The other irrigation videos I watched were super technical and didn't cover the very basics - thank you for your straightforward explanation and greetings from Adelaide! Definately earned a subscriber in me 😊
Hi Christie, i am going to Bunnings today to buy the materials and install the irrigation system. I have not done anything like this before so hoping it will be good. Will let you know how it turns out. Question: is this system recommended for straight garden beds?
Discovered your channel after my search for an DIY irrigation system that I can install on my garden since I have lots of dead plants every summer. 🤦🏻♀️
I'm using a flexi tube for the main pipe as I find them easier to work with, however the connection points to the dripper lines seem to be very hit and miss. I'm using the same hole puncher, but I'm getting notable spray leaks at every connection point.
This was amazing! Thank you ladies!!!! I have bought everything and started to install. Woman are so much better at explaining things in detail than men… thanks again for this it is really really good!!! 🦋🌸💕⭐️👏
Lovely video, what kind of mulch would you suggest using in garden beds and the container herbs please? I realize that I need to take out weeds almost every 2 days from my garden bed
This might be an obvious question, but since you have the timer there controlling when the sprinklers get water, do you just leave the hose spigot it on all the time? Maybe just turning it off for the winter when it gets below freezing? Also, since the timer is before your splitter, do you have to wait till the timer is on before you get water for the hand hose? Or do you just kind of close the valve on one side and manually turn the timer on to allow water to get through?
From Jamie: Yes, the spigot is on all the time, so it's important to get a good seal with no leaks. The timer has a manual on option, so when I want to use the hand hose, I swap the valves over and turn the water on at the timer. The only tricky bit is remembering to turn it back to timer settings!
Thanks for the video I will attempt this to my garden as I'm time poor . Question though i have a foot path that separates the garden , how do I put the plastic pipes to the other side? I'm assuming I just place it across the foot path where it doesn't cause a trip hazard ? Another question how often do you water , is it daily, how long for and again assuming depends on the seasons ? Thanks
Depends on the season, I’d say daily in the summer, maybe once every three days in the winter? Very much depends where you are though and how much rain you’re getting! Re the paths, are they concrete or could you dig them under?
I’m sure you can do something similar with your grass, the only thing is the tubes would be above the grass so you’d have to come up with a way that they were tripping hazard!
I've got a small balcony about 7m long. There's no balcony tap so I have a 100L tank which has quite low pressure. Would 13mm pipe off the tank and then 4mm tube as drippers be ok ? or would it be better to use solely 4mm tube with 4mm T's for the drippers ? *Update: I ended up running 13mm poly off the tank for about 6m then used the 4mm flexi tube with drippers to run off the 13mm. It works pretty well. Just using 4mm alone I don't think would've worked as each time you put a joiner in it it reduces / restricts the flow.
@@GG-tk8cqnot the person you asked but I wonder if measuring the throughput would be useful. I saw on another video where the person put a 10L bucket under their tap and turned it on full whack. Then they timed how long it took to fill up. From there they could deduce litres per hour and divide that amongst the sprayers. I wonder if you could do the same for your balcony tank. I'll find the video and drop a link.

What about the residual water left in the tubing between watering times? Does the hot water (in the summer) damage the plants at all? I have a very long hose but small garden...im afraid I'd burn the plants
I think if you put the holes in the sides of the hose (as opposed to the top in this video) then the residual water would leak out because of gravity and there wouldn't be any hot water. Additionally if you're mulching (and you totally should in summer!) then the mulch will absorb the small amount of residual. I'm not an expert tho!

During winter do all of these devices freeze? Looks like their not buried below the frost line. Or do you have to bring everything inside when it gets cold?
@@Wilderness384 Do you have a compressor or access to one? There is an attachment (blow out plug) you can get to hook up to your hose to blow the water out with the compressor before the cold weather hits and works very well.
Thank you so much, today I set up my irrigation system thanks to you two ladies. The instructions are clear which makes it easy to follow🙂
So glad you found it helpful!
I had a feeling this would be quite straightforward! It's just a matter of knowing all the component parts. Very useful video, thanks!

Thank you ladies , after watching this I am far more confident to do give this a go . Great video , I really enjoy your channel.
Best of luck setting up your new watering system! Glad you found it helpful ☺️
Perfect timing I wanted to get this done in my garden yippe!!
Same! Which was why I was so keen for Jamie to teach me too ☺️

That must be frustrating!
@ChristieCooper Very. I replaced the flexi pipe with the standard polyipe. No leaks or sprays now. All good.
Amazing and very very helpful video for beginners

Hi, just wondering will the tap timer be okay when its a rainy day as it's battery operated?
Yep, they’re designed for use outside 😊

Can use the thin hose from the faucet to the sprinklers instead of the thicker hose?
I don’t think it would work as you wouldn’t be able to get enough water through!
How to access discription I don’t know😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 desperate need of help

Do you leave the tap on all the time? How does the timer stop the water from running?
You leave the tap turned on, but timer prevents the water from running except for the designated time periods.
During winter do all of these devices freeze? Looks like their not buried below the frost line. Or do you have to bring everything inside when it gets cold?
Living in Melbourne they don't tend to freeze because it doesn't get that cold! Where are you based?

@@ralphpetry1745 I don't have one, that's a wonderful tip. Thank you!
How are you going to use the hose after the timer ?
After the timer the hose turns off. But you can still use the other side manually whenever you want to.
great explanantion
Glad you think so!
