  • This fishing video is an in depth journey into how I fish for flathead on the Fraser Coast in Queensland, Australia. I run through flathead characteristics, locations to fish, tactics and techniques, including retrieves and lures to use. I detail exactly where and how I fish for flathead, how I clean them and also cook them. All in the one video, enjoy.

    Love to see that you keep your rod tip down, so many younger anglers lift their rod tips up and this can only end in tears as the side sawing action of flathead will almost always wear your leader through, I can tell this is not your first rodeo and you give sound advice on old fuscus, bloody well done.

    Just came across your video today. I see it’s a few years old but mate best content ever come across. I love the defence force training coming into play for how you approach fishing. I have always believed in the 7 P’s around preparation but as my CPTSD has got worse it makes it harder to get in the preparation I need making my fishing results less rewarding. My energy and focus just slows me up to get everything done then when on the water I am kinda winging it. Bloody frustrating! Having said that it’s good just to be on the water some days.

    Awesome video and some really great explanations to help understand the fish, which is very valuable. Something we do when cleaning our fish. Similar to you, but once we have started skinning, we grab the flesh and pull it off the skin by hand. The bones 95% of the time all stay with the skin, leaving you with a nice, boneless fillet.

    Awesome video mate really informative, good to see a video in the Urangan pier area that is where I do a majority of my fishing as I don't have a boat or a kayak, I am relatively new to lure fishing been chopping and changing between hard bodies and soft plastics just to get the basic techniques down, I get the odd Flatty as I mainly target them just don't get them regularly enough. I have had more success on hard bodies so tend to use them more often but if I am not having much luck with them I change to soft plastics, if I am not having any luck I change back. Is that wrong to do that or is their something else I should be doing or trying first or maybe the area I am fishing is wrong or the tide is wrong. Cheers

    • @FishingBoatingExploring
      @FishingBoatingExploring  5 лет назад +1

      Changing it up is good mate, many tournament anglers carry a dozen or more rods rigged with different lures. They arrive at a spot and give 5 casts with each till they get the fish. So nothing wrong mate, the key is really persisting to get the bite.

    • @FishingBoatingExploring

      Luca Maynes I am a big fan of curl tail grubs and paddle tail soft plastics, depending on depth I would suggest a 3-4 inch. I always throw a natural colour and a bright colour, if one doesn't attract a bite the other usually does.

    • @FishingBoatingExploring
      @FishingBoatingExploring  3 года назад +1

      🤣😂 here we go, the great bait vs lure debate!! 🤣😂 I very very very rarely use bait nowadays mate. I prefer the challenge of convincing a fish to take a lure. But, I do not begrudge anyone for using bait, ie if it works for you, then use it. There is no right or wrong option.

      Do you know how to stop leader from rapping around main line (braid) when connected by swivel. Because it's braid it's a real pain to untangle from when twisted around leader and creates a fair mess. I only seem to notice it while drifting with baits and when winding in my bait?

    • @FishingBoatingExploring

    • @FishingBoatingExploring
      @FishingBoatingExploring  7 лет назад +1

      G'Day Mate - I do try to imitate bait movement as much as possible, so do try to have my lures move with the tidal movement. However there are planty of times where this is not possible so then I try to make them look like disorientated and fleeing bait. I am yet to fish Agnes Waters but have heard the Jacks are red hot there during summer.

    Hi there Luke, thank you for posting this video, it has given me some good tips for flathead fishing, I to live in Hervey Bay and try to wade the flats for some fish, so far not much luck,
    flathead has been my target fish using soft plastics, do you have any advise on any hard body lures to use? do you use these?

    • @FishingBoatingExploring
      @FishingBoatingExploring  7 лет назад

      Just Flicking g'day mate, thanks for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it. I don't use hardbodies that much but like in the video I found the banana boat 80 from Austackle works well. I tend to prefer hardbodies when fishing over structure, so something that suspends or floats. And then go the softplastics to hit the bottom when there are no rocks etc.
