Pad Krapow Goong • Thai Basil Shrimp Stir Fry • Nin is Cooking

- For this first episode of my incoming series about cooking Pad Krapow recipe, I'm showing you how to cook Pad Krapow Goong. In Thai, 'Goong' means shrimp, so as you can guess, this Pad Kra Pao recipe is Thai basil shrimp stir fry.
I know some people will ask about the spelling of this dish, so there you go:
There are plenty of English transcriptions for ผัดกะเพรา: Pad Kra Pao, Pad Krapow, Pad Gaprao, Pad Kaprao,... so just pick the one you prefer, there is no right or wrong spelling
And for กุ้ง (shrimp in Thai), you can write it Goong, or Kung. Same as in English, it can be called shrimp, but also prawn. So now you know: Pad Kra Pao Kung, and Pad Krapow Goong... are in fact the exact same recipe! 😜
Pad Kra Pao can also be called Pad Bai Kra Pao, because 'Bai" means leaves in Thai, and this recipe is basically that: Thai Holy Basil Stir Fry, with the meat of your choice (you will see in the next episodes what else can be used instead of shrimp)

● 1 cup Thai holy basil leaves
● 3-4 pieces Thai holy basil flowers
● 6 Red jinda chilies
● 6 Green jinda chilies
● 4 Red dried chilies
● 15 cloves Thai small garlic
● 1 cup Shrimp
● 3 Tbsp cooking oil
● ⅓ cup Water
Sauce
● 2 Tbsp Oyster sauce
● 1 Tbsp Soy sauce
● ½ Tbsp Fish sauce
● ½ Tbsp Black soy sauce
● 1 tsp Sugar

Sawadee krap Khun Nin. When I lived in Chiang Mai the local told me the real trick is to fry some kaprow (spelling intended) leaves first in the hot pan really brings out their flavour into the oil

Beautiful, but Krapao hard to grow in Europe, tried two times seeds from Krung Thai but no chance, didn't work :-(
