    I followed your "simple" skincare routine and it turned out very effective on my acne prone super oily skin.. my skin is on it's way to being clear, I haven't got a breakout ever since I started your skincare routine. Slow & steady but really effective! Thank you for sharing, you don't know how much you've helped me 😊

    I was doing the k-beauty regimen of about 8 different products and could never figure out why my skin always looked inflamed and congested. I finally went to my dermatologist who suggested a simple skincare routine plus tretanoin (sp?) and my skin cleared up in a matter of days. I found your videos and really simplified, and now I’m down to three products lol.

    I love minimalism, and am always decluttering. My daughter takes after me. Unfortunately, I can't get rid of the hubby's stuff, lol. I've been trying to adopt your simple, less is more, philosophy. It's a lot less stress, rather than worrying about the newest greatest skincare out there, that you can't afford anyway. I have an online friend, we both post on a fitness forum. She has breakout prone skin also, although she's in her 40's, and I'm in my 50's. I got her hooked on your videos, and we were discussing simpler skincare. Although we had to laugh, because we were buying more stuff, trying out different things you've recommended. But it's all more affordable and effective, and less products, so we're getting there!

    Unfortunately these days our skin and how we take care of it tends to be representative of social status over it just being an organ that keeps us covered. Its why playing to peoples vanity is more effective in selling skin care than basic self-care is. I get sucked in, but fortunately that's changing (somewhat) for me. Its definitely something I'm working on.

    I started using The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% about two months ago for my facial rosacea, and it has reduced significantly the flushing that I used to get. The various topical creams prescribed by my dermatologist did nothing for me. Thank you for your awesome videos!

    Hi Dr. Dray! Just here to say I discovered you while looking for information on perioral dermatitis. I was on doxycycline for 2 rounds this past summer to treat my mild case (my skin all over my body was soooo unhappy about that). I was not a fan of my derm who prescribed it to me to begin with and I'm just so SO grateful for your knowledge. I took your advice (which my doctor gave me none of) and I swear it was what calmed and "cured" it. Since then, I have been watching your videos in order - oldest to newest. This is as far as I've gotten so far. I genuinely enjoy following along with your life while learning about proper skincare along the way!!Thanks for being awesome and keeping it REAL!!!

    hi doc. I am back from my 10 day vacation. thoroughly relaxed! how are you doing? this is what I did..
    1. I got an ayurvedic massage called abhyangam.. and guess what they served me as a welcome drink? turmeric chai.. it apparently helps in detoxification. the scented candles there reminded me of you doc
    2. I made your recipe for carrot salad for my young cousins and they loved it. (I used red carrots instead)
    3. I watched a game at a stadium (got amazing seats!)
    4. bought some amazing indus valley inspired earthenware
    5.I truly understood your point on how not splurging on cosmoceuticals enables us to spend on things that actually matter.

    Love your videos! Thank you for your informative perspective as a dermatologist. We can also agree on cosmeceuticals. I do have to address one thing, however: in a lab, we compared the efficacy of 1-1 solution of water and vinegar to bleach, and bleach by far is the best at getting rid of pseudomonas. Vinegar and water was the least effective out of all the other comparisons we used against pseudomonas. Hibiclens was much more effective. I used to always use vinegar around the house until we did that comparison. I suggest instead for every day use (since bleach also comes with fumes), 70% Isopropyl Alcohol as it lyses cells and quickly evaporates. If it's good enough to disinfect lab tables and other surfaces, it's good enough for home usage as well. Also, it's best to switch up how you clean at least once per month, so bacteria doesn't get used to your one method. Hope this info helps!

    I have tried The Ordinary Azelaic Acid for slight rosacea on my cheeks . I found it okay but wouldn't purchase it again . It did sting a little also . Really enjoying your videos btw , finding them extremely useful . I cant believe how much money i have spent over the years on expensive skin care . After watching many of your videos I am now learning so much about products and ingredients . I bought the Neutrogena gel cream moisturiser the other day , it was as cheap as chips and my skin is loving it . !!! Its so much more affordable than what I used to pay !! Thank you so much for all your information !

    I love your apartment! I wish I was more like you with being a minimalist. I am quite the extreme opposite. I have way too much stuff. It's actually a compulsion and I'm not exactly sure why I do it. I think sometimes it's to fill a void. I shop way too much and instead of having one or two of something I have 10! It's something that I know I need to work on. I wouldn't consider myself a hoarder, we can still walk through and function in our house...LOL I just think life would definitely be easier with less stuff! I really admire you Dr. Dray and you inspire me to be a better person! Thank you!

    I am going to check out the matcha in the Lanko brand. I love coffee but I have Lupus and scleroderma with raynaud's so I was told to cut down or avoid caffeine. So matcha has much less. I drink turmeric lattes year round though. I will check out the turmeric elixer as well but I usually just use the turmeric powder and add coconut milk and black or cayenne pepper with a little coconut sugar and cinnimon sometimes.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +4

      I don't have any tips for ladies over age 50 other than the general tips for everyone with skin, and that is sun protection and consistent moisturizer use. I guess a "50+" specific skin rec would be...stop listening to that stupid "anti aging" word. Age = wisdom...but I suppose and "anti-intellect" cream wouldn't sell, lol. I don't put the candle directly into the votive, but rather use a tin-contained tea light or glass mini votive. As far as i am aware it is safe.

    I actually have The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% arriving in a day or two. I'll use it for a bit and come back and post info. I'm getting it for my mild acne. I also have redness, but not really rosacea redness, it's more related to breakouts. I use PC BHA 2.5 which helps a lot, but I feel like I need a little extra help. Hopefully it works. If not, I'm on to Differin. 😁

      UPDATE:
      Here's some info for anyone who's curious!
      So my skin seems to like this stuff! I wasn't sure if it was doing anything for a while, but I decided to keep with it and here recently I notice a difference. It does seem to have reduced my red, painful pimples by a noticeable amount. I can dab a little on a red, open pimple, and the next morning that pimple will by 80% gone. I find it's more effective for me than salicylic acid, no question about it. My skin is smooth and slightly less rosy, with noticeably less acne. As mono therapies go, this was great. I imagine paring it with something else would make it even more effective against some types of acne.
      This itches a decent bit when first applied, but it does away within a couple minutes and there's no burning/pain/redness. I used this once per day, during my night time regiment. I applied this on top of my moisturizer, for two reasons: 1) You cannot apply moisturizer on top of this because it balls up and just feels strange and gross
      2) Buffering seemed to make my skin happier, because this is slightly drying.
      The texture of this stuff is truly bizarre. It's exactly like a silicone based, oil-control primer. It does not spread easily and dries almost instantly. It's a pain in the neck, honestly. Because of this, I ended up applying quite a bit, comparable in volume to the amount of toothpaste you'd squeeze on a toothbrush. But on top of my moisturizer (CeraVe PM) it spread easier and almost seemed to trap the moisturizer against my skin in a beneficial way. It would leave a very matt, dry finish.
      So, there ya go. I'm actually impressed enough that I'm going to seek a prescription for the 15% gel. Azelaic Acid appears to be a keeper for me!

    I use melazepam purchased from Amazon! I believe it's an OTC azelaic acid available in Australia, but it's between 15-20%. It's extremely inexpensive compared to a prescription for finacia, even with how much my insurance covers. I use it for hormonal acne, and the resulting red marks on my fair skin and it works great! I can only use it 2-3 nights a week because of potential irritation, but I alternate with differin.

      My brother has been using it too, despite he has been prescribed Finacea, but he finds the one from The Ordinary works better for him, because the other one breaks him out (so he says). Also he washes his face with a very gentle cleanser from Hylamide, and both things are doing wonders for his skin. It's been a while since I last saw him (we live in different countries), but he swears his skin is better than ever. Next step is to get him into wearing sunscreen!!!!! ;)

    I'd rather take advice from a professional dermatologist than a beauty guru who uses as touts high end stuff when you mention that a lot of it is glorified drugstore skincare anyway. I agree-- less is more, as is the way with most things in life. Although I will say, I just purchased an Olay facial cleansing brush as I was struggling with congestion in my t-zone area--because my liquid exfoliant was not cutting it; and no lie, after 2-3 days of use my skin was 50-75% better with no irritation! I actually enjoy cleansing my skin again.

    Really interesting video. I cannot tolerate tretinoin but find the ordinary retinol 1 % really effective. If I ever get irritated on my neck I use Avene Cicalfate which is brilliant. Question:apart from using spf during the day would you recommend vitamin c for more mature skin?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks! No i don't recommend vitamin c serums because they are just hand waving, as vitamin c is highly unstable and products claiming to have vitamin c are not regulated to demonstrated efficacy, as drugs are; the ordinary retinol is not a true retinoid, and is unlikely to be as effective as a tretinoin at removing sun damaged skin cells and reducing skin cancers

    • @sabineb6984
      @sabineb6984 7 лет назад +1

      Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I will stick with the retinol for now though as I can really see a difference in my skin. .I just know what my skin likes. That's good enough for me. But I will definitely think again about using the vitamin c. That's a very interesting view. I also follow Dr. Sam Bunting here in the UK who uses vitamin c herself. Suppose your approach is more no nonsense and scientific. And I like that.,too. And I agree with you that the most important thing is to use a good broad spectrum spf every day.

    Dr. Drey ... love your videos! I have a skin care question. After being on accutane my son is now dealing with the redness from the acne marks. What are your suggestions to help fade the redness ? The acne is gone just lots of redness. Would you suggest Ambi fade cream. His doctor even prescribed a new rosesha medicine to try but it is $500.00. Thank you!

      best to follow up with treating physician, but no ambi fade cream is not good for post-accutane redness

    Fun watching you getting your place all spiffy! I like the less is more approach. Kind of brings clarity to one's life.
    Question: I have a couple of flaky/dry precancerous little spots or patches on my face frozen a couple of times, but the flakiness always comes back. I suppose I will have to keep having them sprayed frozen unless my usage of tretinoin .025 ends up getting rid of those spots eventually, right? No worries, just curious and I always sunscreen now. :))

    I have been told that the brand Supergoop contains salicylates that is actually a weak sunscreen that comes off easily by sweating and swimming. Darn it, I really enjoyed the sample. Is that an ingredient that you recommend avoiding?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +1

      Pattyann no need to avoid this..but it is a chemical UV filter, that is not great alone at blocking all wavelengths and therefore other chemical (organic) and/or zinc/titanium (inorganic, physical) is added to broaden spectrum.

    My husband recently started on Retin A, but he has no irritation whatsoever. He follows instructions precisely but still no peeling, no redness or anything. Is this normal?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +1

      Everyone is different and much of the irritation is a reflection of both the percentage strength, as well as the burden of pre-existing sun damage. Make sure you follow up with the prescriber, as they may decide to modify the percentage strength.

    Dr Dray, I am currently battling a reactive breakout on my forehead - I believe it may have been from either the Neutrogena Naturals moisturizer/Spf 25 or the Paula's Choice Resist tinted natural spf/moisturizer - so I have reverted back to my usual routine with a chemical spf/moisturizer combo. So, my question to you is what would you recommend to clear this crap up quickly?

    Hi! I used to use just retin a and switched to rectacnyl recently. Is rectacnyl really the same? I noticed the difference of consistency..

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад +1

      No it is not the same. Retin A is an actual retinoid with a long long long track record of blinded unbiased peer reviewed data to back its efficacy and biological function in skin disease. Cosmeceutical retinols are largely useless as they require the skin to perform and additional step on the ingredient in order to get it to an active form. They are not regulated in any substantial manner as far as demonstrating efficacy.

    So I have a good question for you. I have looked at other videos on sunscreen to see what other people like in the physical type sunscreens. I have run across a few diy sunscreen ones in the process. Some people are going as far as to say that it's not healthy to wear it all the time, because you need at least 10 minutes of sun exposure every day to get your vitamin D. They are saying this in reference to children in particular. I was under the assumption that 10 minutes is not enough in the first place to get your required amount,and that you were better of getting it from your food. If I'm correct, could you address that issue. I was thinking that that idea may be far more harmful in the long run, for you and your kids, and that idea has been out there for quite a while.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 лет назад

      I truly hate hate hate this diy sunscreen bs. It is really dangerous and not a safe or effective method of sunprotection. The American Academy of Dermatology, The British association of dermatologist, as well as pretty much every major consensus opinion is that there is NO known amount of sun protection that can either raise your vitamin D levels without subsequently raising your risk for skin cancer;. Therefore, sun exposure is not recommended as a means for obtaining vitamin D. Furthermore, the level of vitamin D which portends optimal immune health in adults is still an ill defined value. I have discussed this in a specific video (dermatologist's thoughts on vitamin D) as well as in q&as (i think this one: ruclips.net/video/A7Yq_b2LgW4/видео.html

    You're awesome. I apologize if you've already answered this but I have extremely dry skin, especially doing the retin-a now. Do you have a very hydrating SPF you'd recommend? I had been using a great one from Paula's Choice but it was discontinued. I've tried the new formulation from Drunk Elephant but I'm having a bad reaction to it and it seems to be pulling the hydration away from my skin. That one was strictly Zinc. I'm at a loss what to try next as my skin is so dry and sensitive from the retin-a.

    • @DrDrayzday

      I like the cerave AM one, but some say it causes "pilling." I also like the neutrogena spf100+ one, but it is a chemical one and needs reapplication, and can also cause irritation/stinging .

    • @rachelbeauregard903
      @rachelbeauregard903 7 лет назад

      Shannon Graham, I think I know which sunscreen you were using. Hydralight and Moisture Boost were the two that were discontinued, right? Anyway, I use PC stuff and love them. I don't buy a kit, I build my own routine. May I encourage you to look at the new CALM spfs? I sampled and loved them, and I use the Moisturizer for oily skin daily. The CALM spf for dry skin is very similar to Moisture Boost and the one for oily is, in my opinion, heaps better than the old Hydralight. Grab some samples! People got so hooked on the old products they won't give the new ones a try, but the CALM lines are so good! Happy Hunting. 😁

    • @ShanGooFan
      @ShanGooFan 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Rachel! Both my kids use the Calm lotions for dry skin so I'll have to give theirs a try. I was using the Resist Daily Defense spf 25. One of the ingredients they couldn't get anymore so they had to discontinue it & reformulate it. The new formula isn't expected until August. Many would find it too greasy but my skin loves it right now because of the retin-a dryness & sensitivity I'm experiencing. I have about 2 days left of it. :( I had such high hopes for the Drunk Elephant Umbra as I'd used the old formula and loved it. But this new formula stings as soon as I put it on and then it seems to aggravate my already sensitized skin. I'm perplexed as this brand is formulated without so many irritating ingredients. It's such a bummer.
