I like all the production choices you've made so far! Great work!
Sooo great, loving it! The philosophy of HA is so nice.. I absolutely appreciate that there is a local alternative for everything, which is also developed further and getting better and better over the time!
Hello there. Got here from @JeffGeerling channel.
I love that its a solution you can run privately and double points for being able to run it on an open hardware like Raspberry Pi.
Great work of developing both - local and cloud solution.
This is great and I really appreciate the continued focus on sustainability
Amazing! I’ve already purchased two, even though I’m aware that the current performance might still be inferior to what’s achievable with Alexa or Google. However, my choice was driven by the desire to support and promote this project. I truly believe this is just the beginning. With the advent of the Jetson Orin Nano Super, I think it’s now more feasible than ever to enable fully local voice control in a smoother and more efficient way. Kudos for the work you’ve done so far! Keep developing this project, which I believe is essential for many. I’m confident it will make Home Assistant the ultimate smart home platform.
Thanks for the thorough introduction of the new assistant! Well done!
Very thoughtfully crafted... I just purchased one 🥳
It looks great! I would love to see a version of this with a small screen to display a clock. This would be great to put on my desk and on my nightstand. I'd rather not have a clock and a separate smart speaker.
Just received mine today in Germany. 1st batch was sold out during the live video.... now 2nd batch seems to be in the delivery phase 🙂
You are the first Compact company / Organisation, where I buy the Argument "we don't include the usb c due to sustainability issues" - and not because you could Cut costs^^
Great Work :)
Couriouse what will come next ;)
Thanks for another great product! Just ordered mine from my local distributor. 😊
Once all the bugs and kinks are worked, next make a $129.99 pro one with an ethernet port and speakers on par to an echo dot or google home
Yes this! It would also be cool to be able to add your own external speakers. Audio quality would be as good as you want it to be :)
@@catkill2222 It has an 3.5 mm jack for a good speaker with a dac. 3.5mm audio output 3.5 mm (⅛”) stereo headphone jack
Digital to analog converter (DAC):
TI AIC3202
48 kHz sampling rate
Ok, I guess my prior comment really shows that I had not yet finished the video. They already have a 3.5mm audio jack! Omg. They've thought of everything!
@@catkill2222Right. And they even mentioned there is gobs of excellent audio gear out there already with a 3.5mm jack. No need to reinvent the wheel. Plug it in and go.
Great Work. A PoE Version would be great. ;-)
Wouldn't a PoE to USB adapter on Amazon thats like $15 bucks work? I use it for my Raspberry Pis that don't have a PoE hat
@@markgilbert5856 Of course it would be an option, but I prefer a "native" solution with only adding a network cable, which would also leads (at the end) to less (electronic) waste. Maybe Nabu Casa or someone else, basing on the open source of all of this (big thanx also for this), sometimes comes around the corner with such a Version ;-)
@@stephanschneider2718
Oh i getcha! i'd like native too, just thought the comment my disuade adopters of the preview device, but lol it doesn't matter sold out/back order already, soon to clear though from what I read
Last night I placed an order for 4. I'm going to connect them to my Denon smart speakers and see how I can get on day to day with HA in place of Alexa. Also excited to try the integration with my Ollama server.
Ordered at Swiss domotique ! Can't wait. Amazing Job Nabu Casa :) And yeah AI can be fun..
It was already sold out LOL. I am on back order, can't wait!
Sold out in 21 minutes on the US sites even after they said there would be plenty in this video.
Being able to select a different audio device would be very very nice!
Neat. I would have been happy with a drop in replacement PCB for my 3rd gen Echo Dot.
Thanks!!!!
Madlena, that was one of the best demos I've seen from the HA team! 👏
Thank you 🥹 I'm glad you enjoyed our stream
I need one similar to this for every room in the house, but in a smaller size, without buttons and to be embedded in the plaster ceiling.
They already have a little cube speaker looks to be about the width of a US quarter.
Nice :) Is there any plans for a LAN connected edition for those of us prefering cable connected devices?
If I can get a snapcast client running on this I'll be getting a dozen more (already ordered two)
Seems it is out of stock :( Wow the community loves this device! Well done team!
This is great, but it appears to be out of stock from us order sites.
As someone with a HA Green, having a way to send TTS and STT data to another local machine to process would be stellar. I dont currently have the knowledge (or funds for that matter) to DIY a machine to run HA, thats powerful enough to process STT with decent accuracy. If this is already possible (without HA cloud), please let me know.
This could be interesting for SEPIA as well 🙂. Is that the same XMOS chip that was used for the MyCroft open hardware board? I'm assuming the echo-cancellation and beam-forming is still XMOS proprietary code or did they actually open-source it? Because that was always the biggest issue with other microphone arrays.
About creating new wake words, you could use AI. Give wake word as text to AI and ask it to generate 1000 voice results with different accents.
"there is actually enough stock" lolololol
Please tell me that we'll be able to choose another device to reply by voice/audio. I'd like to make use of a multi-zone audio system with in-ceiling speakers. It would be great to pepper these devices around as listening devices while not relying on puny speakers for response or music playback. I love the additional ability of setting the mute through an event. You guys are fucking GODS .
May I also note that I was honored by the fact that JLo fashioned his AI based on me. I may be a drunken pirate, but I still manage a few automations from time to time.
Any chance this device can be modified to provide person tracking via BLE? It would be nice to have this sort of functionality in each room where these devices could be placed.
Mine is on the way from China... hopefully arriving mid-January.
Great work guys, does this device ship to NZ?
Is it about to use PoE over USB and Ethernet?
I'd like to see a drop-in board replacement for Google Home Mini and Nest Mini speakers. This way, I can just pop in a new board, load firmware but reuse the already-there USB/DC Jack connections on these two models, as well as their microphone and speaker. Did you think about that? I found a project online that offers something similar, but it would be nice to have something more official that integrates better with this project, since it's all open source maybe a smart someone could figure out a way.
Why not like every other "voice command apps" and train (your) hardware to (your) voice!?
This seems really cool, I'm really curious on the range of this thing. I'm only halfway through the video so maybe it comes up but is this just something I put on my desktop or the wall I'm facing? Or can I set this on the opposite side of my living room and expect it to work like the echo dot?
Love this. Post preview there should be a lower cost, less featured version like a Chromecast audio. Have one main one and satellites around.
Can I direct the voice responses to my Sonos AMP which is connected to my ceiling speakers in that particular room? So, if device in Kitchen hears the wake word, then voice responses go to Kitchen Sonos speakers for example.
Will be able to use existing already integrated to HA audio device?
at 1h12m I'd love to know what the settings are to set the WLED light mode, as I can never get that to work on mine units.
I used "Loading" effect with speed set to 255, and reverse on and off for listening and responding. And "Breathe" effect for processing.
I have some questions.
When we connect it to wifi; How do we reset it afterwards to connect it to a different wifi?
Can it work if its on an IOT VLAN? or does it need internet access? Can it work if it only has a path to the Home assistant server?
Does the grove connection also support the I2C or is it simply GPIOs?
I can't seem to order from the Seed website
It would be really cool if there was easy way to hang it up on a wall like with a nail or a screw 🪛
During the design process, we decided against to include a screw hole because it will increase the thickness of the device. Ultimately the device is light enough that we figured you will be able to stick it on the wall with tape such as the 3M Command tape. With that said, we will keep watching user feedback and see if we need to make any changes in future. 😊👍🏼
@@mdmk I've an idea: would it work when using screws with some rubber around the head? Screw in the wall, and the rubberized head goes into the existing holes of the device (staying in place by friction because of the rubber). Sounds to me like an easy diy solution to hang it on the wall.
@@pimw9805that's clever! 😁
@@mdmk Madelena, perhaps you could forward this idea to the product design team? If this work out in practice, this might be the cheapest way to add a wall mount (4 rubberized screws + a paper template to drill the holes)
Nice product, but I am still struggling using luxemburgish language. How could I help with translations etc?
I have a Mycroft 2 box. Is it possible to load this software there and get similar behaviour?
This device only need to be connected via USB to the computer with Home Assistant or is the USB cable just for power and then everything is wireless? Will it work with Home Assistant in docker on Synology NAS with bluetooth-proxy M5Stack Atom Lite?
Yes, is this one "is the USB cable just for power and then everything is wireless?"
ON the idea that old speakers work great that is correct, but I don't have any more since I replace them YEARS ago with a bunch of "ok" smart speakers.. I no longer have them and want to replace my google minis that have gotten DUMB due to recent google releases.
I sovled the problem of cutting through background noise a number of years ago. get in touch if you like perhaps we can work something out.
It supports Basque!!!! Alexa doesn't by the
way. Great work!!
Could this be used to turn any active speaker with an aux input into a smart speaker? Then connected via Music Assistant? Looks like it may be.
Yes. They talk about it in the video.
@@fretbuzzly Thanks, I have a habit of getting excited about something and asking a question before I've finished the video... 🤣 I know I'm not the only one.
Is it possible to use a BT Speaker instead of a wired one?
I guess you can plug-in a 3.5 bt transmitter into the assistant.
The next version with PoE RJ-45, a bigger speaker...
very slow trying to buy one , think everyone is slowing the servers down
I think that the volume is not satisfy me... is too low.
What can we do in order to maximize the volume please with out add a 3.5 jack speaker ?
Add a bigger speaker and DSP tuning, the thing needs to sound better than a Nest. I was quite unimpressed by the speaker quality if I'm being honest.
I'm 50/50 on this. Its pretty amazing what they have done with open accessible hardware and a small team. And keeping the price affordable.
Maybe a better speaker should be included, but then probably bigger and more expensive case as well, so its on par with what big tech alternatives are out there. But it would be more costly.
I can see a @DIYPerks style mod of this by getting a good quality speaker and building a wooden case with proper acoustics.
@@RoboticsDIY I agree that it's a good for a first try, I'm just letting them know what I expect from a product that should compete with its competitors on all fronts!
I'm very happy they didn't increase the price for the sake of putting a slightly better speaker that isn't actually good for music in there. $5 speakers from good will are always going to be better
I mean, it's not a music player, it's a speech device and optimized for best speech quality. You have 3.5mm stereo out to connect it to audio system of your choice.
@@a11aaa11a They could always make a little puck with only a 3.5 output like the Chromecast Audio but with a mic still.
Such a pity, so many of us support HA by paying for Nabu Casa every month here in Africa, and you can’t even make your devices available to us.
I see this is now also not available to us either?
I regret no mean to translate your video in french😢
Seeed website not shipping to Australia evidently (other HA products are fine but not this). Cant believe qe have voice control in a million languages but no shipping to an entire continent 🤦🏻
