prime. Sonic Boom is a funny fun show to watch. Sonic Satam while it is my favorite Sonic 90's show doesn't have anything of Sonic that I love in the modern days because it came out at a time where none of that existed. Not to mention but Sally is super overrated because she pretty much tells people what to do to fight and doesn't actually do it herself. I love Sally but it still stands. Amy will fight along Sonic. There are many reasons why I am a Sonamy shipper like Amy will adventure off with Sonic and lets him be himself and doesn't hold him down and they are super cute together. The adventures that they go on are fun but the other three grab my attention way more.

[Writing this after the fact: of course, nobody is obliged to agree with me. And also, my comment is basically a mini essay, so I don't blame anyone if nobody wants to read this. Tldr and all that.] Roger Craig Smith is literally the best Sonic voice I've ever heard, and I especially think he is the best Sonic voice for modern Sonic entirely. I believe Roger's voice is so incredibly in sync with Sonic's character as a whole, and his overall skill as a voice actor is quite exceptional, that I simply can not imagine Sonic being voiced by anyone else at this point in time. He's just so incredibly Sonic. I sincerely hope he never departs from the role, much like Sonic JP voice actor, or at least stays with us for another very long time to come. When I heard Roger had announced that he'd no longer be voicing Sonic some time ago, I felt a little heartbroken, I ain't gonna lie. I'm ecstatic that he came back almost immediately. Martin Burke's performance in the OVA gets an honorable mention from me, just simply because he sounded silly in a way that put a smile on my face. Many will probably think it's heresy that Jason Griffith isn't at least one of my favorite Sonic voices, but I've always had a specific problem with his acting style. That is, he was a voice actor for children's cartoons, and it showed. I never enjoyed it. It was cheesy in a particular way that I did not enjoy. That isn't to say I think he's a bad voice actor, but I just simply did not vibe with him as Sonic. His performance in Unleashed was decent, but anything before that always felt off to me. However, I didn't like him as Sonic, but I did enjoy him as Shadow. In fact, he was probably one of, if not the best Shadow voice in the whole series. Most of the voices for Shadow after Griffith have never sounded like they belonged to Shadow, sadly.
I really want mephiles to return to the franchise as a villain, and essentially become shadow's metal. I dont care if a retcon is needed to bring him back, he is just such wasted potential
My controversial Sonic Hot take is Knuckles Chaotix is the my favorite follow up to S3&K, I’d play it over CD, 4, and Mania. I even love the special stages of Chaotix the most too and it would make me addicted to Blue Sphere if that had the Chaotix SSs My Hot Take for 3D Sonic is I enjoy Heroes and 06 and I would rather go back to those than any other 3D Sonic Game.
The level design felt like a good mix between both adventure games. When you look at project 06, the level design barely needed to be touched bc there wasn't anything wrong with it.
Now here is my hot take : Sonic Mania is not the best 2D Sonic game. Now I know people are immediately gonna flood me where applies telling me that I'm a sonicator or that I I'm taking a controversial take but listen hear me out please! As a kid have you felt like d.l dolls are just somewhat over rating things get you wonder how you can achieve the same opinion?
I don't know if this is a hot take but I truly do not believe there is a single bad Sonic game. There are bad aspects, sure, games people single out (storybook games, Lost World, Boom, etc) but I don't think any mainline entry is bad at all. I haven't played many of the spin offs but the racing games are great too
The Titan Boss songs get better the further you get into the game. So.... Undefeatable < Break Through It All < Find Your Flame < I'm Here. I didn’t mind Frontiers' 2D segments. Granted, they are unnecessary and should've never been in the game at all, but as part of a video game. I am perfectly fine with how they are executed. I like Sonic Colors on the Wii.
I’m probably the only person whose least favorite classic game is Sonic 2. (Not counting Sonic 4, of course.) The level design and enemy placement are just so frustrating with a stupidly high amount of beginners traps. I understand why people love it, but I just don’t enjoy it nearly as much as I do the likes of 3K, Mania, and even CD…
That sonic lost world hot take is silly because your remark about the style and location making it looked back on more fondly is absolutely right, the gameplay is pretty solid and most agree on that, the issue is the mario galaxy level design, stupid bosses, horrendous characterization, and piss poor story. Obviously putting it in an actually good setting with id assume better design would 100% make it fun.
Hot Take: I like Tails character more than Sonic, Now this doesn't mean I don't like Sonic, it's just his character has already been fleshed out and I like characters who still haven't reach their potential like Tails.

I'll admit though I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, the one Sonic form I like to see return is Dark Sonic. While only seeing it from Sonic X but hypothetically to the lore of Sonic it's possible for the blue hedgehog to achieve it since a good example is Perfect Chaos in SA1 they used the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds to achieve and Super Sonic is achieved by using the positive energy of the Emeralds so it's not completely out of the question. Moreover, it doesn't need to have different powers than regular Super Sonic it's how Sonic moves in his dark form, like how is how he fights. Like, Dark Sonic fights like the werehog but it how it's shown by Frontiers combat if that makes sense.
I have a pretty spicy hot take: Sonic Satam is the worst Sonic show ever made and is HELLA overrated. I doesn’t even feel like a Sonic show, similar to Sonic movie 1 it feels like a random show with Sonic characters in it, but at least Sonic movie 1 was actually well written and had good characters, Satam has none of that, the ONLY reason Sally is a well loved is because of the ship with Sonic, the furries, and when Ian Flynn wrote the Archie comic where they we’re ACTUALLY well written.

Here's my hot take: Roger Craig Smith isn't a bad Sonic voice actor. He's just been given the wrong direction how to voice the character. Listening to him in Team Sonic Racing, Twitter Takeovers, and the TailsTube episodes really let him settle into the role. It was just rough considering he was put during the "Meta Era" of Sonic titles and it was during this point they changed the tone of the Sonic franchise.
I enjoyed his peformance in frontiers i think that game showed that roger can be a good sonic if given a good script to work with

@Z- Your opinion. When I grew up, people were complaining about Jason Griffith's voice as much as people are complaining about Roger. I'm sure if someone asked Jason about the backlash he got voicing Sonic, he'd tell you. Now, he's beloved. At the end of the day, it's the character that accompanies the voice and we're just getting through the seams of that. Whether it's Sonic from the 90's cartoon, the movie, the game, Prime, or other, the voice is only half of what makes Sonic the character he is.

I liked Ryan and Jason both instantly but Roger still to this day 12 years later doesn’t do it for me personally. I prefer the more cartoonish energetic voice with more emotion that they used to give. Roger feels so monotoned in the majority of his appearances. For the voice of Sonic the hedgehog he just doesn’t do it justice
@Z- Yet I've seen the cartoonish energy Roger can give. Even if you excuse Boom in its entirety, there's still the aforementioned titles I listed as well as Rise of the Wisps animated short where I think Roger does a great job conveying Sonic's laid back, but heroic side as well as his upbeat energy.
At the end of the day, I believe it's just the direction that's given and personal opinion. Everyone's gonna have different takes and there's also a lot of younger fans who grew up with Roger as their Sonic. Or newcomers to the series from the movies where Ben Schwartz is the voice of Sonic. Or now with Prime, where Deven Mack are people's choice for a Sonic voice. The voice is just a voice. It's down to what you think carries Sonic's spirit in his character, line delivery, and actions, and I believe that Roger, when given a proper script that understands the character, delivers that.

I would've agreed with you on hyper Sonic up until Frontiers. If they keep the same formula of super Sonic appearing in multiple bosses throughout the game, it'd be neat to see a further transformation for the final boss to make the final boss feel more special.

I think Frontiers was an isolated experience in having Super Sonic boss battles in succession like that. The story allowed the chaos emeralds to gather and disperse on every Starfall Island for that formula to work. Can't see that working in a future title without a contrived reason and stripping other characters from participating in the action and having agency.
that i 100% agree if the super sonic fights keep the same routine as frontiers hyper sonic would make more sense to give sonic more options

My hotake is I don’t have a standard setting for Sonic. Whether it be realistic, Sonic like or even Mario like environments. I just think Sonic fits in anywhere so it never bothered me seeing him in settings Lost World or 06.

I finally played Lost World for the first time yesterday and after beating it, I still have no idea how to feel about it.
It's not bad, it's not mid, it's not great. It was just an experience. That's pretty much it for me.

My hot take is that as an experience, sonic frontiers is the best sonic game of all time. From the open zones, combat, bosses, story and even cyberspace it got me so invested in the world that no other sonic game has done before. Might not be the highest quality sonic game, that goes to unleashed and gens and it is rough around the edges, but overall, it is the best experience you can get from a sonic game.
Pretty lukewarm take tbh, would've been hotter had Frontiers unfortunately remained the same as the infamous early IGN gameplay reveal.

About the Super Sonic hot take, there could be a way to have a new Sonic form that stays in line with Super Sonic. Theorized in SA1, since Sonic uses positive Emerald energy to go Super, the chaos should be balanced with the existence of a negative Super form. This technically gives Sonic a "new form" while still staying Super

I only got two that cross my mind;
1. Is that Mephlies isn’t as great as he’s made out to be (he’s kind of an idiot).
2. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is the best Knuckles story.
Mephlies I think is great in some regards, specifically his interactions with Shadow. But for a while I’ve seen him being held on this pedestal and praised as the best Sonic villain ever. But why? Most of the time, people say it’s because he killed Sonic. Which like, yeah, he did. But to me it’s the reason behind it. What’s Mephlies’ ultimate goal? Reunite with Iblis and become Solaris again. How is he going to do this? Get Elise to cry so she releases the flames of disaster. So he tricks Silver and Blaze to go back in time and kill Sonic. A good number of things wrong with this. Why Silver and Blaze? What about them makes him think “Hey, I should send them back in time to kill Sonic.” Does he not like working that hard? I mean he ends up doing the job himself, so what’s the point? In fact, he doesn’t need to kill Sonic or get involved with Silver. All he has to do is time travel to when Elise dies aboard Eggman’s crashing ship. OH WAIT! He doesn’t need to time travel because Iblis already exists in the future! Merge with him there! Mephlies is an idiot for having this weirdly complicated plan that ultimately doesn’t play out the way he’ll think.
Onto the more positive part. Even though The Dark Brotherhood’s story is centered on Sonic, I think it’s the best Knuckles story. It gives him a conflict that I find really intriguing; side with his people, the ones he thought to be gone, or choose his duty as the guardian of the Master Emerald, as he always has. Even though it doesn’t feel like his decision took long towards the final fight against Ix, you can tell Knuckles has been struggling with the idea of fighting back against his own race, since he’s no longer the last of his kind. It’s just, as much a he’d want to accept them, he knows he can’t because they’re fighting for a cause he doesn’t believe in. And when Shade finds out about Ix’s true intentions, it becomes even more clear what he needs to do. Which ultimately leads to the final battle where when Ix grants Knuckles that ultimatum, Knuckles has his answer at the ready before the question’s asked. It paints him in a new light that I don’t think many other stories have.
I think the reason why people love mephiles is bc he just kind of does all of this just for the fun of it. To manipulate silver, attempt to have shadow join him, kill sonic, and release the flames of disater from Elise. He craves power and destruction because he finds it comical. That's why he just straight up laughs after sonic dying. I think people just like a villain that's just nothing but evil as hell. I can understand why it wouldn't make sense, because mephiles isnt exactly the most multi layered, understandable villain. He's just the kind that makes a hobby out of controlling things his own way. This isnt really something we seen in a sonic villain before excluding eggman. unless you wanna count shadow. His plan doesn't make sense, sure but i feel like it doesn't have to. because his whole purpose is to just be a evil prick for the fun of it.

Here are some hot takes I have:
-Sandopolis is my favorite level in Sonic 3 and Knuckles
-Sonic 4 Episode 2, is legit a really freaking good game and better than Sonic 2.
-I like Colors Ultimate more than the original
-Sonic Forces is kind of fun when you try to get better at it and master it (most notably, I feel like people don't try the time missions of these levels, because everyone talks about how easy it is to get S rank in that game, but not how the time missions are generally way harder)
-The Cyber Space levels are really fun, and I had almost zero problems with the Cyber Space controls. In fact, Cyber Space MIGHT end up as my favorite part of the game as I play it more and more.

Hot take: sonic frontiers is not top 5 sonic games, it’s good and a good direction for the series but it’s quite unpolished and cannot outdo many of the other sonic games, I like it but I feel like everyone is so quick to jump to calling it “the GOAT” despite its unpolished and unfinished islands and gameplay.

Colors, Generations, and Frontiers being superior to Unleashed is a pretty warm take. Unleashed is a very divisive game, you have one side of the fanbase that loves it and the other side that doesn't. Colors and Generations however (and Frontiers to an extent) are loved by the majority of the Sonic fanbase and even gamers outside of the fanbase. I think Colors, Generations, and Frontiers are simply more accessible and easier to pick up and play compared to Unleashed. Sonic Unleashed is more difficult, and the werehog is controversial and very divisive among fans. The other three titles don't have any gimmicks like the werehog that drastically change the gameplay and pace.
I don’t know how much of a hot take this is but my hot take would be the Sonic OVA is the coolest portrayal of Sonic and the gang counting all the cartoons and movies, outside the games obv.
I like Forces, SATBK, Lost World, Shadow game, the DS version of Colors (the wii ver is kinda mid for me).

My HOT TAKE is that Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) is not as bad as people make it out to be.
You'd swear STH killed someone's dog with how much people hate it, but I always found it to not be anywhere near games like Boom or Forces. The gun play keeps the player moving and makes enemy encounters less pace breaking than in Heroes, the rail grinding is better and picks up more speed when doing the tricks, Shadow's slippery controls aren't as bad as people say since a lot of the platforms are wider than the Heroes' platforms that had players flying off to there deaths, the level design is...OK its either really basic or super confusing but the kill 'X' amount of enemies were nowhere near as hard to do as the Chaotix missions in Heroes, and getting the A ranks in the game are pretty forgiving unlike other Sonic games where you have to beat the stage without dying, with a high enough score, a fast enough time, and a a good Ring bonus(looking at you 06). Also the music SLAPS and cutscenes in the game are really cheesy but also really engaging. I also feel that Shadow's portrayal in the game is not as damaging as people say it is, the games made sure that Shadow is canonically seen as the hero in the True Ending, the president sees Shadow as a hero just like Sonic, and even a GUN troop says to the GUN Commander 'Isn't Shadow on our side?'. The games story structure also allows for several moments of Shadow's over the top Edginess to be taken out of the events of the story - So Shadow may have never villainously stolen the Chaos Emerald saying 'This is like taking candy from a baby', but he may have also said played through 'Lost Impact' after racing Sonic in 'Space Gadget'. With how Shadow would become in the 2010's I feel like 2005 Shadow is a more faithful continuation of Shadow's character than Riders - Forces Shadow, especially since it leads to GOAT'ed Shadow arc in Sonic 06.
Of course I'm not saying the game is good, in fact its bad...really bad, but much like 06 I don't feel its anywhere near the catastrophic, unplayable, nightmare that its made out to be. Also I would rather play Shadow any day of the week getting all the A ranks over finishing Colours and Forces.
Im going to go even further than this hot take: Shadow the hedgehog was a fun game and the only big flaw it had was the fact that it ruined Shadow's character for the entire 2010s. In the game Shadow's sometimes edgy personality wasn't that bad as that was the product of his memory loss making him not act like himself the main issue was how it carried over to future games. I enjoyed the kill everyone missions though that is personal bias. Yeah the controls are a bit slippery but its consistently slippery and with enough skill you can get consistently good results out of his controls anyway which is why i didn't mind it. This game is overhated in my opinion its average at worst not even bad

I think the level design is pretty good, and i don’t think the game is repetitive, you just have to change your routes a lot more, The game is not as Edgy as many people say it is (It only in the opening cutscene and the fact that there are gun shots at the menu, and yeah there is the swearing but the thing about that. In Japan, Swearing is not as rude as it is English. It not uncommon to hear Sonic Characthers swear, Vector called Eggman a basterd in Sonic Heroes. The overuse of swearing is because of the shitty english dub. You know This Line “Where is that DAMN 4 Chaos Emerald” In Japan he is supposed to say “Where is that 4 Chaos Emerald”. Shadow is not misused in This game. Shadow does not remember What happent in SA2, and because of that he could be anything. He could became a hero, or a villain, or go his own Way. If he is made to believe that he is a villain, he becomes a villain. Black Doom showed him visions from the past on how Humans are “Awful” so Shadow could help him, Now that sounds like something i have heard before.
And i think that a intresting direction to take Shadow’s characther, and i think some of the stuff he could be is intresting, though there are also some dumb ones and they are hillarous. Now yes all of Them are not Canon, so some Will argue that they don’t matter, but i think they are “possibilities” of What Shadow could become. And all these endings is What Shadow does NOT become. In the ending of the game he wants to erase his past after hearing who he is and all that, and he wants nothing to do with it. You Can see that in the ending of the game.

I agreed with your 5th hot take, Super Sonic is a very special transformation like The Super Saiyan form back in DBZ Namek Saga (Until Toriyama introduced other variants of Super Saiyans which kill the specialty of Super Saiyan), that Hyper shouldn't be introduced in Modern games, besides Super Sonic is already op as it is.
But other forms should remain like Darkspine, Excalibur, and Werehog Sonic, as they fit the theme of the story.

4- Sonic 06 wouldn't be a cringefest if they simply removed Elise from existence and made Blaze who is also a princess with pyrokinesis from the SOL dimension.

Looking past all the glitches, I enjoy a lot of the ideas and mechanics it brings to the table.
The loading times are annoying, but the gameplay is actually fine!

1- Sonic Boom designs are good and a proper evolution of the characters instead of the involution we're having since Colors. Not in terms of personality but characters losing details.
2- Sonic Mania is the best 2D game to date.
3- Frontiers is hollow and the management of the game with extra patches to make a "cohesive narrative" is a scam.
My hot take is that unleashed is the worst 3D sonic game. I honestly think it’s terrible. The werehog sucks, the sun and moon metals are annoying, the hub worlds are boring, and the day levels are more like a race car track than a sonic level.

1. Sandopolis is fun level. I've never had a problem with ghosts, rising sand, and switches.
2. I don't like Mania a bit because of the repetitive levels, except for the chemical plant act 2. And also the cyan color of Sonic instead of blue, but this is a quibble.

I am hopeful for the changes coming to your channel because I really want to stick around and continue watching. You're one of my favorite SonicTubers, and I really want to continue watching you. Anyways, onto the hot takes...
1. Sonic Colors: Ultimate is my favorite game of all time.
2. Sonic Mania Plus is a mediocre DLC that lacked a lot of content I wanted.
3. The Pinball Mini Game in Sonic Frontiers is actually pretty fun. (I don't know why this is even a hot take. People just refuse to explain why they hate it.)
4. I prefer 2D Sonic over 3D Sonic. (Not sure if this is a hot take, but I felt obligated to list it.)
5. I like Sonic CD as much as Sonic 2.
6. The Werehog was the funnest part of Sonic Unleashed.
7. The Treasure Hunting in Sonic Adventure 2 was my favorite part of the game. (Yes, I still don't like Mad Space.)
8. I like Sonic 3&K as much as Sonic Mania.
9. Sonic Forces is decent game for what it is, not for what it tried to be.

Please don't hate me for any of this. I am aware of the weird opinions. I've gotten a lot of hate for having these opinions, like a lot. I always try to respect other people's opinions, but it's very hard to not get enraged when you see a take that just doesn't make sense to you. Sadly, this is a problem with humans in general, and not just the Sonic Fanbase. I really liked that you interviewed other content creators, and got their opinions. You didn't have to that, but I'm glad you did. I hope it gets better over time, but it doesn't look like it will, unfortunately... :(

Here are my hot takes.
I happened to be a huge Chris Thorndyke fan and he is my second favorite right behind Sonic.
I adore his friendship with Sonic in Sonic X (Which yeah I love the English version more than the Japanese one yet I haven't seen the full thing yet but I have heard about what was taken out and there are some certain things I wish that weren't taken out but I feel like people blow that out of proportion.)
Yes, I know that Chris has his flaws like I love the time freezing episodes especially the one where Sonic and Chris run away together to that campsite but man I just wish that I was the one behind the scenes doing those episodes because there was a lot of it that was just written badly, I have to admit.
I even stick up for Chris no matter what.
Yet, it's just so cool to me to see Sonic actually befriend a human ordinary boy like Chris because it proves to me that Sonic can befriend anybody and I see so many great things that Chris does as well and he's not useless in my eyes in the show at all even though he does grow a lot in the third season.
In fact, while I do love Sonic and Tails' friendship my other hot take is I love Sonic and Chris' friendship more so than the friendship with Sonic and Tails.
It's because in my eyes I feel like, of course, it's easy for Sonic to befriend people who are the same species as him but him befriending Chris can show that he can be really tight with humans too even human kids and not just anthropomorphic animals like him.
My hot take with the video games though is that the classic games are super overrated compared to the Modern games.
I love the classics, don't get me wrong, but I prefer cutscenes where Sonic and the others are talking and epic music can be playing, I love the 3D stuff, and all of the 3D things that happen in the Sonic games is far more epic to me than when it is all in 2D.
In fact, 2D stuff just feels absolutely boring to me compared to the Modern 3D stuff.
Again I enjoy the classics, I also enjoy the 2D stuff, but it's just how I feel if that makes any kind of sense.
My last five hot takes is I love Sonic and Princess Elise's friendship and she is my seventh favorite character.
Yes, I find the kiss scene to be absolutely weird but she had to save his life.
Yes, I wish that she didn't have a crush on him it's extremely weird but what they have together is still a friendship.
Her friendship with Sonic shows me more proof that Sonic can be friends with absolutely anybody and not just anthropomorphic animals even though I do love Sonic's friendship with Tails way more. Lol
Also, my favorite Sonic story mode in the games is the Sonic 06 story mode.

Sonic Adventure DX is my main favorite Sonic game and Sonic 06 is my sixth favorite Sonic game but story wise the story mode to Sonic 06 as a whole beats out any Sonic story mode out there.
Also, Sonic's story mode beats out the story modes to Shadow and Silver as well even though I love them.

Sonic goes on cool epic adventures in Sonic Prime.
Sonic Boom is a funny fun show to watch.
Sonic Satam while it is my favorite Sonic 90's show doesn't have anything of Sonic that I love in the modern days because it came out at a time where none of that existed.
Not to mention but Sally is super overrated because she pretty much tells people what to do to fight and doesn't actually do it herself.
I love Sally but it still stands.

There are many reasons why I am a Sonamy shipper like Amy will adventure off with Sonic and lets him be himself and doesn't hold him down and they are super cute together.

I've had this same opinion for years, it's an opinion that I've never SEEN anyone else say yet (though I probably could if I did some digging around), so I consider it to be a hot take until I suddenly find a bunch of people agreeing with me.
[Writing this after the fact: of course, nobody is obliged to agree with me. And also, my comment is basically a mini essay, so I don't blame anyone if nobody wants to read this. Tldr and all that.]
Roger Craig Smith is literally the best Sonic voice I've ever heard, and I especially think he is the best Sonic voice for modern Sonic entirely. I believe Roger's voice is so incredibly in sync with Sonic's character as a whole, and his overall skill as a voice actor is quite exceptional, that I simply can not imagine Sonic being voiced by anyone else at this point in time. He's just so incredibly Sonic. I sincerely hope he never departs from the role, much like Sonic JP voice actor, or at least stays with us for another very long time to come. When I heard Roger had announced that he'd no longer be voicing Sonic some time ago, I felt a little heartbroken, I ain't gonna lie. I'm ecstatic that he came back almost immediately.
Martin Burke's performance in the OVA gets an honorable mention from me, just simply because he sounded silly in a way that put a smile on my face.
Many will probably think it's heresy that Jason Griffith isn't at least one of my favorite Sonic voices, but I've always had a specific problem with his acting style. That is, he was a voice actor for children's cartoons, and it showed. I never enjoyed it. It was cheesy in a particular way that I did not enjoy. That isn't to say I think he's a bad voice actor, but I just simply did not vibe with him as Sonic. His performance in Unleashed was decent, but anything before that always felt off to me. However, I didn't like him as Sonic, but I did enjoy him as Shadow. In fact, he was probably one of, if not the best Shadow voice in the whole series. Most of the voices for Shadow after Griffith have never sounded like they belonged to Shadow, sadly.

My controversial Sonic Hot take is Knuckles Chaotix is the my favorite follow up to S3&K, I’d play it over CD, 4, and Mania. I even love the special stages of Chaotix the most too and it would make me addicted to Blue Sphere if that had the Chaotix SSs
My Hot Take for 3D Sonic is I enjoy Heroes and 06 and I would rather go back to those than any other 3D Sonic Game.

The level design felt like a good mix between both adventure games. When you look at project 06, the level design barely needed to be touched bc there wasn't anything wrong with it.

I don't know if this is a hot take but I truly do not believe there is a single bad Sonic game. There are bad aspects, sure, games people single out (storybook games, Lost World, Boom, etc) but I don't think any mainline entry is bad at all. I haven't played many of the spin offs but the racing games are great too

I’m probably the only person whose least favorite classic game is Sonic 2. (Not counting Sonic 4, of course.) The level design and enemy placement are just so frustrating with a stupidly high amount of beginners traps. I understand why people love it, but I just don’t enjoy it nearly as much as I do the likes of 3K, Mania, and even CD…
That sonic lost world hot take is silly because your remark about the style and location making it looked back on more fondly is absolutely right, the gameplay is pretty solid and most agree on that, the issue is the mario galaxy level design, stupid bosses, horrendous characterization, and piss poor story. Obviously putting it in an actually good setting with id assume better design would 100% make it fun.
Hot Take: I like Tails character more than Sonic, Now this doesn't mean I don't like Sonic, it's just his character has already been fleshed out and I like characters who still haven't reach their potential like Tails.

I'll admit though I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, the one Sonic form I like to see return is Dark Sonic. While only seeing it from Sonic X but hypothetically to the lore of Sonic it's possible for the blue hedgehog to achieve it since a good example is Perfect Chaos in SA1 they used the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds to achieve and Super Sonic is achieved by using the positive energy of the Emeralds so it's not completely out of the question. Moreover, it doesn't need to have different powers than regular Super Sonic it's how Sonic moves in his dark form, like how is how he fights. Like, Dark Sonic fights like the werehog but it how it's shown by Frontiers combat if that makes sense.

I have a pretty spicy hot take: Sonic Satam is the worst Sonic show ever made and is HELLA overrated. I doesn’t even feel like a Sonic show, similar to Sonic movie 1 it feels like a random show with Sonic characters in it, but at least Sonic movie 1 was actually well written and had good characters, Satam has none of that, the ONLY reason Sally is a well loved is because of the ship with Sonic, the furries, and when Ian Flynn wrote the Archie comic where they we’re ACTUALLY well written.
