My mom's side (and my mom) were farmers in South Dakota. My beloved grandmother was so sweet but tough as nails, everyone called her Honey. Love South Dakota ❤️
There used to be a Corn 🌽 Bank in Manhattan here. Over a hundred years ago. I kind of wish it still existed, an ATM card with a Corn cob on it seems hilarious to me. Lol. And checks. I would actually order checks if that were the case. Lol
You should come to bottineau ND and check out our bars and our 40’ tall turtle riding a snowmobile 🤣 we are surrounded by drinking towns, the patrone capitol, the Busch light capitol and mcgillicuddy city.
I don’t think they know how much they captured small town South Dakota bar with that old dude sitting there playing VL with a pack of smokes in his hoodie pocket.
I was born and raised in Mitchell and still live here. There's so much more history to the Corn Palace. It's not glue that holds those cobs up either, it's nailed or stapled. Years ago the outside murals were decorated with a lot more than just corn. The designs were intricate and quite interesting. Later on the murals have been just about the corn. There were some bad comments made about the town. It's got its faults just like any other town in South Dakota.
@@deborahdeclusin9389 ya I remember going as a kid took my family this last summer and was blown away to see that for two different years the theme was nazi... I was taken back seeing the first year were the SS eagle stood over the seal then the next year they had a swastika on the corn palace.. o what a wonderful place .....hmmmm to be honest it is always nice to go to Mitchell for the restroom on the way to all the cool stuff the corn palace would be an amazing spot to see a show that is for sure..and slot of history some not so good but very cool stuff
I went to the Corn Palace back in 2001 with family. I don't remember all those buildings around it. It just seemed like a building with corn on it in the middle of nowhere. Lol
We made a trip to South Dakota to go see Mt Rushmore, the badlands and ended up at the corn palace and wall drug. My wife threatened to never walk by my side if I bought a nation's first homeland defense t shirt with a picture of Crazy Horse on it.
As a South Dakotan born and raised, Mitchell is the last place you want to go to. Honestly surprised he didnt go enjoy the river and enjoy the Silver Dollar
Yeah, same here. Not a fan of Mitchell. Fun facts, when I was little we went to the corn palace, and across the street was a castle themed building. There they sold bibles and stuff like that, but inside another room they had a jungle play place. The guy who owned it was pretty old, and he had I think his grand daughters there with him. We went in the for some reason dark play place and the grand daughters were acting very odd and so was the old guy. We didn't stay for very long. 1/10. Since I've been there though, I believe that place went out of business. Good riddance creepy play place of nightmares
Corn Palace visit, cross that off bucket list. On your way back going through Minnesota stop at the Spam Hall of Fame in Austin, Mn. Then you can tell Charlie Berens you’ve really lived .
@@vtc2838 its all the midwest dude lol culturally there isnt a barrier because of a river. Tell someone from LA that West South Dakota and East South Dakota are different and they will laugh at you.
@@vtc2838 to reiterate my point, anyone from a major city would call Wyoming the Midwest. There is fundamentally not enough cultural difference to be a prick about it. If you think culture is defined by a river, then you have the brain of a Neanderthal. Dude, Antlers in Sault Ste Marie MI, legendary. Stop by the Big springs on your way, up. Andy's bar in Seney. Tahquamenon Falls State Park has a brewery right there on site, lower falls you can walk up the river, upper falls are awesome. But not as much to hike. Coming from Wisconsin you could make a week vacation out of it. Add Grand Marais for another brewery too
You should consider a tour to the mid-south like McKinney Tx and give us your thoughts. It’s about the complete opposite but started out like the Mid-West
Ah come on! We’re here for a tour of the bar, a conversation with the locals, watching you drink more than one sip of beer, and cheering your bar-cade gambling losses! We didn’t get that!
My old college town. We called the Corn Palace the world’s largest bird feeder! 😂. Love that Myles went to Mitchell!
When he says I’ll make an offer on the corn palace and the man next to him looses lt…. I dying 🤣🤣

You spoke about this on the podcast. So glad to see it in a video.

I swear to god if this guy starts singing it’s corn, I’m gonna be mad but,
we all know he’s going to be singing it’s beer is the most beautiful thing

How do you nail or staple corn cobs ? I would think theyd just split or break
How do they keep the birds and critters off the corn? Some kind of clear coat or something?
I was there in the 60s as a kid enroute from WI to OR.
Always will remember the Corn Palace.

It definitely had buildings around it then. There used to be a pretty cool aviation/hot air balloon museum next to it. Sadly it's closed now.

It was the corn hole palace right?
The Corn Palace was the most underwhelming stop on any road trip I can remember in my life. Wall Drug not far behind lol.
We went in for the air conditioning, still barely worth it.
Not sure what you expected
I was like seven years old so I was probably expecting anything more than a gym.
Don’t forget to check out that church up north. The Kongo club. Lots of praying going on there.
The OG. Cornnoisseur!
I love how shocked he is about the corn palace, and how he can’t hardly keep his sh*t together bc he thinks it’s funny
