    Question of the day: are you team Peloton or team NordicTrack/iFit?

    • @patrickmaher4944
      @patrickmaher4944 3 года назад +4

      Peloton Tread primarily because of the size and the clean look. Nordic does seem to have more functionality, like the negative decline. But for home use, despite the fact that it can fold up, it seems a bit big for my home use. Nordic Treadmill does seem to have more features, but also fear for more things to break down - hydraulic system, the fan, etc. Despite the smaller power, Peloton meets my running needs - speed and incline. And the quality of the screen is really good. However, I wish Peloton allowed its tablet to stream other apps, like Netflix or RUclips or listen to our own music playlist off our music streaming app. Thank you for the great review of both treadmills.

      I prefer peloton’s equipment, studio workouts for running cycling and strength and the community. I do wish they would offer more scenic runs like iFit though. I’m considering getting a tablet holder to hang over the screens for days I feel like using iFit.

    Purchased the NT 2950 in august...... . From the day of delivery, I knew it was going to be a problem. Courier turned up in a big semi by himself, had to drop the crate kerbside which was about 100mtrs from my house. Had to actually unpack the unit on the pavement and carry it bit by bit to the house. Also had to get some neighbours to give me a hand carrying the running deck, not light at all...about 180kgs. When I finally got it all inside, took about 90mins to assemble. Not the best quality build either as some of the pre-drilled holes didn't line up.
    Anyway, once it was all assembled and ready to go, it lasted 6 weeks, touch screen started playing up within 2 weeks, had to push really hard for it to do any thing and on the 6th week, failed to turn on on a few occasions and then the motor just blew up...... Had the extended warranty etc... contacted Nordictrack, took 5 days for a response, was told an engineer wouldn't be able to service the unit for at least 6 - 8 weeks. Contacted the retailer and demanded a refund. Very long and drawn out process.....eventually received my refund.
    Thoughts on the Nordictrack, It has a lot of features (gimmicks), big running deck, Bluetooth, and a fan....but, build quality is very poor, screen doesn't tilt, quality of the videos isn't that great, a lot of buffering and resetting, on full decline you can't run at max speed. Also, if you sweat a lot, the metal uprights and metal grill covering the fan show signs of rust and staining even after wiping it down. Customer service from the manufacturer and retailer was also abysmal, slow to respond and had to be chased every step of the way.
    In a summary, for £2700, you'd expect a lot better quality..... in this instance, more money doesn't buy you better quality. Cheaper and less hassle to throw on a jacket and run on the road 👍🏻

    Much appreciated. We’ve owned a Nordic track for about 10yrs. Multiple marathons trained on it with thousands of miles run. We’ve had lots of issues and we’re glad we got the extended warranty as everything but the frame has been replaced with only the motor most recently. We have an extra belt but this is still the original one. The idea of fans is huge and am surprised it was overlooked from Peleton. The decline training for me is also huge as it’s a massive part of your training, to know how to run both up and down in a race should not be neglected. The larger HP motor is another big one the last biggie for us is the belt width the extra inch on either side is welcoming. We didn’t realize it was a factor until running on another treadmill at a hotel and it felt so small. For us the choice is clear, it will be another NT in our home.

      That's a fair point, NordicTrack has brought back their delivery and assembly options, as of right now it's an additional $250 cost on top of the purchase of your machine. Unlike Peloton who has that price already built into your total cost. It is definitely nice to have your machine built for you. How are you liking the Peloton Tread so far?

    • @caliinthevalley24681
      @caliinthevalley24681 3 года назад +10

      @@TreadmillReviewGuru Overall I like it. A few things that have made me albeit slightly regret my decision though.
      1. Wobble. The guys that came to install slapped the thing together in probably 30 minutes tops. They really made no effort to calibrate or level the machine. I had to do that on my own and figure it out by watching You Tube videos. While the overall makeup of the treadmill is very stable and solid the handlebars did wobble and I am not a heavy footed runner. 130lbs and 5’ tall.
      2. You can’t watch or have access to Amazon Prime or Netflix The Nordic Track has a hack where you can watch a movie while jogging which is really my favorite thing to do. I’m not one for jogging classes. Honestly I find it stupid that considering what you pay you can’t watch what you want on these monitors. I use a tablet holder I found on Amazon and my Kindle Fire 10” to watch what I want.
      3. Yearly maintenance. I just happened to randomly stumble upon a Peleton You Tube video with instructions on how to oil and maintain the belt. My kit did not come with treadmill oil and the steps to maintain it….well let’s put it this way they pretty much lost me 30 seconds in. Instructions were pretty lengthy and involved.
      While I overall do enjoy running on my treadmill I kind of wish I knew of those 3 things before I purchased it. It definitely is a smaller footprint and pretty solid. Considering the fact that I live in a 980 sq ft home I needed something compact.
      Overall I might have reconsidered the extra $250 assembly fee for Nordic Track to assemble it for me. You get way more bang for your buck with the Nordic Track but I have to agree with other reviewers as someone who has owned and retired a Nordic Track machine in the past they’re glitchy and customer service is horrible. Peleton would come and pick up my machine and take it back if I asked them to. Customer service is way better with Peleton and I guess overall nothing is ever perfect. It’s a nice solid machine overall.

    I have used both, iFit is clunky, the scenic content is great but the studio stuff is boring. Peloton, the scenic content is very poorly done, the studio content is by far superior, the training is focused and it is easier to find what you want with much better options. If you noticed her brief run test the NT takes too long to speed up on intervals the motor is 4.25 HP DC but not as good as the 3.0 HP AC. AC motors have better response time, they are not slow to build speed and deliver a better interval training experience. For a runner AC motor is superior in every way, for recreational walking, jogging the DC motor is probably sufficient, if you look at high quality treadmills in club environments the motor is usually AC not DC. Thank you for the review of these machines.

      Thanks for watching our comparison! That is really interesting that you bring up the differences in motor type. On the original slat belt treadmill (Peloton Tread+) that Peloton released, they had an AC motor, but on this newer and small tread, it's actually a DC motor.
      I'm not disagreeing with what you said about the differences and pros and cons of DC vs AC but this particular Peloton Tread uses a DC motor, you can double check on their website.

    I ordered the NT 2950 due to the recall on the Peleton treds. I returned the NT after 2 weeks because it would stop midway through a workout. The screen would keep moving as if I was still working out, but the tread would stop and I had to stand on the rails. The tread would slowly come back up to speed, but sometimes when I tried to get back on it would stop again. Sometimes I had to quit the entire workout session. A Google search found the Internet full of reviews of this problem, so apparently it’s pretty common and it appears that Nordic track is pushing its quality control on to the consumers. The online reviews I read about this issue said that their fix was to send you a new motherboard and a video link to have you change it out yourself. I purchased the NT 2950 because Consumer Reports rated it well too. But it almost $3000, it doesn’t even work correctly out of the box. I’m very disappointed with NT and will not be purchasing this brand again.

A technician came told me the stopping of the belt burned a piece of rubber next to the motor. They changed it and changed the cover of the motor heading. The treadmill was still smelling after they “fixed” it. Another technician came and adjusted a piece under the belt. He said that seems to be the problem. Guess what? It still smells! It was way out of my budget but I got it cuz I thought I was investing in my health! I hate it and wish I never bought it!

    We got our Soul F80 in 2010 which is so alike to the Nordic. Strong and get for heavier people. Great to move and clean under. Peleton is not able to lift the track or move it. Dust is sucked into it and then the tread will start making a noise. Soul/ Nordic are both so much safer in our situation and we can watch the TV with no issues and clean the dust sooo easily underneath it each month that has collected. Size matters if you're a serious runner. At faster paces your stride length gets longer and that extra few inched of bed make a huge difference. Even the extra couple inches wider helps if your distracted watching a movie and you move over a bit. I have an older C1500 and the speed switch is the only thing that I had issues with and it was replaced after only 3 months of use. I think it's almost 9 years old now and the walking platform is getting worn. It has lots of miles on it. I just ordered a new walking platform for about $150 and not too bad to install. I love the instant speed selection and elevation button. I just assembled a C2950 for a friend and it is a machine! The Peloton treadmill looks more like something for a quick warm-up before weights.

My question is, how long can I expect these treadmills to last (in terms of kilometers maybe)? It is not that I don’t care about pricing but I would rather spend more on a better machine than having a problem two or three years after using it and having to buy another one or having to spend money in repairs (plus the loss of having the machine while it goes for repair and all the headaches that come from that). Hi Tony, thanks for watching our video! Great question, it sounds like your incline might need to be calibrated. Something similar happened to us when we got the latest 2950. When the treadmill wasn't in use the deck would default to -3 decline instead of at a flat road. Once we calibrated the incline the problem was solved. Try that out and let us know how it works, you can find it in the settings.

    Another question. Is the X32i a better option than the 2950?

    • @TreadmillReviewGuru
      @TreadmillReviewGuru  2 года назад +1

      Also a great question, it depends on what you are going to be using it for and what kind of space you have in your home. The NordicTrack 2950 is great and has great cushioning, the 22 inch screen is plenty big, in my opinion, you don't need much beyond 22 inches there. The X32i is a good machine and has amazing incline training benefits and the cushioning is unmatched. The only real downsides to the X32i is that it takes up quite a bit of space because it doesn't fold, and the screen is a little too big for our liking. But the quality and training capabilities on the X32i are amazing. Please let me know what other questions you have.

    I love NT and their IFit program. Their interface is buggy and looks outdated and their screen hardware can barely pull 1080p full HD like they claim. Peloton seems to have won in that perspective but their cost for membership on top of the high cost of their equipment is a huge deterrent. I got the NT equipment when they were offering a year of IFit with purchase. They stopped doing that and only offer a month now, probably due to losing money on essentially a $400 yearly membership.

    No doubt the Nordic is the superior treadmill in all but one aspect. It's as ugly as sin, the Peloton just like the bike is a beautiful device which you'll happily leave on display on your house whilst the Nordic needs to be in a garage or shed. This is important for those of us with limited room. So yes, not as good for serious runners, but much more realistic for many people to incorporate into their homes.

    No mention of creature comforts. I once was a new car sales person at BMW and many people would ALWAYS comment on "Cup Holders" it was so important to clients. The reason why I am mentioning this is I had a treadmill a long time ago and it was important for me to have nice sized cup or I should say water bottle holders as I drink more water than fish do, Bad joke. But I also would have liked to know about how people put their phones on the unit. The Peloton does not look like it has holders for say a book holder or a place to put your phone, iPad etc. Can you tell me what you think about what you saw when you compared the 2.....I am liking the NordicTrack by what I am seeing so far but the camera never came in for a close shot for these things. Also if you do not care about joining the subscription for either treadmill, can you just watch regular TV and is it good quality like can you watch things in High Definition?? How do the screens compare when it comes to watching TV and walking. I walk min. 5 miles per day and if I had a treadmill it would be great because where I live it gets too hot in the summer and it never rains but a few times in California and it get's too cold in the winter, so that is why I want to get a treadmill with a nice warranty on it. I am sure I will have to buy an extended warranty since the things that matter will usually break down on it and I do not want to spend an arm and a leg to get it fixed. Anyway, thank you for your time and I hope to get a response from the content maker or anyone else who feels like responding. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all.

      Great questions. You can't watch regular TV or access the internet on either of these treadmills. The screens are designed to just display the manufacturer's app. You are correct that the Peloton has limited space for a phone, book, or tablet. The Nordictrack 2950 offers a ledge for either a book or tablet and your phone will fit on the ledge or in a cup holder. There are two cupholders on both treadmills, but the 2950 cup holders are much larger and more secure.
