There used to be a Corn 🌽 Bank in Manhattan here. Over a hundred years ago. I kind of wish it still existed, an ATM card with a Corn cob on it seems hilarious to me. Lol. And checks. I would actually order checks if that were the case. Lol

on a family trip in 2015 i got to spend about six hours at the corn palace as there was a tornado warning in the area best day ever.

I went to the Corn Palace back in 2001 with family. I don't remember all those buildings around it. It just seemed like a building with corn on it in the middle of nowhere. Lol
It definitely had buildings around it then. There used to be a pretty cool aviation/hot air balloon museum next to it. Sadly it's closed now.

We made a trip to South Dakota to go see Mt Rushmore, the badlands and ended up at the corn palace and wall drug. My wife threatened to never walk by my side if I bought a nation's first homeland defense t shirt with a picture of Crazy Horse on it.

I’ve lived in South Dakota my whole life and never been to the corn palace 😂😂 driven by multiple times but never inside though lol.
I was born and raised in Mitchell and still live here. There's so much more history to the Corn Palace. It's not glue that holds those cobs up either, it's nailed or stapled. Years ago the outside murals were decorated with a lot more than just corn. The designs were intricate and quite interesting. Later on the murals have been just about the corn. There were some bad comments made about the town. It's got its faults just like any other town in South Dakota.
How do you nail or staple corn cobs ? I would think theyd just split or break
How do they keep the birds and critters off the corn? Some kind of clear coat or something?

@@deborahdeclusin9389 ya I remember going as a kid took my family this last summer and was blown away to see that for two different years the theme was nazi... I was taken back seeing the first year were the SS eagle stood over the seal then the next year they had a swastika on the corn palace.. o what a wonderful place .....hmmmm to be honest it is always nice to go to Mitchell for the restroom on the way to all the cool stuff the corn palace would be an amazing spot to see a show that is for sure..and slot of history some not so good but very cool stuff

Dude, Antlers in Sault Ste Marie MI, legendary. Stop by the Big springs on your way, up. Andy's bar in Seney. Tahquamenon Falls State Park has a brewery right there on site, lower falls you can walk up the river, upper falls are awesome. But not as much to hike. Coming from Wisconsin you could make a week vacation out of it. Add Grand Marais for another brewery too

Yeah, same here. Not a fan of Mitchell. Fun facts, when I was little we went to the corn palace, and across the street was a castle themed building. There they sold bibles and stuff like that, but inside another room they had a jungle play place. The guy who owned it was pretty old, and he had I think his grand daughters there with him. We went in the for some reason dark play place and the grand daughters were acting very odd and so was the old guy. We didn't stay for very long. 1/10.
Since I've been there though, I believe that place went out of business. Good riddance creepy play place of nightmares
My wife is from Sturgis and the bars there are peak Midwest bars. You got a mix of the bikers there too. Really hope you check a bar out over there!

If you think culture is defined by a river, then you have the brain of a Neanderthal. Midwest has become more of a cultural term for "fly over states" than a geographical one that fits your own asinine and arbitrary rules.
You should go to Hawg Dogs in Savanna, IL they’ve also got a haunted Speakeasy above the bar! I highly recommend them!
