Love the cinematography and overall quality of these vids.
There's no element of showing off or anything like that, just a real, down to earth and AMAZING video.
Thank you for taking the time to film these!

There's this crazy stuff called Bear Spray (basically pepper spray that works like tear gas on bears) that Careena carries -you may have heard of it?
Also, most bears will have been hibernating for the last few weeks in Canada, but you can't bet your life on assuming that...

She makes feather sticks like me. No ego. No trying to prove a point. Just putting in efficient work and popping out a fire quick-like. Well done. I LOVE seeing a proper length axe being used to instead of watching all these studs struggle to split wood with a hatchet just because they can't carry 4-6 more ounces of handle length for the same size axe head. GREAT JOB.

I’m seriously impressed how fast she starts a fire with her fire starting rod. I’ve been practicing for a year and am nowhere near her ease and efficiency at creating a fire. And her saw is amazingly powerful/fast. Wow!

    • @YankeeWoodcraft
      @YankeeWoodcraft Год назад

@@pduidesign A lot of it is going to have to do with the quality of the ferro rod and your tinder.
I like the $5 generic Chinese rods on eBay that are at least 1/2" thick and 6" long. I also use a very sharp 90 degree spine on my knife and/or my favorite, the back of any saw blade on a Leatherman multitool which works the best.
If your tinder bundle is of a good quality, it shouldn't take anymore than 3 strikes or so.
Here's one that I did that shows more the prep of a tinder bundle.

There is so much more going on behind the scenes it is not as simple as you all think it is you know she's out there making it look easy because she's very skilled at what she does. And you all need to realize that none of this will do you any good to watch if you're not out there living it or practicing it on a regular basis 3, 4, 5 times a week cuz if you really need it it'll be a full-time 24/7 deal and without the 24/7 practice of all skills you will not be rocking it lol.
I was homeless for many years and as a example all these skills will or can help somebody who is homeless that's true,.
And also if you having to live like this out or danger and you have a family and you all are not highly skilled one unskilled person will be that small hole tn the boat that over time will get bigger and before you know it your completely underwater.
Im not being critical I'm being realistic!!!
Don't let your ego be another problem your group has to battle through (failures)
      Have a great weekend everyone

@@clayguinard3651 I've got hundreds of fires under my belt. In fact, I spent one year going out into the woods making 1 or 2 fires a day everyday under all kinds of 4 season conditions. I'll be alright. :)

I saw fatwood for sale at the local Lowes the other day. It made me realize how much money could be made harvesting it from the national forests (not sure how legal that is). When I'm deer hunting (and camping), there are stumps and, at times, entire downed trees, that are super rich with sap. Usually, I'll kick over and pull up a rich pine stump to cut/split for kindling. One stump will last us a couple of winters at home. Additionally, you begin to notice the pine knots lying around the forest floor. My grandfather (a century ago) used to take a wagon up on the mountain here and pick those up to use (or sell) as kindling. Also, here in the south, I never heard the word "fatwood". We always just called it "rich pine".

"Joe they're Raccoons, their going to kill us for sure!" 😳 After further inquiry we found we could appease them with Little Debbie Star Crunches. Ya feed Raccoons ya don't die its just that simple." 🥳🤗🙄
