      What you should have said is half these countries keep the population poor so that the corrupt governments and their close connections can be wealthy.
      Corruption in government is a major reason why countries do not escape poverty. North Korea is a shining example of this.

The exceptions are secular democracies like India that value high quality education and skills. Also defence against religious militancy and land border conflicts caused by despots is essential.

    GDP per Capita technically does not implie to how rich or poor a country is however it mostly defines living quality and average income for the countries current population (the mean of combined population income) so when it comes to describing a countries economy it is not primarily attributed to GDP per Capita

    • @truthonly2852
      @truthonly2852 Год назад +8

      GDP per capita still doesn't tell you the living standards of the average person. It just divides the GDP by the population size but that doesn't adjust for inequality. Example, Equatorial Guinea has one of the higher GDP's Per capita in Africa but it has one of the highest poverty rates in the world. I think the Human development index is better, it looks at a combination of life expectancy, gross national income per capita and the education level of the average citizen.

    • @lucaiervasi8515
      @lucaiervasi8515 Год назад +6

      @@truthonly2852 Population size is not a determinant of per capita GDP. because a country with more population has more workforce and in theory should produce more nominal GDP. but obviously there are countries that are more industrialized than others and a lower GDP per capita in a country with a larger workforce indicates that that particular country is not fully exploiting its potential. therefore, the measurement data in this case is correct. but since globalization began, per capita GDP has become a useless and marginal figure. this happens because there are countries which, with their very accommodating tax regime, attract all the rich on earth, who move their residences from their country of origin to these countries to pay less taxes. Luxembourg for example is a tax haven, all the wealthiest Europeans have their residence in Luxembourg. but how much wealth does this country generate? Well, its GDP is about 100 billion euros a year, countries like Italy for example, produce the entire annual GDP of Luxembourg in 15 days. basically luxembourg is not a country for an immigrant looking for a new and better life, but it is a country for rich people who want to pay less taxes. to give another example, Switzerland: with its banking secrecy, over the years it has attracted all the biggest bankers in the world, who by bringing their residence there, cause the per capita GDP to rise more than it actually would have been. Ireland and Holland also behave in the same way and attract wealth from outside. but if we put all these economies together, we will notice that even in this way, they are nowhere near able to compete with any of the g7 members for example. G7 members, all of whom are ranked lower than the countries named above. but which have an industrial power that places them among the top 10 economies on the planet and have a real economy and not artificially created by importing rich people from all over the globe, on the contrary, these countries are victims of this system, because most of these rich tax emigrants, who swell the GDP of the aforementioned countries, mostly come from the G7 countries, where they first got rich and then took refuge in the tax haven to maintain their assets, but continue to generate wealth in the countries of origin, to then move the capital safely to the new residence and creating damage to the countries of origin, which see their GDP reduce year after year.

    It would be good to see the median income per capita as well. If you did that then it would be obvious that the wealth in some countries is often held by a small percentage of people. The US is a great example of this. They have a lot of extremely poor people but the rich are extremely wealthy. The Scandanavian countries would be a good example of everyone having a high standard of living.

      @@jonathanlevinson1285 That is not what I meant. In the US there are a lot of billionaires that skew the median as you have a much larger number of quite poor people. The inequality is among the worst in the world and many in the US just do not care that many are poor. There is something very wrong with a country where the main reason for bankruptcy is the inability to pay for medical care. That is a massive difference to Sweden where people are happy and have a social conscience and healthcare is a basic human right
      And no I am not Swedish.

    GDP per capita by PPP is more accurate which accounts for purchasing power within a country. Corporate tax havens like Ireland, their GDP numbers are largely inflated as these are more “ledger” production as opposed to actual domestic product.

Australia has the highest minimum wage in the World; while, the United States can exploit immigrant workers. The Scandinavian countries are very well rounded and rank high in the Human Developing Index.

      First of all : This comparison is just averaging the GDP per capita. It‘s not very revealing about the wealth gaps and inequality in a country, which can be huge.
      The profits in selling clothes, which you buy here and which are made in Africa or other low wage place are made by your country fellows. Their gain is statistically distributed to each citizen., which doesn’t relate directly to your personal situation of course.
      Have you thought of how much time you have to work to buy one kilogram of rice from India in comparison to an Indian citizen or some tropical fruits from Africa, and how much they would have to pay if produced here and shipped to them?
