This is a great review. My experience... I have all of the TC 6000 Native Plugins and 3-System 6000 MKI's and one MKII! All of mine have Mastering, Stereo and Multichannel Reverbs, and the incredible Massenburg HI-Res MDW eq. The Massenburg sounds much better than the plugin I have also. I think TC discontinued the Massenburg for the System 6000. Comparing the plugins to the 6000 hardware, the hardware wins for me. There's a gentleman that has done a comparison like I did and also agrees that the hardware wins. You would not know this unless you have used them both. The Native MD4 does add a couple of other controls but...not enough for me to dump my hardware. Also, the MD4 and VSS4 is a processor hog if you want multiple instances. It's sad that BEHRINGER.... has abandoned the 6000 Hardware development and maybe the plugins too. I've dove deep into my hardware and have come up with some ways to make mine fairly future proof. As far as VSS4 HD Reverb in the hardware it is great. But, I have a Bricastic which totally wins for rooms and vocal reverbs. MD4 for mastering with my hardware unit is a straight up WINNER!! Good review!
i think it's time for a TC Electronic - VSS4 HD Native Reverb versus Relab - VSR REV6000, and a LiquidSonics - Cinematic Rooms as a runner up maybe. Would be a banger comparison of the most real-life sounding reverbs ITB.
I have a TC Reverb 4000 in my system which is a lovely reverb unit and I always was wondering what a 6000 system is capable to do. I will look for it this way and I believe it will bring me a good picture of possibilities. Thanks for making this David!
Ahh! I'm so happy you're bringing attention to these! I found these a couple years ago and kept missing the summer sale. Last summer, I caught it. I bought the whole bundle, which is overkill, but I use md4 with a fixed preset often. It just works and sounds incredible. The reverbs are GREAT. As you say, smooth is the adjective for all the TC electronic stuff. If you catch the sale, you can get "everything" for $695 (if I recall correctly). BTW, that's an AMAZING song....
Oh yeah, it's so rare a master needs some reverb. But when it does and you can pull something high quality out of your toolbox to do the job, you'll be glad to have something like this around (I'm an SP2016 man myself). I've mastered probably close to 500 songs at this point and I think I've added reverb on two or three, for reference. And one of those it was automated out, so it was only on the intro before the drop.
Funnily enough those are some of the least talked about but best tools ever. I almost feel like people wanna keep them a secret! I got all of em and love em. Also the VSS3 is great it's not such a resource hog while still having the classic sound and even more flexibility when it comes to room shapes etc.
Hello David! Thank you very much for the deep dive in your videos. I’m watching a lot of your episodes. But today you picked very much interesting thread for me - tc electronic stuff… I was recently comparing a quality of compression&limiting up to 8lufs by plugins and tc finalizer… and to my big surprise - Finalizer processed track with a headroom and breath in a sound, and plugins made track squashed…and that made me very curious of what the exact heck is goin on ))) I was literally asking myself if I need to continue investing in other limiters… I do understand that it’s very subjective comparison, but … that outdated box by tc electronic made -8lufs sound very good. And I’m very curious about tc software for mastering, they definitely know about this sphere a lot…😅
@@mixbustv thanks David. That feature is worth having by itself let alone how great it sounds. In a world of countless plugins all doing the same thing having one like this is what people should get.
The MD4 looks pretty great. I love what the Toneprojects Unisum does but I recognize they are different beasts. For reverbs, I’ve shot this out against Seventh Heaven Pro and Cinematic Rooms Pro from Liquidsonics and I wasn’t swayed. Nice examples, though.
The only problem with MD4 that I have is that it is so insanely powerful, you can completely ruin a master if you don't know what you're doing. I'm a mastering engineer and still struggle to not overcook a master using MD4.
hey David, did you try the Relab VSR REV6000 ? you can request it (as owner of discontinued VSR-S24), is still in beta but already pretty stable, it's really awesome, check it out!
David - discussing here bout Tc system 6000 & it's comparative plugin. Le me - mixing and mastering my own produced songs that too in the box without any analog gear, then comparing them with top charting hits & trying to find the reason of difference in sound 😂😭💀
@MixBusTV I see you are using mid-field monitors by Eve Audio. Could you share your experience in a nutshell and mention why you pick it instead an Adam Audio or HEDD alternatives?
Thank you for illustrating some settings that I don’t know before. Can use of my old machine but still waiting for M1 compatible version to use on my new Mac
Some people on Gearspace say that the TC Electronic reverbs and limiters don't sound the same as the hardware versions, even being all digital. I wonder how much of that is nitpicking...
@@mixbustv you have been a mixing inspiration since I joined your channel. Because of you the Black Box and the Maag Eq4 stay on my chain. I can’t afford most of what you have. But the tools I was able to get have been helpful.
@@mixbustv omg. She is nailing a different style so well i wasn't quite sure it was her, despite some of those recognisable soft tones. I love this video. The track is good and the processing sound so freaking transparent.
THANK YOU SO MUCH ! I was desperately looking for an extensive explanation of these 2 plugins. Best "tutorial" on the subjects ever.
I bought this plugin couple years ago and never touch it since then, until now. This video changed the game for me. Thanx and congrats!
Love the Star Trek Next Generation UI, sounds great too, love hear a shoot out vs Softube Weiss

Plugin is great but comparing to my 6000 it does not null and the hardware sounds slightly better. But plug-in is really powerful as well
Actually, they found some bugs in the original algorithm that have been fixed with this.
Glad I got to learn more about one of my favorite reverbs!
