They are tough as nails too. I’m in the army and went through training at the jungle warfare training course in Okinawa with one on my wrist. Got super muddy, numerous impacts, submerged etc and still going strong. This model also has a second time zone function that Rob didn’t talk about.
Hahaha I wore some Timex Expedition or some random watch in Okinawa Jungle Warfare training, it survived! That training was misery too damn hot and humid, I think I still have heat rash and that was back in 2002
Yeah Iron man all day, had them for 20 years, work on the ships too. Timex makes the toughest watches . Function over form for me. G-shock for the pretty boys maybe. My current Iron man has so many impact dents and scratches but it still tells great time in big numbers at 3am in the pouring rain. That's all I need, don't want to have to look twice.
Man this watch brings back memories. My father did Triathlons for over 20 years. He always had the Timex Triathlon on his wrist. He was wearing these when they first came out, and only recently started wearing G-Shocks.
growing up, my dad was a runner and he used a much older timex ironman every time he went out. i thought it was the coolest thing. always get a nostalgic feeling seeing them.
This was my first watch in the early 90s. I used to get one in orange and black, every year, as my highschool watch. Every year,.cuz I'd either destroy it,.or lose it throughout the year. Nostalgia vibes...
I have one of those, the orange variant. I've been wearing it regularly for 7 years now, superb and durable time piece for the price. It's so comfy that I have it on pretty much all day, and when I don't, I really miss it.
If you hold down the indigo button for 3 seconds, it goes into night mode. In that mode, you can press any button to activate indiglo for a three second period.
As a retired UK Police Officer I was really impressed that you were going to donate this watch and others to your local Law Enforcers. Thanks Rob, you made this fan a happy guy. Take care.
Jordon Cloutier I dont wear anything. I find the petty bickering over what watch you wear is dumb. reminds me of a school yard boy making fun of a kid who doesnt have nice shoes.
@@duybear4023 I think he means other people bicker about the kind of watch you wear. Now most people either don't wear a watch or wear a smartwatch and digital watches have become more acceptable and even snobs have stopped turning their noses up at digitals...
I’ve had two of these for my running/triathlon workouts and races. They are great for the money. They are disposable as you say and mine make it for about 5 years until a swim kills them. The buttons and display are great for old eyes for sure!
Based on your review here, I picked up a Timex Ironman Triathlon. Previous to that I had regarded Ironman watches to be in the "fashion watch" category. WRONG Not a fashion watch at all. This is a well designed, well thought out, super durable and very useful watch. The on wrist comfort is superb. The watch disappears on my wrist and stays in place perfectly (no outboard rotation around my diminutive 5.875 inch wrist). The tang molded into the tongue of the band fits securely into a notch on the keeper; that is pure genius. The tongue never comes out of the keeper no matter how rough my physical activity. Being accustomed to my G-Shocks, the dial character size and font seemed a little odd at first but I got used to that right away. The legibility and readability are so good with the Ironman that I now feel like I have to squint and concentrate for a moment in order to read the time when wearing a G-Shock...
I just got one today in slightly different color. I agree that it is super comfortable! Brings me back to when I was a kid. I had an Ironman for years.
When you push the indiglo button it will turn on the indiglo for a second or two. When you push and hold it for 3 seconds it beeps and it shows the moon picture which means you have put it in night mode. I love this feature. It turns on the indiglo for 3 full seconds with the press of ANY button in that mode. So if you're running after dark and pushing the lap button, it will turn on the indiglo with every button push so you can see your times. Push and hold indiglo for 3 seconds again and it reverts back to day mode so your battery will last longer.
Timex is a storied brand than gets very little respect. They have always been tough watches. Remember, "takes a licking and keeps on ticking"? Casio also doesn't get the respect that it should. Both brands build amazing watches and pack them with value for the money. Thanks for reviewing the common man's watch.
Great review, I have two of the Timex Shock. T5K195 and T5K198, same watch that you reviewed. Just not the same color configuration ( no yellow button). Great watches. $ 42 now.
A current version of this watch is sold under the Timex Endure (shock) model, pretty much looks exactly the same with a bit of different color variations for between $43-50 on Amazon. Also sold at Wal*Mart and other stores. There’s also a model with a Velcro band version. I used the throwback version of this model during my Marine Corps career…
I had the 1991 version of this watch 1991 - 1995 while on jump status...talk about superstitions...I would land pop a riser then hit the sweet blue indiglo right there on the DZ. Rob you just leveled up
I sold my G shock square and bought an Ironman as the display on the Casio was too small to see when running. This Ironman range is massively underrated in my opinion
The squares have a tiny display and small awkward fingernail buttons. I sold mine as well and got the G-2900. It has much bigger numerals and a big illumination button on front of the case. It also has a databank feature. But there’s no doubt that the Timex is easier to read.
My sister bought me that same watch for Christmas so I can wear to work back in 2005.......it only lasted for 6 months. I threw it out of my truck window after it kept resetting the time from my wrist hitting the buttons, and the velcro strap was complete trash. But the indiglo light was top of the line.
Rob, that would be an amazing tribute to law enforcement, especially this time when there's a huge negative tone towards police! I worked patrol for 9 years and rocked a DW-5600E the entire time. Low profile, great light, didn't need to worry about destroying it... And if I did who cares. If you do donate the watches can you make a video about which ones you donated?
If you hold in the glow button down long enough it sets it in night mode you can activate it or deactivate it by holding the button down when it's in night mode work on any button to turn on the light
I have one that is a lot older than this one and I misplaced it probably 6 or 7 years ago, but I found it the other day and the day and time is still correct. The indiglo works but I have to look at it from an angle, I can't see the numbers if looking at it straight on with the indiglo. It's a great watch.
I'm a huge Casio fan but have to admit the buttons, interface, and overall quality on Timex Digitals at this price range exceeds Casio. Go G-Shock if you're going to spend more, but in this ~$25 to $50 range Timex has a ton of quality options.
The moon symbol means that "Night mode" is on so, with every button press, the EL turns on. It also turns itself off after some hours. I wish my Casio watches had this.
Hey Rob, Timex makes these in many different colors. The feature set is great for the price. I have a few different models produced over the span of the last 20 years. Thanks for some love for the most underrated quartz digital.
I brought one of this exact model less than. year ago at Walmart when they were closing down their Jewelry departments It's an ultra durable watch which I wear 24/7 My other watches (some G shocks) are getting jealous!
Thanks for the review. I had one of the original Ironman's back in the day as a kid. I have recently started down the path of GShocks and other cheap Casio digitals. This looks well made, picking it up out of pure nostalgia.
Great video Rob, thank you. I went to get one a while ago but whitout that little bit of yellow, the watch looks so damn boring. I really like it because of the huge digits, which makes it much easier to read. And the funny thing is I almost got one some years ago, but I didn't know it was a limited edition so I got a DW-5600 lol. I didn't know these had those special timers!!! And I do a lot of HIIT so I thought of getting an AE-1300 but this one looks much tougher. If you ever want to get rid of it, hit me up. In fact, if you want to do the donation thing I'll exchange you a brand new DW-5600 for that Timex. Cheers
As a Canadian military guy I see a lot more Timex on wrists than G-Shocks when I wander around work. We are required to have a watch where I work, phones aren't allowed.
My son is in the US Navy and phones and many watches are not allowed in the building where he works. They just recently started allowing Multiband 6 since they are "receive only". But no smartwatches are allowed.
Love, love, love these throwback Ironmans. For those paying attention, these particular models are no longer listed/available on the Timex website. I'm hoping they're planning a reissue. With the recent obsession with retro digital watches Timex really needs to do a reinterpretation of the original Ironman Triathlons from the early 90's.
I have a Timex Marathon classic and a GLX5600. I use the Timex when running for visibility and the 5600, among other G's for fun days. I cant wear them often due to getting heat rash under them. Kind of a bummer too because I enjoy them.
Excellent watches, easy to read, loud alarms, intuitive UI. My one beef with them is that they seem to always run slow, within spec, but slow. It could just be the luck of the draw, but I'm running about 5 out of 6 on the slow side of the ledger. Unlike Casio G-Shocks, which are also within spec, but almost always (90%+ or better) in positive territory. So I deal with the issue by setting them 20 seconds ahead, whenever I think about it. Amazingly, I like them enough that that makes the issue almost a non-issue, for me. Great watches!
My 3 watch rotation is a Citizen Montbell (per your recommendation...tho I prefer a vintage leather strap for adjustability and looks), Rolex Yachtmaster Rhodium, and a Timex Transit. I enjoy all of them equally, meaning the Timex is amazing bang per buck.
I've been wearing one for security duties, the gym and the range for a number of years. No status but works well and is easier to read than the G-shock. Had one and gave it away. The Timex was easier to read and set.
Iron Man watches are great! They are tough, looks better than G-Shock, easier to read / not as cluttered & easier to use (more intuitive than G-Shocks). I’m on my second one. It’s black & blue with a black w/ blue trim velcro strap. It’s a better made watch than g-shock.
You just put the watch into "nightmode". That means every time you push a button the indigo goes on for a couple of seconds. You should read up on the manuel for that watch, it's got some super useful features inc duel time.
I have two Ironmans and numerous Gshocks. I prefer the Gshocks when working outdoors. I use the smaller Ironman triathlon for swimming (T5k693) and the larger Ironman when I actually am timing something. (Tw5m 14500). The Timex buttons are much more intuitive and easy to use than the G shocks. Plus you can keep track of many, many lap times. Casio needs to update their system.
Casio's dedicated runner's watches are very similar in functionality to the Ironman, but not as tough. I picked up a WS1000H-1AV at Target for $9 on clearance. Easy to read display, intuitive interface, big front buttons, 60 lap memory and "locking" keeper.
For me the timex is more comfortable than the casio g shock. I think is more ergonomic and it fits great. That version of that timex is lit. Congrats. Now are they really expensive and weird to find. Is better than this timex shock, and what you did if you press and hold the indoglo button for a few seconds it will appear that moon smiling it means that if you press any button it will glow the lcd. But only for a couple hours. Then the moon face will disappear and if you press any other button with not glow.
The timex lumes are the best lume across the board - in any affordable brand! ☝️loving my expedition so much! It’s the only watch i wear EVERY night among my many watches 🤗
Hi Rob.....thanks for another great review.....the 4 bolts at each corner of the watch face are completely false.....its just a plastic trim for decoration......a great watch at a good price.
Had been debating with myself between a more expensive G-Shock or this Timex. I have other Timex and love their display and functionality, they are very practical. I couldn't justify the price of the Tough Solar G-Shock squares or g6900 which are several hundred dollars now just to have perpetual battery. Instead I decided I'll carry an extra CR2016 battery and small screw diver with me and only pay $50 for this watch. IMO the displays on Timex Ironman can't be beat.
The only reason I like the ironman is due to its legibility and backlight. G-shocks on the other hand use up a lot of real estate with useless gunk on the top and ends up with a small display with small numbers with a weak corner led light especially on the lower end models. Now, I am not dissing any Casio owners. If you like the g-shock, great! But this is just my 2 cents.
Most Departments will only reimburse you 30.00 bucks for a watch damaged during an incident . Cool that you are donating them to your locals. God bless
Timex ironman better than a g shock in just about every way. Wears better, more legible, better back lights, louder alarms, easier to use, better construction and look less tacky. Oh and cheaper!! No brainer.
This is a good watch for those cops who love brutality. You don't have to worry about the watch when you're smashing those batons left and right. Right ?!
Hey Rob. Since you are being generous to donate your squares donate 1 to me. 20 dollars your side seems cheap but in South Africa it sells for around 2 thousand Rands. That is like a weeks wages.
When 🤔 you have G shock this Iron-man just makes 😳 me say no 🙊 thanks As far as I'm concerned the Iron Man an is behind the G-Shock G-Shock it's just much better

Please what's the model
It's not a collab!
Nice, a Timex vid! I want the Ironman Original 30.. That matches closest to the one I had when I was a kid in the 90s (which I still have and works!)

G-shocks on the other hand use up a lot of real estate with useless gunk on the top and ends up with a small display with small numbers with a weak corner led light especially on the lower end models. Now, I am not dissing any Casio owners. If you like the g-shock, great! But this is just my 2 cents.
What is the model?
I wore one of these pool swimming laps for a few weeks and it leaked, had to trash it.
Very good watch.
Awesome idea! Back the Blue! 🇺🇲👍🇺🇲
Cual es el modelo del reloj
Lug width is 18mm, cool watch
Most Departments will only reimburse you 30.00 bucks for a watch damaged during an incident . Cool that you are donating them to your locals. God bless
The problem with Ironman watches are the watch bands don't last long. They get brittle and break at around 6 months of daily use.
Where you buy in this colour?
This colour is avaliable for us now!

Armys poorman version of the gshock...great watch
And…you can actually hear the alarm when it goes off…..(looking at you Casio)
Timex ironman better than a g shock in just about every way. Wears better, more legible, better back lights, louder alarms, easier to use, better construction and look less tacky. Oh and cheaper!! No brainer.
This watch is not available in India.
This is a good watch for those cops who love brutality. You don't have to worry about the watch when you're smashing those batons left and right. Right ?!
What the hell are you talking about? You know police deal with scum bags that want to do everyone harm right?
Donating 👍👍
A popular watch and while maybe not this model Bill Clinton used to wear one while in office.
why are you torturing me with a watch i can not find?! I want this version but it is nowhere...
It's not available anywhere I've looked online.
Thought it was Jocko's watch but no.
@Pickled Egg Jocko's watch is a Timex Ironman 100 which is discontinued.
I bought one with a dead battery for 3 bucks

If you have wrist claustrophobia, you probably shouldn’t wear watches

Hey Rob. Since you are being generous to donate your squares donate 1 to me. 20 dollars your side seems cheap but in South Africa it sells for around 2 thousand Rands. That is like a weeks wages.
meh.... they shouldn’t have changed the original.
I would wait awhile , not really a stellar time at the moment . 😂 Keep your Lawyer on speed dial....lol
When 🤔 you have G shock this Iron-man just makes 😳 me say no 🙊 thanks
As far as I'm concerned the Iron Man an is behind the G-Shock
G-Shock it's just much better
