Actually, those who told these stories understood very well what the Nature of such beings would be like. When you are not bound by the shackles of mortality, your moral standards CANNOT be the same of mortals, it wouldn't make sense.
Imagine you would NEVER die, NEVER. And now imagine your devotees had such a brief life, the duration of a blink of your eye. Imagine they are ants. Do you give much importance to the ants' colony you exterminate in your backyard? No. Why? because you believe your purpose is higher than the purpose of an ant, and it is justifiable to exterminate the colony. Similarly, and eternal being would see us like we see ants.

@@Cobalt1520Ha, ha, NO. Speaking as someone who's ancestors worshipped said gods, I emphatically disagree. It's one thing to be looked upon with cold calculation, impartiality, and indifference. It's another to be deliberately targeted, directly or indirectly, in an act of spite. The gods are meant to perform certain actions within the role of the sphere of their divine influence, this is true. But it's one thing to simply be caught up in the wake of the movement of their function in the world vs. their twisting of it to suit the whims of their petty spite.

@@oceanberserker The norse gods are only immortal due to a constant supply of golden apples from Iðunn. When Loki lured Iðunn out of Asgard the golden apples stopped growing and the gods began to age rapidly. They got pissed when they figured out Loki took Iðunn out of Asgard and made him get her back. Only once Iðunn returned did the golden apples grow again and the norse gods became young and immortal.
Greek gods rely on worship to stay immortal and powerful which is why they had mortals construct temples dedicated to each specific God.

First, Zeus with his constant cheating and going behind the other gods backs; Hera starting a war against her own family; and now Demeter poisoning the earth and killing thousands, if not tens of thousands, of innocent people who, by the way, worshipped and looked up to her specifically.

Remember, she is a nature goddess and that does not make her kind by assumption, as nature can be cruel. The strong eat or kill the weak in nature and she is doing just that: she is an immortal goddess who kills the weak mortals, though not for survival but because she wants to claim her daughter back at any cost.
Also, we saw plenty of times that Demeter is uncompromising, head strong and has a deep need to control anything she claim as her own. Let's remember that she unleashes the frost and snowstorms during the winter so that every mortal suffers the absence of Persephone like she does.
And, if we see this from another point of view, this is just another way for her to punish Hades. She basically said to him that she is killing those mortals to enhance the army of the dead and so she is giving him the burden of those deaths, while she appears innocent. And she said just that to Persephone: that this was Hades' idea, not hers

I can see the shock in Hades’s face Demeter is willing to kill innocent mortals that literally just be living their normal lives all because “it was an apart of the plan” tbh for what? killing mortals for power? I can see why Gaia summoned Typhon that may be harsh but it’s for the good.

I always had a problem with evil taking too much of our favorite deities in polytheism in which some people enjoy demonizing associating with the devil from Abrahamic folklore, which can be a bit too much to accept with especially those superstitious people of Christianity who enjoy preaching the supremacy of this one god with a capital “G” to claim as the only good deity, which is something that I can’t stand.

Okay but the original myth that this is all based on is very interesting. In the original a king goes into Demeter's sacred grove and begins destroying everything. Until he gets to the center and then proceeds his top down the most sacred tree of all which was actually a nymph. In retribution she causes him to become endlessly hungry to the point where he eats himself. How I interpret this myth is that if you destroy the land you live on you will inevitably starve to death.
