I've never seen how powder coating was done. I never expected powder to turn into that beautiful color and shine. Pretty badass.
Fukkin sick bro!!! Do you know how many doors you've just opened having this setup??! Customization unlimited!!!!
Not going to lie, didn’t think they would turnout that well! They look awesome!! Great job! Thank you for sharing this video, be safe! Wow, they turned out good!
That first cup turned out so good. Loving that purple. Totally makes me want to powder coat my stuff. It blew my mind when I saw how good it turned out.
Aluminum foil to cover threads. The reason you pre bake , after washing or clean is to get rid of moister and oils
Was considering getting my winter rims stripped and powder coated for a while now cause they look horrible right now. After watching you powder coat at home I’m definitely going to take a shot at it. Thanks man!
Now that's dedication to the craft when you have what looks to be a fairly new build house, and you not only run a compressor line in to spray powder coat but move the existing oven and bring in another oven to cook it in, powder coating from start to finish in your kitchen. lol...
WOW that was awesome !!!! You should start a Merch line with illusion purple and lime green tumblers. You did a fantastic job and it's amazing how professional quality powder coating came from a basement apartment with DIY equipment.
Being a professional powder coater, I promise you it's not that easy to create a professional quality job. Nothing against this guy, but unless you miss a huge area, even the shittiest jobs look good on film.
i didn't know a home kit even existed. ideas are flowing now. Unlimited powder coating with the only restriction being the size of the oven!
Because of the way electrostatic charges work, you're going to have the least coverage on "internal corners". What this means functionally for YOU, is that the lip of your tumbler is gonna be hard to get to when the whole thing is sat flat on a pan like that.
I'd recommend you fabricobble a conductive stand that supports the tumbler from the inside, so that the lip isn't touching anything and is far from the conductive base plate. A stand shaped like an upside-down T if that makes sense, where the tumbler sits upside down on the vertical part. That should remove the difficulty you were having.
Been using Eastwood’s powered coating stuff for 10 years now. Love it! Have done many things with it! Your first time went great! Took me a few times to get stuff right. My set up is in my garage, works way better then inside the house.
Ya on those guns I pull off the blue plastic part on the end of the rod coming out the gun. I like that better.
If you keep doing tumblers get a silicone plug to go in the bottom helps keep a clean looking lip. You can get a rod and put it thru it and set the cup on it.
Stuff the cup with aluminum foil also to make great contact.
Illusion purple from powder by the pound?
Ya now you need to start cutting decals to use as stencils to make logos and designs.
It’s a pretty fun hobby to mess around with for sure. Also can turn it into some side income.
Great suggestions man. Most people just leave their stupid opinion of what somebody did wrong. These are actually great ideas and helpful. Kudos.
To help with your edges around the lip or other tight spaces, that's when you are best to drop your kV setting (I think from memory the Eastwood setup is explained 'backwards') and use your diverter tip. Looks good though!
So powder coating was out of my budget for my build but thanks to your video I totally believe i could do this myself. Keep up your videos man, this is amazing
WOW good to have access to the oven you do not use for cooking! Great result! I am happy with that!
Oh snap !
I'm buying an oven this weekend !
Thanks for another money saving DIY video !
Man seeing you do that and dont look too hard makes me want to go out and get one and do stuff like that cause if you can do it at home you save money
You should get a box fan, seal it to the cardboard box with the fan pulling out, with a home A/C filter between the box and the fan. This'll pull the excess powder through and contain it in the filter. You'll probably want to space the fan away from the filter about an inch or two, but sealed all the way around to the box.
Dude that turned out sick I wish I lived closer id have u do some stuff for me. Love the truck bro u inspired me to build mine but I won't make it this year. Will definitely be looking for u next year. Keep up the content man love it
Its not hard at all, the supplies is cheap, make sure you get high quality powder which is also really affordable. Then a cheap used oven. Can even use a small toaster oven if its just small stuff you want to experiment with. Watch Cameron Niemelas channel on his dirtbike builds be does tons of powder coat and Cerakote videos super informative.
Also you want to try and hang stuff when shooting and baking, having it sitting on a tray you'll get a build up of powder on the bottom edge and thick spots that can chip off. Powder coating is the easiest paint process to get good results when learning fresh.
Make sure you get a thermal heat gun because you start you timer once the part has reached 400 degrees
What if I just wait for the "beep, beep, beep" my oven makes when I set the preheat temp to 400 degrees. Works good when I'm baking cookies but I wait for the "beep, beep, beep" before I put them in so they don't prebake. I like my cookies chewy not crunchy.
@@paulweston8184 cookies tf?
@mister clean im baked
@@suhhdudee5153 Then you will want cookies.
@@Z4Zander snorting chocolate chips is also great
I love that you're doing this yourself. Looking incredible.
I have learned that hot coating can help alot on small systems...thanks for the info!!!👍👍
I love how everything he does is on his own and on a budget
i know at Lowe`s where you find drawer slides an handles at the bottom shelf they have galvanized steel Swivel plate as we no it as a Lazy susan you can put what ever you want for the top and the bottom of it then you will be able to turn the parts to powder coat and you can run a short wire off it then you can clamp your ground to that .
Awesome job! The other reason you prebake before powder coating is to remove moisture from the metal. Otherwise if the moisture comes out after coating the powder pops and you get little bubbles/voids where moisture escaped. Great results though!
Turned out awesome, can’t wait to see the rest of the parts complete!
Damn that looks so good. One thing you could try as well is a ground strap right to the object your powder coating might help the current flow through it.
Chris.
Need to get some silver powder to get more accents to match the coils on the truck. Love the powder videos! Catlnt wait to see what else you do with this powder setup!
No weatherman
You mean electrician lmao
I do the everything myself to my truck as well it’s the only way you learn
Love it !!!!
It looks amazing and that is definitely a color that Pops. Little advice put on a respirator so you dont inhale the fumes and dust in the air.
Love watching your channel truly turn own wrenches. Super slick
When two metals with a charge are in close contact. It produces a faraday effect repulsing the powder. That's why its hard to get it to cover where it touches the metal.
Anyone who's interested in trying some home powder coating Its not hard at all, the supplies are surprisingly affordable, make sure you get high quality powder (highly HIGHLY reccomend Prismatic Powders) which is also really affordable (this is one of THE most important steps it makes all the difference in end quality). Then a cheap used oven. Can even use a small toaster oven if its just small stuff you want to experiment with. Watch Cameron Niemelas channel on his dirtbike builds be does tons of powder coat and Cerakote videos super informative.
That looks AWESOME....keep up the good work. I have learned a lot from you watching these videos!
Maybe put the cups on a metal center stand inside the cup versus the pie tin. That way you can turn the center stand and you can get more full coverage on the bottom of the cup if it's raised above the surface. By the way, you now have me thinking about how I could use this on certain car parts on my 370Z...Darn it!!
I was like man ive seen that truck around here before, then I saw the plate! local man. and the powder turned out good for a first try man
Dammmmm!! Dude that looks sick !! Congrats bro I like these kind of videos you make bro, helps us/motivation to save money and do it your self !🔥🔥🔥👍🏼😎
This is awesome! Same color I have on my truck, I'm going to have to invest in getting this system.
Thats crazy how that works. Man I love that
Use a wire to hang the peice being powdered too. Then just unhook it and transfer to oven.
Very impressed. Great work man you do amazing work for majority diy, the truck is hands down breathtaking. 💪🏼🔥
Looks good... I am wanting to start doing some powder coating on some under hood stuff
The spray cans of aircraft paint stripper works incredibly. Have used it many many times.
That turned out awesome. Want to do my coils an radius arms an more lol. You could start up side jobs powder coating. Love the channel love the truck an car keep up the amazing content.
That's wicked bro. Awesome colour. Nice work man.
Should have used spray stripper in the can buddy! Works everytime!!!!! Can strip a whole bike frame in 30 minutes.
Get a sand blaster enclosed case that has a front window and gloves that are sealed and yeah a respirator is a must!
Bro I been watching these videos on power coating thinks to yours it was simple easy and awesome! Thinks brother
Wow they came out great nice job!! can't wait to see the diff covers
The result looks good, and at least you used a seperate oven, but in the kitchen?!!!! There will be powder coat everywhere, forever lol. run an outlet into the garage my guy. Be safe
You want to pre bake the metals to de-gas any chemicals, solvents etc anything like that, also should before the pre bake wash with acetone. And if or when you ever do a 2 stage powder, ex, chrome base with day Prismatic candy red over the chrome you want to shoot the red AS SOON as the part comes out of the oven from the chrome bake cycle, while it's still hot for the best results. This is all highly tested and true. Not just me but multiple people in the industry or hobby side.
Where or how did you get a purple seatbelt, that's cool.
This motivated me to setup my own “studio” for my calipers. Awesome video, also not often I see someone else from Ohio!
Wow... floored. Nice work Ryan!
I think the wire will help with your edges. It sitting right up against something verses building a wire jig to hold it off your pan an inch should help. You could also buy ball hitch covers for shows. Anyone says anything tell them you use your truck. It isn't a trailer queen. :-D
practice makes perfect just keep trying and if you can put some thing in the cup to hold it up off the pan you could get the top better
You should really shine up the exhaust to kind of match the coils and powder the exhaust tip purple. I think that would look sick. Thoughts everyone?
Awesome video it's crazy I'm trying to fix up a 96 Silverado your videos are helpful I'm from Columbus too big shout out to Ohio have you thought about having your own garage?
IMPRESSIVE!! Congrats Ryan I believe you have it down now
Nice content, one recommendation, you should really be wearing ear protection when using an impact gun, this is one of the most common reasons people get tinnitus or ringing in the ear. I work in the film industry and we use impact guns on scaffolding a lot and it's very common for people to get hearing damage from prolonged use. Also wear a respirator my dude, stay safe!
You got a Fair Dade effect (if I'm spelling it right) where the cup meets the pan. If you can adjust the settings not air or amount powder but your conductivity if you can. Good job though
Faraday cage effect. Electrons bounce off 2 sides and don't get into the corners. ;-)
@@chrisstarke4532 it can be done it just a pain in the ass lol but yes the fair Dade effect
man you killed it they look bad ass
How many pounds of powder did you buy ? Wanting to do some coil springs not sure how much I’d actually need. It’s cool watching you do this. Just the fact that you do all this yourself.
Bad ass color! What powder coating system are you using?
came for the powedercoat, stayed for the classic Jimmy O style "WHATSUPGUYS"
Another Great Video - you can get/amazon a plastic rotating cake-decorating platform for under $10 and it’ll support a lot of weight, while spinning freely, use a fitted foil tin tray on the platform for your grounding. (They sell it as a package).
Looking forward to the next video!
i just can't get over how pretty the Ram and Charger are 😍 i'm a huge Dodge/Ram girl 💚💜
fat bitches need trucks too.
Looks wicked, nice job! How are the fumes from the baking if any, in the house?
You can smell it wouldn’t recommend staying in the room the whole time
So coat the color on cook it, then coat it with top coat and cook it again and it should be the color ?
Great video, does it smell when it's baking? And where does a person buy a large bag of powder coating from?
What is the name and brand of that purple and where did you get it from
pwdrcoat looks good,.. question though; why does that oven used to bake metal look better than other(ancient looking)i'm guessing daily use for food.
I've been thinkin of doing similar diy pwdrcoat for my buggy build,& was gonna buy an old dated oven. So kinda had me a like wtf moment for a min lmao..But it's all good. Nice work.
Yup... I'm buying myself a little powder coating kit now. Thanks Ryan 😂
ITS SO FUN HAHA
Do you have a link to the kit you used
What's the name of the green/yellow paint on your truck? It's great!
I can’t believe you pulled out that junky stove perfect for powder coating and used the good stove. Haha. You’ll need a stove plug in the garage. What brand is the powder? It came out great
Joe Nason prismatic powder!!!
Dang Ryan those turned out amazing👌👌👌🤤🤤🤤
Hey Ryan I was thinking about the emission b.s. and when you have to put your exhaust back on you should leave the engine deleted
You really only have to preheat only certain materials ... Some materials cant take 400 degrees for that long.. so you preheat it to help the curing posses.. Like u can powder coat glass, and some rubbers if done right.. but its really depends on what ur doing
Dang this really your first time powder coating? Lol. nice job it came out awesome! The only thing I’d suggest to try differently is hang the parts like you mentioned off some wire, it just usually makes it a little easier to get full coverage. Other then that awesome, awesome job man I can’t wait to see the truck parts now there gonna look dope!👍🏼
Damn man they look great im into mustangs heavy and I use to do hydrodipping I think ill get me a powder coating gun now lol
where did you order the powder?
Need some power to the garage to run that oven. Then you can charge your friends. Nice work!!
That is badass!! Makes me want to donut myself now
😳😳😲😲 my face when it came out of the oven lol😅
MINE TOO!
You had to do some sanding or something along that line to get smooth edges on the cup. Must have been a bit of a pain getting it off the pan after curing. Try hanging things so you don't have to deal with edging. For cups make a jig so nothing is touching it on the rim. Just remember when you go to do heavy pieces of metal it is at the PMT (part metal temperature) not oven temp that you start your countdown of cure time. It may look good but the strength will be next to nothing.
How is the surface that is contacting the pan? Is that contact surface not coated? Coated? Leave a mark ?
Incredible! Outstanding job!
Damn that badass brother makes me wanna do some powder coating
Freaking awesome how you can do all of these things at home. You really inspire me to try things with my truck! Please keep the videos rolling!
Hell ya dude looks really good. Doing it your DIRTY WAY
Gawdd dogggg!! Amazing! I wonder if this will work on my rims!
You Beast ! Doing that shit in your kitchen but I hear ya . I once turned my bathroom into a spray booth . Whatever works 👍🏻
The bed would look cool in purple
Good job man, looks great! Keep doing what your doing!
Where did you get the kit? That looks cool
We have a powder coat shop in Utah. If sema wasn’t so soon you should’ve sent us your parts.
What's the name of your shop? and where are you located?
Put water proof grease on the hitch receiver and pins. When I rebuilt my s10 zr2 single cab every single bolt I took off was coated in water proof grease. It isn’t how much money you spend it’s how you build it.
Thanks for explaining the process 😊 really koo keep up the good work 🤙🤙
Turned out amazing. Sky’s the limit!
