John Lennon - Imagine - What Makes This Singer Great?
If you had to choose your favorite songwriter of all time, who would it be and why?
Let me know in the comments!
Someone once asked me that question and John Lennon was the name that I mentioned. To some that may come as a surprise and even stir some controversy but in this video I'll share why I said that.
To me John Lennon was so much more than just one of the Beatles and his music and songwriting certainly have inspired countless individuals including myself.
How about you? What comes to mind when you think of John Lennon?

I wish I could upvote this a million times. My favourite artist by light years. If the only thing he ever wrote was In My Life he would still be a genius. For a true Lennon vocal listen to This Boy....astounding vocals not to mention his harmonies are legendary. Thanks Ken !!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, John!
John Lennon has long been my favorite musician and inspiration. I've worn his style wire rim glasses for decades and wore my hair like his (until it all fell out). Even have a numbered lithograph of his artwork hanging over the fireplace. Always loved his voice and singing style, too. And to quote Dave Grohl, "that sound that only the back of John Lennon's throat could produce." Thanks much for this Ken, and for the inspirational insight into you, too.
My pleasure! Thanks for the visit!
John is a true legend. Period. It's impossible to imagine rock n roll without him. Johnny conquered my heart in no time. His influence to culture is beyond question! To me his name always associated with peace, love and equality (and round glasses for sure👓). His acerbic wit in music, honest and ingenious lyrics, stunning melodies and his rebellious nature that's all I need. 💗💗
John, we all miss you sooo much and need you soo bad! The world isn't complete without you! 🙏😭💔
And... Imagine is still the most beautiful song ever written.❤🧡💞💖😍
"LOVE" is Lennon's most amazing song. That word L O V E in every single phrase articulated so pricelessly, uniquely.
I LOVE this comment! Thanks, TImothy!
When I think of John Lennon I think of the best lyricist, distinctive voice thin sounding nasal but really awesome.Strong personality and very intelligent not over doing, minimalist that got his point across😊, love him!
Couldn't agree more!
My first impression of Jonhn Lennon as an 8 year old boy in early 1964 was the crack of the whip in John's voice whenever 'It won't be long' came on.
He was also a great and under rated rhythm guitar player.
Most people don't understand Imagine. To those in power who do, it is a threat to their power.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Ardmore!
Even from my youth I resonated most with John Lennon of all the Beatles. He's my fave and I love his songs and even performed "Imagine" (playing piano and singing) at the age of 29 at a group talent show. Thanks for talking about him.
My pleasure, Judie!
John Lennon had a vision. "Imagine" is one of the greatest songs ever written. Yes, John, you are a dreamer - and you're not the only one.
✨🙏✨
😊💛🌈
Absolutely, Rainbow Woods!
John lennon was brilliant but an arsehole at the same time, wife beater, heroin addict, ignored Julian his first son, self centered, made fun of cripples, he was not a nice person. A multi millionaire who imagines no possessions when he owns the top floor of the Dakota building on Central Park, he didn't dream of no possessions.
The Rolling stones are more rocking, but the Beatles' Songwriting is very high quality of course. Lennon was responsible for a big Part of that
Fö hn 👍
😍 thanks for talking about this unique artist!
My pleasure!!
@@kentamplin hey thank u 4 making this RUclips channel
Ken, I’m impressed and glad that you had the courage to come out and talk about this stuff. Usually people don’t talk about this because they don’t want to be embarrassed or mistreated because of what they believe.
I too am a Christian and I absolutely love the song Imagine, it’s brings a weird sort of peace to my heart thinking about all the people in the world not arguing and killing each other but instead we all love each other.
Absolutely amazing video keep it up
Also, can you react to “Is this the world we created?” By Queen? It reminds me a lot of imagine
Thanks 😂
Ok, I didn’t mean to out that emoji and the end
Thanks for the suggestion, Freddie Mercury!
Ken is not only a great singer and teacher but an excellent person who is on fire for our Lord Jesus, thanks for your honesty
John was a great singer, songwriter, and musician. He was part of the most famous songwriting duo's in the world with Sir Paul. Can't believe John is gone 40 years now. Unfortunately everyone knows exactly where they were when the news first broke on Monday Night Football announced by Howard Cosell. By far the saddest event in the history of rock-n-roll.😥😥😥
I agree.
@@kentamplin Thank you Ken!
I know exactly where I was. Never forgot.
You are so right, John Lennon was a very special person and so are you. I love that song. A beautiful poet. All that remains is a dream. Make your dreams come true🌹 🌸 🌺
Well said!

@Jonathan Dorwart Know what?
Interesting video, Ken. I'm a Christian and something of a conservative myself. And yet, I also love Lennon, the Beatles, and I empathize with what the hippies fought for even if it was misguided in some ways. An interesting tidbit... I don't know if you know this but Lennon's views began to change towards the end of his life. There's a recording of him saying that his views had changed alot from his earlier activist years.
"Imagine" is my all time favorite John Lennon song. I was exposed to the song by my father.
Well done, dad! Thanks, Lacy!
@@kentamplin you're welcome Mr. Tamplin
One of my faves from him/them was the album rubber soul, and the song : within you without you and helter skelter, great job again Ken 😀👍
Mine too!
Paul singing Helter skelter was kind of epic
Thanks for sharing the information Ken about John Lennon and about what he went through in his life a little bit that I didn't know love how you share the stories as well man
You're very welcome!
Well thank you very much appreciate it
Say whatever you want about John, but without him and The Beatles there would be no pop-culture as we know it today. He is one of the most influential musicians of all time and rightfully so
Thanks for the thoughts, Sedaw!
I’m a practicing Christian and I truly think Lennon was a great singer. Despite all the political perspectives I may disagree with him, he gave me a chance to think critically and objectively on social issues. I’d be an ultra conservative Pharisee if I isolate myself from other voices.
That positive side about him is so incredible and brilliant!💖
It really is, MJJOY!
AGREE WITH ALL THE POINTS YOU MADE. I admire you even more. You hit the nail on the head. When I think of John one word comes to mind.... simple. I say simple because if you listen to Imagine, he is just posing some basic questions that apply to all folks. He may have been a complicated man, but musically, his best gift was his SIMPLISTIC MESSAGING.
Thanks, Heather!
I agree with everything you just said Ken. Thanks for the thoughtful video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
When you see the world in a way that the world doesn't see it you get killed. This other musician from my home town was mysteriously murdered last week and prior to his death he was becoming vocal on religious, social and political issues. So it's incredible how you just told the story of Lennon which almost reflects what just happened to this musician from my hometown.
I'm sorry to hear that! Terrible!
Ken, John Lennon great Artist who's songs communicated his messeges to the listeners really well with great compositions. Definatley had much more to give musically but his songs will live on!!
Absolutely, vocality!
I love Imagine, the ultimate song about Peace.
Thanks, Yael!
I loved John Lennon. To me it is so sad that he fought so hard to stay in the United State . He absolutely loved New York City and was killed there.
When ever I say this I don't think people get it. They say well a lot of people are killed in New York.
Maybe because I grew up in the sixties and saw him marching for peace and civil rights. Our government was even afraid that he was too big of an influence in the United States and tried to keep him out.
I am not good at putting my thoughts down on paper but I hope somebody understands what I am trying to say.
John Lennon made a lot of mistakes but he does not deserve all the hate.
Very sad. Thanks for the thoughts, Mary.
All the British bands at that time were living elsewhere because of the tax rate.
No other British rock star was being investigated by Richard Nixon. John's a influence with the 18 to 21 year olds was strong that is why he had to fight to live in the United States.
I think people that get angry at "Imagine" take it too literally. It´s not a political document, it´s art. Sometimes you express things in art to provoke, to convey an emotion. It doesn´t have to be true or right. Most sensible people understand that what he´s proposing in Imagine isn´t pragmatically possible, but yet we can relate to the frustration he´s feeling, and imagining an impossible utopia for 3 minutes creates a nice beautiful sensation. That´s art!
😀👍
I love everything you stand for. I think the same too. peaceful views. PS I'm from Liverpool John's home town"
Thank you so much, J!
Thank you for these Ken. I'm loving watching these series in the morning during breakfast!!
Enjoy!
7:43 YESSSSSSS!!!! #THATPART!!! You hit it on the nail!!! Live life to please God not others!!! Love it!!! Thank you for sharing this! I am the same way I WANT TO KNOW TRUTH!!! FACTS!!! #Speak!!! I absolutely Love this song!!
Rock on, Shawnna!
I don't know how old you are but the world lost a great man when we lost John Lennon 💔.
I agree, Paddy!
Yesss been waiting for this, you should check out when John did “how do you sleep” when he was in the studio. His vocals and his light distortion is perfect.
Thanks for the tip!
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope some day you will join us and the world will live as one.
I would have love John to perform live a full show in 1981 just like Paul did in the 90s and beyond. So sad he was taken so early from us.
Gone too soon. A real tragedy!
Thank you. A lovely interpretation I think of what he was trying to say.... A nice insight to your personal philosophy as well. Well done and thank you for sharing...
Thanks for the visit. Rock on!
Lots come to mind when I think of John Lennon. Sometimes I hear Just Like Starting Over and it makes me tear up, cause he never really had the chance to start over.
I hear Watching The Wheels and I can relate to letting everyone go crazy (with not wearing masks and the current political climate) while I still live my life.
I more gravitated towards McCartney's post-Beatles career, but I've learned to appreciate John's more over the years. He definitely had a style all his own. I dunno if I could hold a bed in for peace or say some of the things he said with a straight face, but man: he stuck to what he felt. And I'll always admire that.
As I started writing my tribute to him back in October for his 80th birthday, I had to stop a couple times as I was tearing up...thinking about what could've been and not what was and look back and smile at all he did in his short 40 years. It's hard to put to words what someone means to you after they're no longer with us. Paul's induction speech for him to the Rock and Roll HOF sure was great....❤️
Ken, your summation of Imagine is great. What if we saw us all as human beings? Not based on sex, skin color, religion, wealth...yada yada yada. It's a beautiful thought and something we STILL need to strive for....getting along...
To me he was many things: a singer, a poet, an activist and most importantly: a person who didn't sit on the side lines and watch the world go by. He had a unique voice and a message for us all.
On a cold December night almost 40 years ago he was taken from us...but the music, the message and the spirit of lives on today as strong as it did 40-50 years ago. I'm so glad him and Paul met.
Anyways, before this turns into an essay I better stop. Great video and great insight! Not only are you a great singer, but you have a great mind and put across what you say rather well.....☮️❤️👏
Thank you for sharing such tender thoughts! I appreciate it!
Ken , first off YOU ROCK!!!! Can you do some lessons on relaxation and breathing, I know you have a couple of lessons briefly on these two subjects, can you go more in depth. Maybe I’m thinking too much about it and get tense . Not sure 🤔 Thanks it would be so appreciated.
I cover it thoroughly in my course! kentamplinvocalacademy.com/

Yep, Calvary Chapel Kaneohe. We also went evenings to Bill Stonebreaker’s Calvary Chapel in Aiea for extra learning. In Kona it was a church led by Travis Scott who studied woth Chuck Smith.
@@AMRADIO777 Great teaching, I'll bet!
Your most 'ranty' clip by far. I like that you make yourself vulnerable, occasionally. I agree that 'communes' don't work in the long run. Maybe that's why John asked us to imagine it, rather than to actually try to create it. Around the time of "Help" and "In my life" John became a great lyricist who could bare his soul as well as address larger issues. John Lennon was my father's favourite pop composer because of the quality of his songwriting and lyrics and his personable performances. 'Isolation' 'Look at me' 'my mummy's dead' 'because' so much great music.
Thanks for the thoughts!
Brings back memories of my childhood. It seemed not a day went by and my little brother was playing Beatle's records. I never got over John's death. It still makes me sad to hear his solo songs
Someone once asked him about death. He said something like 'I'm not afraid of death. I don't believe in it. It's like getting out of one car. into another.' So, he obviously did believe in the afterlife..... even if he didn't follow a specific Religion. I just saw a video of Julian and Cynthia talking. Julian said that John told him if anything happened to him and he moved along, to think of him whenever he saw a white feather blowing around in the wind,
Hey hey hey!!! Look what have we here! Can’t wait to watch it!
Hope you enjoy it, Nicolas!
Wow, great as usual...proof is in the singing....
Just for a clarification, I have seen all the latest videos that you have published on Dimash on your Dimashathon series, is that series OVER????? (I pray it is not)
If not , waiting for more!!!!

Taking a little break from Dimash, now, Abhinav. Glad you enjoyed the Dimash-a-thon!

Hi I also am a Christian and also hold the view about John Lennon being misunderstood by Dogmatic Christians.what a nice surprise to hear your views in the middle of this singing video, 😊
This was I believe Lennons last live performance.
hey, just found out about you and i've been watching your videos all day and they are great! 2 things: you were listing Lennon songs and you said "get back", which was a McCartney song...not to call you out , but......(2) have you ever done Art Garfunkel? I think that would be a good one. Thanks!
Not taking away from his talent, no denying he was so influential, but reading about how crappy he treated his son Julian made me sad.
Yeah, not good.
Jo fast speaker, best regards from Europe ! Got webproblems wath sholld i say WWW its a maze ! Must declay but he was Kill, bei a shut of a loaded gun ! Indeet web iis a maze ( Irrgarten we named This ! ) but give a shit ,tired iam max god bless you End !
Julian has come to terms with it now. He knows John was in an impossible situation. If you look at how busy the Beatles were, there was no time to be a family man. They were starting to communicate well just before he died. Also have to consider that John's father walked out when he was 2. He didn't have the male role model that might have helped him with Julian. It wasn't all bad for Julian, he had fun playing the drums on this ruclips.net/video/nSkX4mU3kD8/видео.html. They did spend time together, just not often enough. He was there for Sean, but it was much easier for him to take time out of his solo career.
He was a flawed individual, for sure.
Everyone has made mistakes in their lives. There are two sides to every story. My grandfather had a saying
"Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see."
Meaning, question everything. If you read or see something, ask more questions. Just don't take anything at face value.
✌❤🎶😁
This song is very poignant now, especially with what's going on in the world. I have the privilege of performing this song as John Lennon in a jukebox musical touring Florida. Always have loved this song for the melody, lyrics, and his voice. Thanks again Ken for your video!
Calvary Costa Mesa, the swap meet and In and Out burger! Great memories from the early 1990s living in Costa Mesa. My dad always said that he hated “bug music” the Beetles. He then followed it up saying without them we wouldn’t have all the great music we have today. (1970s) The point is even He recognized they were special and over the years what they accomplished is legendary!
Ringo as Atoog in The Caveman movie is pure genius!😄
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Some family members of mine would disagree …but I believe John Lennon was a dreamer and he just wanted to “imagine” hence the song what it would be like to not fight amongst ourselves…how many have fought in the name of religion … he was promoting peace and love … to find that middle ground ?
I want to improve my vocal range And I start watching your vids sir
Awesome!
Thank you. I forgot how much he influenced my way to hear ,feel and see the music. You brought a new lite for me ,to see this song. And honestly, this song made me to take a distance from his music. Now he is back again.God bless you !
Thanks so much for listening, Gheorghe!! Appreciate that!
John Lennon was a very outspoken person who spoke about peace and harmony. He also hated his voice, so he had effects like double tracking used on his vocals during his time with the Beatles and as a solo artist.
Thanks, Benji. Appreciate the thoughts!

Acts 2:44-45 To understand the 3rd verse of the song Imagine.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Thank you!
Hey Ken, you are a very very very nice person! Thanks for your hard work! :)
So nice of you! I appreciate that!
John wasn't "into" eastern religions. The Beatles were invited to spend time with the Maharishi Yogi in 1967.
While there,he (John) was not impressed by the Maharishi and felt that the Maharishi only invited the Beatles to heighten his own notoriety and ego which John could see and feel. In turn he wrote the song Sexy Sadie (from The White Album). The only member who embraced the religion was George Harrison. He embraced the Hare Krishna tradition till the day he died. John also wrote the song Dear Prudence ....also from The White Album about the sister of Mia Farrow who both also attended the Maharishi outing or commune(?)
Have a great day!

This was an amazing video ken. It's really important to know your personal views on someone as amazing as lennon himself! Would be great if you could do a how to sing like john lennon video! Like the paul mccartney one, would be really really helpful!
I hope to do one! Thanks for listening!
This is a cool story. As a believer, I relate to your perspective. I'm a big Beatle fan. I've always been drawn to George the most. I admire his solo career after the band broke up. He often sang about his religious beliefs. My Sweet Lord, for example. He was all in, even if Beatle fans didn't like it. He had to "fight" to get the west to be open minded to what he and others were doing. While I don't ascribe to the same religion he did, I really admire his fervency and honesty in those songs. In a way, his music transcended just being for Krishna followers only. It's spiritually versatile. That's craftsmanship!
Thanks for the visit. Rock on!
I've just really been getting into the beatles and especially lennon's voice, I wish had a voice like his and write like him, the beatles are my favorite now and he's my favorite singer
Indeed! Rock on!
For sure I misunderstood the title. I thought you were going to discuss his vocal, with you being a vocal tutor an all. I wish you had.
Noted!
I dig the lyric ability & musicianship of John Lennon. I proudly wear my peace mask daily. Yes, give peace a chance for all of us. ✌️🤟💕🎶🤓
Groovy Gal ✌️
"imagine" is one of the greatest songs of all time.
Metal Guru👍
Most of it was written by Yoko as John later admitted
Thanks Ken. A great talent.
Thanks for listening!
I think “no religion” would be totally in the spirit of Jesus (and probably other historical or imagined figures): tolerance and love for everyone. It’s not in the spirit of most religious institutions that think that “their” institution is the best or only the one. In this way it’s a song that preaches love your neighbor, no matter who he is.
Aaah, wouldn’t it be wonderful if nothing escalated like it does at the moment in France for instance?
Thanks for the thoughts!
Communism is a wonderful concept but completely unrealistic. But the US is so far away from even moderate socialism which should not at all be confused with communism. It’s just social security, the State pays for essential medical care and State ownwership of essentials like water supply for instance.
@@yaelv4712 There is no pure capitalist country anywhere not even the USA which is very right wing among all the other Western democracies. The State owns some essential services such as the post office, fire brigade, police force etc for the overall good of the people. It is just that some countries are more balanced in their politics and economics rather than heavily rely on profit based private corporations. In the Nordic countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and even most other Western European countries the State provides free health care or very cheap affordable service, free public university or very affordable ones and many other social security safety nets to protect people from falling down into poverty and yet these European countries still allow the accumulation of wealth through the liberty of individual and private enterprise and have not fallen into dictatorship or full blown socialism. All free capitalist democracies are in actual reality MIXED economies relying on both some elements of socialism and some elements of capitalism...it's just some are more leaning to the left and some like the USA leans very much to the right while many others adopt a more balanced in the center system. The mantra in America is "freedom" but ask any American how free they are when they travel around their own country with no or very little money....not so free after all especially if they are stricken with a massive illness.....people should be free from dying silly for lack of basic medical care in affluent countries at least. And Frank Zappa was right when he said "communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff". 🤣

excellent!!
I think John Lennon's solo career was great. He wrote about what he was going through. The emotion in his lyrics and his vocals are so strong, it's hard not to be moved by the songs. I didn't like the lyrics to "Imagine" at one time, but then I understood that it isn't preaching, it's just asking people to think about it. We should all try and imagine what life would be like if the reasons why we fight each other weren't there.
Thanks for the thoughts! Good ones!
IMHO. John was the voice of a generation and all the possibility. He is clearly my favorite rock singer. Based on ability, phrasing, pitch melody message imagination, ambiguous poetry, hope, dispare. In regard to imagine. He himself said is is a socialist manifesto the he didn't believe in. He had to sugarcoat it for people to listen and accept it. In the end John Slammed social as crybaby kids crying in thier basement because they didn't get what the want. He was so many things and evolved. Double FANTASY us one of my favorite albums. It was dreamy menacing childlike and reflective all in one.
Thanks for the thoughts, Tom!
I am a Christian too, Ken. I agree with you that John Lennon's vision is not feasible on this earth due to man's greed and depravity. Borders around nations, that is God's idea. All Lennon really wanted was heaven without the Christ of heaven. I wish we lived in 2020 in America, though, like he speaks about in this song. I can "imagine" how Lennon would be influencing music today in a huge way if he were still alive.
Thanks for watching, SA T!
He's real. That's not easy. One of the best to express his thoughts and feelings. Imagine is about communism and utopia. For me the world going there. I am from a third-world country - Egypt. Just think for a moment about the barriers between us now and in the past! different countries, different cultures, it is becoming less and less important! Even think about the rich and poor. The difference is getting less and less. I am talking about money. I am talking about things we have, things we enjoy. Think about Music! are we in a communist musical world now? Yes. Everyone everywhere can listen to all music from all over the world! This is communism. Imagine
Eliminate the 7 deadly sins... pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. Then we will have Peace on earth, Unfortunately, this will never happen, Sadly. Cool Vid Ken!
Thanks for the visit, Tommy!
I really liked your point that the best songs are ones that challenge your perspective. I agree a lot of people are afraid to speak out against their chosen doctrine, be it religion or political correctness. It's another reason I really admire John, because he was never afraid to speak his mind.
I'm glad we agree, Charlie!

Btw, Who do you prefer John or Macca?
I feel the exact same way about Neil Peart and his songwriting. Rush was purportedly a atheistic band. Although I really do question that at times with Neil's writing. Even if it were true. As a Christian it made me examine the mannerisms of other Christians and myself. To see if we are acting logically. I must say that Rush had actually strengthened my faith. It's almost like a check in balance thing.
Great songs are thought provoking. Music is a powerful medium, isn't it?
@@kentamplin It sure is Ken. Although, it's hard for most people to understand these things due to a bias one way or another.

Hi teacher,
This video is definitely like history of art and to me your opinion is in purpose to find as you say more truth, that adds more meaning to the topic which is so nice. Reminds me of the reflexions I used to have with my teachers at the career of interior architecture and painting, I miss a lot those times. I not think that there is provocative behavior, there is no mockery, neither aggression by your side. Society needs to give up on repression and subordination.
Trying to be as compassionate as possible, after I heard an interview to Paul from The Beatles, I really thought that probably Jhon left because was giving time to know more about his new couple, and during that time he probably got inspired to write about that new period of his life. If he presented his romantic lyrics to The Beatles probably would have taken more time to convince them to accept those lyrics. As we can see the style was kind of different too to The Beatles music in that time. John and Paul were so good, so original, so like brothers, that maybe sometimes got difficult to agree on the lyrics. So I imagine that with one of them having a couple it would have been more difficult to deal with this new experience from the life of Jhon arising. I think he (Jhon) did right to prevent any stress with the group, he didn't force anyone to accept his lyrics, and very considered with the group decided to step to a side.
In regard of 'Karma' or that 'Justice' happened by itself. I personally think it has nothing to do with the separation of the group. The threats from the public to famous people is a fact and also happened to Queen, Lady Di, etc. It could be good to discuss what makes some people not be able to control their emotions, because this is what leads to have an altered mind, altered thoughts, altered actions.
My comment got long but is because I think the subject was interesting. The silence though from Jhon I think is what led to many doubts, I really understand if he couldn't speak having a lot of people after and him having his new experience probably not fully resolved. So sad!
Thanks for the thoughts, LLamas!
I also heard that the guy who killed John was aiming for yoko but missed. Apparently he was a Beatles fan and he was made at yoko for supposedly breaking up the Beatles.
I really don't know...
remember he was writing these songs during the Vietnam war. lots of turmoil in the 70's.
Thank you Jeanette.
Ken, I'm a guitar player, singer and customer of yours, as I've bought your singing program (which I've only scratched the surface of but it has already made a noticeable improvement in my singing--to the point that I sang lead in my band's cover demo of Horse With No Name). I'm also a HUGE Beatles fan and put their talents and abilities at the very top of the musical spectrum. That said, you asked for our opinions so I'll give you mine. Sorry if I ramble on but I think you'll understand, as we seem to have that in common, among other things.
First, I agree with you 100% that John Lennon was a brilliant songwriter and that the song, "Imagine" is a perfect example of that. So, in terms of his talent, I could not agree with you more.
I also believe that the same song is a hard-sell for socialism and godlessness. I have lived under socialism as have some of my friends from Cuba, Venezuela, the old Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. Those of us who have lived under that system know how terrible it is. Yes, dreamers and altruistic persons believe it can work and I don't think they're bad people for believing that. They just don't live in the real world and have no real world experience with socialism.
So, while I completely agree with you about Lennon's mastery as a songwriter, I see "Imagine" as a hard sell for an ideology that is brutally repressive and hypocritical to the extreme. (Party leaders have all the wealth and power and ordinary folks have no way of voting them out.) So, in a sense, it's like saying that Nazi Germany's SS officers had really sharp-looking uniforms without agreeing in the slightest what those uniforms stood for. I get it. The designers and tailors that made those uniforms were great at their craft and I can respect and admire that while completely disagreeing with what those uniforms and Nazi Germany represented.
In closing, thank you for opening your heart to us. Carry on, brother.

John Lennon is my #1 idol for music

If you think about it, this song Imagine almost describes the world as it will be when Jesus returns. Hell will eventually be destroyed and Heaven will be on earth. Knowing Jesus is everything! I think way back when John was quoted as making some stupid comment about The Beatles popularity being greater than Christianity and or Jesus caused a huge backlash that they never quite lived down. Sad that John died at 40 years young shot in the back by a lunatic. Hey Ken, the work you did for Africa is awesome! Great to hear about that part of our recent history. Thank you.
Thanks for the thoughts, Moto! Appreciate them!
Thank this is awesome
Glad you enjoyed it, The Miinecraft Gamer!
This songs message makes me think of the well known Scottish saying "We're all Jock Tamson's bairns(children)" , basically meaning at the end of the day we're all human beings or if you're religious you could take it to mean "We're all god's children". I think you highlighted that well in a fair and balanced way, always looking at the positives.

and John is singing with gum in his mouth... lol... I saw that Bob Dylan said he thought John was the best singer he'd ever heard... big praise... : ) I have to add I love John...
Rock on!
Hey Ken.
Do you ever do any videos for metal ( guttural / brutal stuff ) singers? I know its not what you normally cover.. but i bet you still have some good advice for us. Stuff like Warming up / getting low / how to use the microphone correctly etc. something like that would be super useful
Great suggestions, Greg!
In some song JL shines, in others he seems like just ok, but I guess also depends on vibe.
Thanks for weighing in!
I would probably rank him #1 even over guys like Dylan, Cohen, Reed, Simon, Iggy, Freddie, Ozzy, McCartney, Harrison, Roger Waters, etc as a rock lyricist. Maybe only Freddie has the same clarity, directness, annunciation, and message in his lyrics.
Thanks for the visit! Rock on!
Can you do a how to sing don’t close you eyes kix?
Thanks for the suggestion, Carmine!
Great, Ken!
Maybe Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder in this series?
Both are amazing, skilled singers and very influential.
Definitely! Both are great!
I love the song Woman also
