This shows one of my favorite types of antagonists. The quiet ones, the ones that are slow to anger. They are, in my opinion, the best kind of villains as they are the most intimidating.
Fallen with Denzel Washington has a similar antagonist and is still one of the few movies that gives me chills. The “Beware my wrath” scene is a perfect example.
Till date I feel this is the best description of Lucifer on the big screen, ripped him right out of the bible and pasted him there... good looks, fluent speaker, charmer, embraces the dark coz he was cast from the light
He's reading in the pitch dark (didn't catch which book). It's 1916 but he's wearing a Jimi Hendrix shirt. He casts a rear shadow but theres no light source in front of him. He turns on lights as he moves for he is Lucifer (bringer of light).
Amazing. I do believe I just sat there with my jaw hanging open and a stunned expression on my face at the end of Smith's/Lucifer's monologue about the concept of "now."
This is the only portrayal of Lucifer that has in any way scared me. "do not speak to me of time, demon, it's simplest ebbs and turns elude your meagre understanding. Find another way, NOW". It sounds almost as cheesy as any other line written for lucifer over the years, but Smith's delivery makes it believable. The dude has charisma.
I like how they constantly frame Will as Lucifer as bigger than Crowe’s Pearly. Pearly is shot with the camera facing down towards him, while Lucifer is looked up at in every frame. It’s a good way to establish who has true dominance in the scene. Even when Lucifer is getting up, Pearly is pictured as tiny compared to him.

Will Smith's portrayal of Lucifer is beautiful - right up until the director or producer or production company decided to ruin it with that last second of CGI. The scene did not need, it stood perfectly on its own. It was like watching to most magnificently prepared meal being brought to your table only to have the service staff drop it on the floor.
