The distilleries are on the back label of both bottles:
    Old, black plasic cap bottle: DSP-KY-354 Early Times, Louisville & DSP-KY 414 Brown-Forman, Shively/Lousiville
New, crimped aluminum cap: DSP-KY-354 & DSP-KY-12 Barton (Tom Moore) Bardstown.

If you read the back of the bottles, it states the DSP it was distilled at and bottled at. It is clearly the same distillate... but the bottled in DSP is Barton and yes, something changed. But it’s not the juice itself. We did a video and think it is a time frame. They don’t dump right at 4 years, we think after years of making it… BF figured out the date to dump and Barton hasn’t figured that out yet. They likely dumped some stock into plastic containers and shipped it to them and it was bottled at the Barton plant.
    Cheers y’all

Unless Sazerac is violating the federal labeling laws, this is not 1792 (or any other Barton stock) because the label says it is from distillery 354, which is Early Times. So this still B-F stock purchased in the ET acquisition deal, but bottled by Sazerac. I completely agree that the Sazerac bottled stuff is vastly inferior; it is hot, harsh and just not very good. Obviously, Sazerac's barrel selection and blending is pretty poor in comparison to B-F. I will be interested to see how the Barton distillate version tastes, but we'll have to wait a couple of years for that. I'm not optimistic.

I know I'm late as all hell, but the newest bottles taste so much better than the first run of metal tops. I grabbed a fresh bottle a couple of weeks ago to give it one more chance, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much the blend had improved. Its probably 90% of the way back to what it was, but she's still a little sharp
Only downside is that the Brown-Forman stuff runs out (supposedly) this year so who knows how strong the first run of the new Saz blend will be. Missed out on bunkering the black tops, so I think I'm gonna snag a case or two, just in case it comes out subpar
I'd say give it another shot, or sneak a new bottle into a blind somewhere to see how you feel about it now

If Saz bought the Early Times name and all the stock Brown-Forman had, and this is a BIB product, there should have been another 4 years worth of stock sent to Barton. Different blender and other people in the production process. They also know the flavor profile of the liquid they produce, so there’s probably motivation to blend it to match what they think their own stuff will taste like in two more years. They don’t care about consistency with what it has been, they just want to maintain their own consistency - and the product suffers for it.

I was hoping Sean was wrong and jumping to conclusions, but he is not! I compared the Brown Forman Early Times to the new Sazerac release and a recent 1792 BIB, and the previous Brown Forman Early Times BIB is obviously better. By a lot! Can't tell by the nose, but the palate is very telling. I should have stocked up!

Correct me if I'm wrong - perhaps I'm overlooking something. If this whiskey is aged 4 years - and the takeover happened 3 yrs ago - this should still be the same BF stock for another year.

NOOOOO!!! I thought I had more time to bunker more ET BiB. I live in AL and ET BiB is hard to come by but I thought to myself when they announced the buy out that I have 4 years to bunker as many bottles as possible before the old stock ran out. 😭

Sad to say, Sean is right. But... so is Dan (about appreciating it anyway). I've come to like the new ETBiB for what it is... cheap, BiB, and pretty good flavor. They definitely changed the blend, though. I mean, it's not even close.

  • @jaybee3204

Interesting! I had different feelings than you guys blind. I found both to be incredibly similar, but leaned to the saz version. I felt it was slightly richer in flavor. I got just a hint of dark cherry that I did not get on the old. I did feel the the finish on the old was just a tiny bit longer. The finish on the new seemed shorter and drier, but I liked the overall taste just a little better.
I am surprised it was so dramatic for you guys. It took a long while going back and forth to pick out differences. Great video guys! Always enjoy seeing different experiences!

$18.99 here for the new which is still very hard to find where I am. Didn't see this video before I bought it (haven't picked it up yet). I didn't get to try the old. At least I don't know what I'm missing. Some recent side by sides have said they can't tell the difference. Any chance they are still tweaking the bottling or would any changes like take longer to happen? Updated sub $20 whiskey war with current versions?
