Way back in 1980's, we export the meat of T. Crocea and Maxima to Japan for food consumption, but later on the government banned the exportation, because these 2 specie of clams are belongs to Giant Clams and is embedded in the Corals, so that when the fishermen get the meat, they can destroy the Corals which we protect for fish as their dwelling place, so we started to culture these 2 specie by sea ranching. I observe that variation of colors of T. Maxima and Crocea came from sunlight. Giant clams is rich in protein and it is considered aphrodisiac so that it is in demand in Japan market. I agree on farming and propagation of GIANT CLAM. Thank you for sharing the techniques of culturing clams.
Acro Al has done this successfully from home from Australia. He has breed some very nice specimens. A lot of cool maxima variants the world has never seen up until recently..
I first met the big black giant clam in the ocean and it was a bit scary (because I did not know anything about them before) but enormously fascinating
Hard clams vary a lot depending on region. Even these clams are sometimes aquacultured for food. But that sounds very interesting. Maybe you know what kind of hard clams you're keeping. Or where they're from? I'd love to try your idea for myself, and I'd love to hear more.
Great video!! Thanks! I'm thinking of getting a small Derasa clam pretty soon. What are the clam's natural predators? Any fish/inverts I should avoid if I wanna keep a clam?
I've been waiting for this video! Great job Than, your videos are very informative and entertaining. Would you recommend a Maxima Clam in a 38G mixed reef? Thanks.
i think youd be ok with a clam, i run the same set up with a different light, and my maxima ive had for almost a year and my derasa has been with me for a few months
Questions About Keeping Nems Clams & Ponies in a Nano I just bought a small blue Maxima Clam and have it in my 60 gallon display. This is my first clam. I know I should have started with a Derasa, but couldn’t resist this beautiful animal. So far it is doing well but I have Bristol worms and a FoxFace in there I'm concerned about. I presently cycling two small tanks I plan to be species specific bare bottom nanos only five gallon each so 100% weekly water changes are feasible. I have just a few pieces of well established Live Rock with some GSP and Kenya Trees on them. I plan to keep only clams and sea horses in one and Nems in the other. Would this be possible and how long would small tanks like these need to cycle if I maintain a five gallon water change on both tanks weekly. No fish, just clams and ponies, well maybe just one perc in the Nem Tank but none with the clams and horses. I will post pics later. Thanks
I've got a clam that I wasn't sure what kind it was but after watching I'm pretty sure its a maxima. The only thing that threw me off from me thinking it wasn't a maxima was because it's mantle was tan and not the common blue/purple. Maybe it could be a squamosa?
Hi, I have managed to get them to spawn twice now using 3 banks of AI's on the moon cycle. Not great though, almost wipes my tank every time. Good luck! Keep us updated
Wouldn't it be awesome if the pigments in our skin were made up of cells that could perform photosynthesis? It would solve quite a few problems around the would especially for people who live in hot sunny countries we're faming is a huge problem. People would rely more of fresh water than food. It should also cut the production of agriculture as we would need to eat less...
Got a living clam from the seafood store. He has been alive in my tank for 6 years now. great guy. about 1 foot.
awesome, what kind of clam you think it is?
Will like to get one myself. Lol where?
Wow
Just awesome. Thanks so much for your time and dedication on making your videos and sharing.
after watching I have a much better understanding of clams and there care thanks so much

Great video!! Thanks! I'm thinking of getting a small Derasa clam pretty soon. What are the clam's natural predators? Any fish/inverts I should avoid if I wanna keep a clam?

I wish you would tell more about how to feed them and show it.
so where would you place them in the tank? can they go on a lower rock, or do they have to be in the substrate?

Incredible channel...very impressed :) What kind of camera do you use?
Ahhh...its my dream to own a camera that good lol. Amazing channel...I look forward to watching your upcoming videos :)
How about their grade? How do they get grade 1st gold or ultra?
Hey dude. I'm sure you know by now but younger clams don't rely on filter feeding more than older ones. This is a myth.
what type of pests affect it?
Well I don’t keep aquariums but I’m definitely a clam enthusiast! 😂😉
Make sure the clam is healthy!

there are maximas with gold mantles, look at the inlet area, the maxima has many frills while the squamosa has few to none, i believe.
Can I put a clam in 32 gallon biocube
Also make for great eating!

Can i have one in a 10 gallon aquarium
Unfortunately, the tridacna derasa and gigas types are the most protected types in indonesia and cannot be bought and sold
Can I keep one in a 14 gal
Squash Man!! You can but the thing is gonna grow big and the tank would be too small.
There is an odd popping sound in the audio.
wcdeich4 I know he needs a pop filter
Came here after watching the giant clam video

Believe most are now aquacultured.
I would’ve enjoyed the video if you had a pop filter
the big one did not eat me
