Yup, when I saw your name in the preset list I thought this vid would happen. I really love this one, really versatile like you said, lots of body, great tone, and the headroom gain is major. Real glad you like it also, great work man 🤘🏾
Really needs some type of auto-gain/link for input/output controls, also needs a better preset selection menu (having to click, scroll into sub-menus is awkward). The sound is very impressive though!
Corrections to video. AA plugins do not all come with an alternative UI. Also, many do not oversampling. They only introduced oversampling in the past 1 year. They have re-written their core code base, called Hyper. The old one, called Core, has been partially retired and AA update their old plugins at a rate of 2 per year (Out of 40+). None of their plugins worked in Logic 1.7.5 in 96khz sessions until Apple updated MacOS in the past three weeks. Since Monterey was released, many AA plugins didn't work. That's a long time. And AA did nothing except release new plugins every week.
All you say is Apple's fault. Why would developers have to spend money to adapt their plugins continuously to new Apple Os which don't care at all about other architectures and are only Apple centered? They just want people to focus exclusively on their own products (Logic etc) and they do it very well.
@Raz Tube complete nonsense. Right now I'm working in one of the best Atmos studios in the world which has (among other 6 machines) the absolute best apple computer money can buy, and I mean something you don't even find in store nor is available to the public, and it in no way shape or form any "faster" than windows, surely not 100x, on top of that, even if it was and I reiterate, is not, it would have zero impact on the DAW itself which is purely based on CPU power and RAM. Even with optimization, you'd have probably a 2% better performance with 300 times (threehundred times) the price. Apple IS trash, the company is nothing more than the biggest money grab operation. Drop Apple, all your problems will be gone. Don't and you pay the price and depends on their policy. But that's user choice, not AA's fault.
I wish they would consolidate their vsts into one plugin. Having a separate ZL plugin version vs just making it a mode in one plugin is a slight annoyance with them.
Wait, are you talking HG-2 hardware or plug-in? Because if you're talking HG-2 plug-in it's not even a battle. Free saturators are better than that, Jam obliterates the plug-in.
@@mixbustvBlack Box H2 the plugin. I used to love it. Now my taste for saturation has changed. After this video and trying both plugins myself I choose Jam.
The Blackbox is just realised fromm AA. The name is Dynamic saturater. I got it. little tricky to learn to use it right. But its so much better then Blackbox plugin. I have that thing too. AA is better
Looks pretty like ASH from AA with some added features and more clipper models. But I love the gain compensation on ASH. The release rate of AA is so high atm, new plugins every week, hard to follow and check them all. Few weeks ago ASH was mentioned as the best clipper collection and now this one. Wondering how they can create all these new tools in just a short time.
I do not need another Saturator. And I do not like the interface, but boy does it sound good. Had to buy it, cause I used it all over today's mix 🤣 I just wish that the saturation ranges/gain were more similar when switching modes.
Hey great video .. i just have one question .. what is the mix type? I just purchased the plugin and i see there are a bunch of options.. can you explain what that is?
David, so Acustica Audio Jam and Ash can already take place of Oxford Limiter? Would it work if applying AA Jam or Ash on the mix bus and Oxford Limiter or Inflator on the master channel? Or AA Jam or Ash on master channel can really be great and enough, and louder over Oxford Limiter or Inflator?
But how does Acustica-audio handles saturation if using IRs? Unless I am misinformed, IRs can capture frequency responses but not harmonic content. Do they use algorithm?
The Softube Harmonics Saturation Processor is my favorite, but I'm about to watch this video. Maybe I can have another "favorite." I can't imagine getting rid of my Softube plugin. It has an amazing sound & is easy to use.
They’re pretty different beasts. Softube is a flexible audio model, whereas this is actually sampled from hardware with dynamic IRs. Both are useful for different tasks
was just going to ask how it compares to the P42. I'm on week 2 of the demo and it is killer...but it's also almost $300. If this is comparable, I'd go Acustica!
It would be nice to change the type of saturation without going into the menus, as it is now I find it very boring. Anyway over 3gb but it doesn't seem crazy to me as a saturator, and I speak as a fan of AA
Giancarlo the Acustica Audio CEO says "The big knob is a kind of threshold. It’s like a compensated input. You move along a sampled curve, and it often changes slope at various points, and sometimes it even doesn't have a monotonic pattern. It depends on the model."
Nice video. What I don't like to Acustica Audio is that they had Nebula, the best mixing tool ( I take no opinion on that's the best😅) and never made it easier, better, user friendly.. it's like they abandoned this tool.. - Now, they have fantastic way of making plugins, the "convolution" type that's the best ( after Nebula) for bringing close to real hardware 3dness, livelyness. And they are going into "algorithmic" type making plugins. It's soooooo WRONG. They care for cpu in an era that you can freeze tracks and cpu becoming better & better. There is a market for Algo type plugins and is huge. Why what it made them precious as a company, letting it back step by step for 2nd time? - In guitar plugins/hardware world, most companies go to "profiling/ capturing" type method that have been superior to Algos/ Modeling. See Kemper, Neural, Tonex, NAM and more. Profiling/ Capturing in amps is related to convolution in mixing hardware units. - Acustica, if a new company try to emulate Nebula or old Acqua convolution type plugins, will have no place to stand. ( See comparison videos of old Acustica plugins vs new Acustica plugins with hyped/oversampling/algorithmic type, see that old sound better 9/10)
Too bad acustica SUCKS for pc. IT CONSTANTLY CRASHES MY PC. Absolutely unusable. Acustica has to deal with this issue that has been going on forever. I just built a new pc 2 months ago with the latest parts (a beast) and it still crashes if i use more than one instance of any acustica plugin. Such a shame because their plugins sound great. Until they dont fix these issues i highly suggest you stay away from acustica plugins if you are on windows.
@@mixbustv i guess you’re lucky because this is my 3rd build and have had a problem on every system. I can run the plugin, but when I run multiple instances my cpu just crashes. I don’t have issues with any other plugin I own. Are you running intel or amd? I’m on intel system. I’m also running cubase, I wonder if it’s an issue with vst?

Headphone help wit "headroom" for vocals when recording?
What is that when you gain it to alomost maximum - "phasing" like mids going vanished?
Sometimes when I test sats I use a simple track with a synth and drums (mono) and I clip the mono channel more to hear the limits of it.
Awesome awesome video!!
Very tasty sounding indeed!
how do you like jam compared to ssl fusion?
Fusion plugin? Jam is better. HW? I don't see how it could be comparable
How does it compare to ASH? Is there even a reason to get ASH now?
ASH is much much more subtle and meant to be as transparent as possible, just like converters clipping. This is a color box
Drop down menus 🤦 did they not include arrows so you can quickly audition them? I think I’ll stick with Kelvin…
Can somebody expaplain the difference between turning up the input and turning up the gain. Thanks
Not much. You use the input for macro level adjustment, gain to fine tune the clipping and GR

@@Rolanoid very interesting, thanks!
Is the EQ Shelf before or after the Saturation? Because the VSM Vertigo had that as an frequenz dependet Saturation stage, not like a regular eq.
Anyone use it on vocals? Thoughts?
No gain compensation ? :/
There's an output slider, that's your gain compensation
@@mixbustv i meant automatic gain compensation. Sounds great but having to tweak that output gain every ten seconds is a bit counter intuitive..
