      And there it is, the fatal flaw! I have been burned by early access games before, there are games in my library that will never be completed because the publishers got the money from optimists like you and ran off with it. I won't be fooled again.

    • @AlphaMachina

      Yep, this game is small and mostly devoid of content.

    • @xenn4985
      @xenn4985 3 месяца назад +3

      @@AlphaMachinaidk if you can call 40+ hours of content "mostly devoid"

    • @AlphaMachina
      @AlphaMachina 3 месяца назад +3

      @@xenn4985 The content consists of a handful of enemy types (very little variety), one single memorable boss fight, some red trees to chop down, and single page notes scattered about randomly for "quests."
      That's the full extent of content in this game outside of your average survival/crafting scenario that every one of these games have. It doesn't matter how long the devs made it take you to reach said "content" because time-gating is purpose-made empty content for the sake of padding out what is otherwise lacking.
      Time-gating doesn't count as content. If it did, you could stand in one spot and chop down the same tree over and over again for 40 hours and call it "content."
      Take all of the content in the game and squish it all together, and I could read through all of those notes and kill all of those enemies (one of each) in a matter of an hour or two at the very most.

    • @AlphaMachina
      @AlphaMachina 3 месяца назад +2

      @@xenn4985 My point is, if you condense all of the repetition down to one of each (one red tree, one enemy each, one of each note, one tower, one village) after that, you're just doing the same thing over and over again, and the counter for what's considered "unique content" ceases to go up.
      All of that being said, I think Enshrouded is one of the more polished survival games yet. It's got a lot of potential and I very much look forward to seeing what they do with it in a few years time.
      It's clean and lacking the jank most survival games often have, the crafting and building are well done, it looks great, it performs mostly well, but it's missing enemy variety and depth, the shroud needs to be scarier and more difficult to enter (creepy music plays when you enter, but all you have to contend with are some goofy Fell people and a timer to tell you it's "dangerous").
      The game just needs more going on. But that's early access in a nutshell. At least the devs polished and completed what they do have. I'd give the game a 6/10. In a few years, I'd be willing to bet it'll be an 8/10.

    Is there a good story to give play purpose?
    Is it forced online, taking ownership away from customers?
    How buggy is it, is playing frustrating?
    Is it feature complete or are customers expected to fund _possible_ completion and be beta testers?
    Enshrouded could be another pointless, always online, Minecraft-a-like where we don't really own it or it could be an amazing, genre defining game that draws you in with excellent mechanics and narrative in a consumer friendly way, we have no idea because you didn't answer any of those questions.

    • @Otyrr
      @Otyrr 2 месяца назад

      It has offline solo play.
      There is a lot of lore in the game currently, but you are bordered in by an early access wall at the moment.
      The devs have stated 2025 as their 1.0 release date, but we'll see the rate they are able to roll out updates over the next few months.
      It isn't very buggy for its early access status. The devs have been VERY quick about fixing game breaking things, within a few days of early access dropping.
      The game definitely has a lot to do in it right now, and is very fun to play. If you like base building games, this is definitely a must buy because it has one of the best building systems I've ever come across in a survival/crafting game.

    Enshrouded is ok, its hard to pin it down to " its the new X" its like a mish mash of previous games plus some new stuff, my only issue is the annoying " a new quest to your list every 10 feet until you have so many you don't know where to start", and also it doesn't seem to have a sense of presence, or living in the world, like valheim does.. there is just something it is missing to me.

      @UlissesSampaio when yters compare a game to Skyrim or fallout, it's embarrassing. None of these games are even the same animal. The reason you don't see a lot of 1st person games like this is because it takes more talent and more work. 1st person means you see things up close, so they have to be and look better.

    I got some friends who are mad with the "end game" ... What is the usual end game of survival games like ARK or Minecraft? Explore the world and extend your base. Somehow, they are fine with that in the other games, but they are disappointed by this while playing enshrouded. I don't get it. I'm the one who played it the most with close to 120 hours and even I with this limited map size at the moment have still new corridors, treasures and dungeons pop up, that I have never seen before. Also, I haven't even tried out the other specs by now. Furthermore, it's still an early access and the developers seems pretty cooperative with the player base, so bring those critisisms to them and help the game grow. Cheers mate!

    • @Otyrr
      @Otyrr 2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, the devs have a very strong and open line of communication with the players. I don't think they've done very much to warrant any kind of sour feelings for buying an story driven game that is not content complete yet.
      I was a little disappointed when I hit the current end game because I was enjoying the adventure so much! But its keeping me excited for big content updates in the future that I get to open the game back and dive back in for.
      I actually went back to the game a few times to build a base up that has materials and stuff ready to go for future updates, so I don't have to slog the early game again.

    The game is fun, just not finished. It's early access, so if you go into it with your mind affixed to that you'll be fine. It will be expanded in the months and years to come. I already got my money's worth as I have about 130 hrs in the game and only paid $25 for it. It's more of a RPG than a survival game, but it includes the best part of survival games and not most of the tedium that most survival games come with. Nightingale is a much deeper game, in terms of the survival aspects, but I kept wishing for more of the Enshrouded mechanics in that game.
    The voxel based destructibility of the world is just plain awesome. Many times I had to cut stairs into the side of a mountain to get to my objective and you would always have to keep an eye on the durability of your pick axe and hope that you could make it which caused some tension. Once you get the hang of it, the grappling hook and gliding aspect of the game was just plain fun and you have the ability to put down a base almost anywhere, which is the best way to fast travel. All in all the game is fun and I can't wait for them to expand it.

    I basically finished the entire early access within 2 weeks and got bored with it because there was nothing else left to do. Survival games are all right for a short while but if there's no linear path to follow alongside that open world survival then it honestly gets boring fast. Even radiant quests would be something to do.

    There's no point in building a base in this game, there's no raids or nothing

      The devs have stated they'll add it in the future. They didn't know if people would want it or not, but after the community asked repeatedly for it they started implementing it.

    I'm bored with survival games. I only gave Palworld a chance because it was making Nintendo fanboys and peta go insane.
