Loved it when he was with us, such a silky, graceful yet powerful footballer, and a great finisher.
Quite similar to Henry in style but far more humble and gracious in personality. Love the way he can recall matches he played for us over 20 years ago.
    Great interview guys!⚒️

    Freddie Kanoute was a monster.
Absolute legend. At Sevilla he was a monster

Kanoute was a total enigma of a player. Some weeks he was unplayable and I thought he was going to go up a level and then he’d have a poor game. It wasn’t a complete surprise he reached the level he did at Seville but I never saw him as being as prolific as he became. There was always a player there though.
He speaks really well and comes across as a good bloke. Enjoyed that interview.

We all think of the sliding doors moment against Arsenal. Especially the context - they had won a silly number of games in a row and were untouchable (invincible the following season) and yet we played so well against them (on top for large parts and a penalty conversion away from winning) - did to them what they had been doing to others - and without our star player (Di Canio was injured, I think? Hence Kanouté took the pen). People think I'm crazy when I say "if we didn't go down that season, we would've been European regulars and title contenders". We finished 5th a couple of seasons earlier and that was before Cole, Carrick, Defoe, Johnson were really in the team. Di Canio was wanted by Alex Ferguson, and the first purchase in the Abramovich Chelsea era was our teenager Johnson, followed by Joe Cole. Houllier at the time loved Cole and Carrick, and tipped us to challenge at the top. You'll never see a relegated team have all their players snapped up by the teams at the top of the league. We could've been a real force for the next decade. Look at the kind of goals we used to score back then. Honestly sexy football. Now we're somehow supposed to be content with top half and Europa Conference. I understand why Roeder dropped Di Canio for speaking out but the club needed him to survive! *sighs* What could've been.

That, and how refreshing to have so many of our youngsters treating it up in the league. So many England stars.

This is that day. Just look at the shot from Sinclair before the game has even warned up. Henry got them out of jail with an amazing goal. Context: this was an untouchable Arsenal team and we should've won even without our best player and with youngsters.

Loved Kanoute, he had this knack of dribbling out of tight spaces and leaving players for dead over 5/10 yards. (How did Lyon not see his potential )

Great player. I had never seen a player jump so high and control the ball on his chest ! Sebastien Haller was the only other West Ham player I have seen do this. Was gutted when he went to Spurs but at least we got the Z man in exchange

I remember that debut game so well! It's almost a shame that Paulo scored that pinger as otherwise that game could have been remembered for one of the all time great debut's! He was sensational.
Dont know if I can ever quite forgive him for the move to N17 though 😂

Sadly it was the same year that the winter transfer window was implemented. I think we got caught out because normally you can deal with injuries by buying someone but the winter window meant you had to plan for injuries before hand. So it just turned into a car crash in slow motion. I think that’s the reason we got relegated with the most points ever.

This. I have said this to many people in the past. We basically didn’t adapt to it. We needed a full back and a striker for months but when we could eventually sign Brevett and Sir Les in January we were already bang in trouble.

We all know Kudus is a baller but sadly he'll never win the African Footballer of the Year award, not when you've got Salah and Mane etc still playing anyway
Sadly Salah will most probably win it every year these days but with Mane now wasting his life over in Saudi, you'd hope that our starboy will at least get a nomination #COYI ⚒️⚒️⚒️
