    Normally I don’t trust it when a company sends someone a product, but the fact Sovol knows what you post and decided to send you a printer tells me they’re much more 2A friendly than most tech related companies. I like that a lot.

    You know what, I really respect the "... free of charge, so that might soften up my review a bit". I usually don't trust reviews where the product was received for free (and YTers make a big deal about not being paid directly), but that one sentence from you actually helps a lot!

    I have this printer too. With multi-material parts, this printer prints 2 layers with the same tool head before changing the tool head. Due to the fact that the spool holder has no bearings and the spool is difficult to roll off, each 2nd layer is different in height after the tool head change. Was able to eliminate the problem with the Z height by using bearing spool holders. A significant improvement can be seen not only in dual mode (Multi material) in terms of Z height, but also in all other modes. I don't think it's caused by the slicers.

    I think mirror mode is for people who don’t know how to use CAD but need a right and left of something. I don’t think it is much of a selling point but maybe it helps with one print the entire time you own it lol. I enjoyed the review. It’s a lot more honest than most.

    • @tHaH4x0r
      @tHaH4x0r Год назад +5

      You don't need to know CAD to mirror something, you can do it straight in most slicers. I suppose this mode might be handy if you want to produce a lot of parts in both right and left mirrored version (ex. fan ducts, miniature boots etc). You can just stack half the bed full with only one sided figures, and let the printer handle the mirrored version automatically.
      But I do agree, that the mirrored mode is only of very niche and limited usefulness.

      It should reduce vibration.

  • @fahrisonfpv2540
    @fahrisonfpv2540 Год назад +1

    @drrock5356 you can use the standard 608 ball bearings and corresponding spool holders from thingiverse. just search for universal spool holder and an ender 3 spool holder adapter to mount it on the sv04.
    the run out sensors also pass over so that there is no friction which would otherwise also pull the extruder toolhead upwards.

    thanks for this review. been meaning to watch it for a while, as i bought this printer about 6 months back. I envy the z stops on the Prusa, the whole bed leveling process and using the plastic rectangles really irks me. I noticed the z banding, doubled layers, and weird extrusion as well, maybe I'll try prusa slicer. Id love to see another video.
    Definitely getting a glass bed, but for anyone that has it already and hates how grippy the magnetic plate is, i use a gluestick more as a release agent than an adhesive and it works very well.

    Been thinking about getting one of these to replace the JGMaker Artist-D that I bought a year ago, and which broke down only a few months after I got it. Took a while but I finally have a check on the way from the warranty. The one thing I found attractive about the Artist-D was the quick-change nozzles - which in actual practice, rather suck.

    Thanks. I was deciding between this and the Bambu x-1 carbon.
    With all those negative points, I would rather spend the money on something with better quality prints and more user friendly.
    That thing seems like a nightmare.

    A couple questions
    1- Did you find the bed leveling a pain
    2- Is there a glass plate bed that can be swapped out with this printer
    3- Does the STL for the octopus come with, or where did you find it? Just wondered thanks!

    didnt the patent on heated build chambers expire why is there not a bunch of affordable heated chamber printers flooding the market

    • @tHaH4x0r
      @tHaH4x0r Год назад +2

      I believe the patent you are referring to is the one from stratasys.
      They didn't have a patent on a heated build chamber, rather on the separation of motion control parts outside of said heated build chamber. The motion control parts overheating generally puts an upper limit to the temperature the chamber can reach, but then we are talking about temps only really required for 'high end' materials such as PEEK or ULTEM.
      Still, the separation of heated build chamber and motion control components does make manufacturing more expensive. Additionally heating an entire chamber is costly in terms of heating components required and electricity. Lastly, the high temp materials that require such chambers are very expensive to use and quite niche. Most low end printers print solely PLA, maybe some PETG and TPU or in an extreme case ABS. The lowcost printer market simply doesn't benefit from the high end materials, and thus I don't see how this would provide a breakthrough for lower cost printers.
      I do however think that the expiration of this patent might provide a similar jump in the high end printer market as for example the Bambulab X1C did, i.e. making previously expensive technology much more affordable and within reach of more people, but in the high end market. This price segment makes much more sense in terms of return on investment and profit margin, and would also create more separation between these printers and lower cost siblings.

    • @HoffmanTactical
      @HoffmanTactical  Год назад

      This! I want more heated chamber options. I think we will get there, but fear of safety issues on consumer machines is stifling the market.
