@scoopsmagoo It is accurate. Thanos didn't interfere with Earth himself until Infinity War. The ancient one protects earth. He didn't kill within the 9 Realms or Odin would've done something about it as the 9 reals were under his protection. Ego really wouldn't care about Thanos as long as he wasn't killing Ego's kids.
The ancient one said that she couldn’t see the future farther than her own death , that’s why she didn’t know doctor strange have the stone to thanos .
She can't see past her own death... but her death doesn't have to be in that same spot in every timeline. But perhaps she saw no way of defeating Thanos herself, only that Dr. Strange could, so she knew she had to choose the path that led to her death.
While I know little about the comic books, when it comes to the movies though The Ancient One said "Strange is meant to be the best of us". That does not sound like someone who "knows for certain", it sounds more like someone who has "faith in a prophecy". There is a distinction between those two. So the way I see it, she likely was told a prophecy or received a prophecy that indicated Strange would become the best sorcerer supreme, but she didn't actually see it happen.
I think what she meant when she said "Doctor Strange is meant to be the best of us" was not that he was more powerful than her. But that his ability to make the right decisions without internal or external influence. Basically his Humanity to do the right thing made him better than any other sorcerer Supreme.
Indeed, I think it's meant to show how Doctor Strange could think outside the box, way outside the box than other Sorcerer Supreme despite how accustomed and great they were at dealing with things literally outside of reality. Whilst they might've had great powers to bend things, I feel Doctor Strange is made greater cause he's more adept at coming up with solutions despite any limitations and finding loopholes rather than relying on simply power.
YES! SHe and the comic showed that she/he is tempted to use the dark arts. She had enough of preventing her death that is why she embraced death even tho she knew she will die cause she saw Dr. Strage will lead the order to a better reality.
Pretty sure strange is gonna be stronger no matter what. It’s how it’s meant to work right? Like Thor becoming stronger than Odin, the literal all father of the nine realms
@@patman0250 what do you mean no? I’m pretty sure he’s inevitably going to be stronger than her no matter what. After just a few years he has a great understanding of the mystic arts imagine what he can do with a couple hundred.
That's what I think too. She could easily defeat them. But she chose not to. After all she lived over 1 thousand years.... it was time to pass the torch and she knew eventually strange would surpass her.

@@eskanda3434 Sorry, but I have to disagree. The ANCIENT One has hundreds of years of experience. At the time that Thanos arrived, Strange only had a couple of years. Yes, he read all the text, but his knowledge of application is a bit green.

why wouldn’t she use the time stone then? she said she spent so much time looking at this specific point (her death) but couldn’t see past it. why wouldn’t she use the time stone?
She basically was the most powerful MCU character. Even if Thanos had the infinity stones, she could have countered anything he did with her magic. It's insane when you think about it. She basically can do what Thanos could with the infinity stones, with the only difference being that she was experienced with it for hundreds of years.
The characters I respect the most in the MCU Odin, The ancient one, Heimdall, and Frigga [Edited]They were the wisest conscious entities in the MCU. They had a very powerful existence.
TLDR: She looked into the future and saw her talk with Bruce. She then knew immediately that Stephen's plan, and his actions were successful once Cap showed up with the Time Stone right after Bruce left. She then had to make sure that conversation played out the same way so she could make sure Bruce knew the importance of bringing the stone back so that things could play out as they would normally without any interruptions. That way she could see that Strange would be a great and powerful Sorcerer Supreme and still not see past her own death. The way I view her knowing that Strange will be a great Sorcerer Supreme, but also not being able to see past her own death has to do with the time travel in End Game. Look at it this way. She was visited by Bruce Banner during the battle of New York. She was convinced that the future Sorcerer Supreme would give up the Time Stone in order to save the universe. As soon as Cap showed up (assuming a literal second after Banner left) she knew immediately that Strange had won. He had beaten back Thanos, and succeeded in his mission. Therefore she knew that he would do great things as the Sorcerer Supreme. We know that she can see into the future with the stone, so she had likely seen that entire interaction played out years before, and thus researched Stephen before hand. She knew that Banner was going to come looking for the stone. She then had to play dumb in order to make Banner understand the gravity of taking the stone, so that he would make sure they were all returned at the right time, every time, so that events could play out as they should.
We know that timetravel in the mcu creates new timelines so what you say cannot be true, but we have several options of how she knew Dr. Strange: 1. She saw into many different futures, in some she survived AND Stephen became Sorcerer Supreme. 2. She lied and can actually see past here death 3. If timetravel is possible with the timestone, she traveled to the future after her death to learn what happens 4. She looked into different realities (maybe those created by timetravel)
@@Patrick-mz5ph Actually his thesis makes sense, how was Cap able to return the stones after the fact if he wasn't able to correct the timelines they altered ?
@@strykrpinoy just because the stones were returned, the timelines did not vanish/ become identical with the Main timeline. In one of these timelines gamora, thanos and his army are gone. bringing the stones back was just because they are needed in that timeline. Like Dr. Strange cannot win against Dormamu without the timestone. Besides Cap created himself a new timeline by traveling back in time and living his life in the past. You not just travel through time, but through timelines/parallelrealities
MCU works on multiverse theory so the universe that Bruce spoke with the Ancient one is already a different universe/timeline than the Doctor Strange movie. The Doctor Strange movie being part of the "Sacred timeline".
Considering how powerful dormammu is, which completely dwarfs Thanos with all infinity stones, and that the ancient one not only defends herself but Earth and indeed our entire dimension from him... Thanos would be hard pressed indeed to defeat the ancient one. Side note, she wasn't defeated by howeveryouspellhisname because she wasn't prepared for his ruthlessness. She clearly states she's seen it happen many times, although her not being able to see past it is debatable. I believe she let him kill her because it was the only way to forge Dr strange into the master she needed him to be. "He was meant to be the greatest of us" It's clear her overall life's mission was to bring about the rise of Dr Strange. That nasty business with the zealots and the sanctums being destroyed were all part of her plan from the beginning, as was her death.
She's both over powered and loveable. I was so sad when she died. Great example of with great power comes great responsibility. She gave up everything to keep the world safe from Dormammu and the forces of evil. She deserves a good rest.
In the MCU, I think she's at least as powerful as Thanos while he possesses multiple Infinity Gems, because even Strange showed us that he was also near that bar (without even using the time stone in the fight on Titan). So I would even rate her up there possibly with someone like Hela in raw power (she defended Earth against Dormammu level threats, after all). I feel as if Strange might even be stronger than her though, because she was "ancient" at this point, and she knew how powerful he would become as her successor. It would have been cool to see her face off against Thanos, because I suspect she's even craftier than Strange is in a fight and may have given the Mad Titan a run for his money.
Are you Kidding? Dr Strange used the time stone to fight against Thanos lol. He saw everything possible in the future at least 14 million times and he already knew everything like how to fight ad what magics to use and how Thanos will respond. He knew everything that's why he put a good fight but no matter how he fights he never can win against Thanos and he chose the only one possible outcome.
In theory the Ancient One could do anything Dr. Strange did in Infinity War, where he held his own against Thanos despite the latter having FOUR of the Infinity Stones.
I know this video is about the character “ The Ancient One”, but can we give props to Tilda Swintons performance & casting as the character. 👏🏾👏🏾✨ Great video btw!
she did a great job as the ancient one. i was a little suprised that they were going to have her play the sorcerer supreme when in the comics the sorcerer supreme is a dude, however she did do a great performance 5*
She’s saying that he is ‘supposed to be the greatest of us’ due to a prophecy. She can see that he has the potential to be great but she’s relying on that prophecy and doesn’t know if he actually is who that prophecy is talking about or not
Incorrect. She did that crazy looking at the future outcomes thing so far back to make Strange become who he was. His 14 million outcomes was nothing compared to what she did so he can see what he did. One minor change in that movie and all of a sudden he's different become the sorcerer supreme, which means he doesn't retain the time stone. Which means he doesn't do any of the things he did in infinity war. Which means no one knows there's a 14 million to one chance. Which means thanos wins. The math is unfathomable
I think she's one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. One of my favorites as well. With all that knowledge about the multiverse, but still knows that she has limits and acknowledges that Doctor Strange is meant to be the best of all the Sorcerer Supremes. It makes sense Thanos waited for her to die before going on a quest for the Infinity Stones.
She couldn't see past her *own* death, meaning her own future after she died (which is nothing because dying means loss of all bodily functions). She could still see the possibilities of other people's futures like Strange.
And the funny thing is, he's nowhere near his full potential. He's not even Sorcerer Supreme yet and he was powerful enough by Endgame that they had to use him holding back a whole ocean to keep him out of the final fight.
@@MistaWordz Yeah, that was a bit of a disappointment. As great as they made him in infinity war, and then to waste him in endgame. My other big disappointment with endgame was we didn't really get to see much of the new iron man armor's capabilities. They just glossed over it.
@@brussell639 they had to nerf their most powerful characters for the final battle, that is why captain marvel came in the end too and they could not let strange fight thanos cuz he would beat him EAAASILYY
@@generalkermit6421 what kind of foolishness is this? Thanos was playing around in infinity war! He literally stood in one spot and was just testing the gauntlets powers. If anything they had to nerf the infinity gauntlet in the movie because at full power with 4 stones thanos would have made light work of EVERY hero that was on Titan..
agreed she has seen up until the point of her death or just before, and she isn't the type to try and change her own fate, potentially risking the fate of her universe. so she would play along at that point.
About her knowing Strange was going to be the best Sorcerer Supreme, it's entirely possible she got that not from looking into the future herself, but from some old legend. The fact that the Darkhold mentions the Sorcerer Supreme in reference to Wanda, her being even stronger, would seem to suggest knowledge about Stephen, or the Sorcerer Supreme of that part of that timeline, might have been circulating among sorcerers for a very long time.
The Ancient One could not see past her death, but she can look into other times. Maybe she saw during her life a future in which she died to Thanos, then did what Dr. Strange did, saw the one good outcome and that was the outcome of her death. She then proceeds toe die willingly, making victory and peace to all universes and realities possible. Long story short, she could've seen past her 'present death' with a loophole, but could not see past her 'final death', if that makes sense. Awesome videos mate, you are very accurate, clear and direct! Mad props!
I believe the only way to keep dormammu at Bay and to cancel out his power is to use his own power against him. That's the reason why she siphoned off power from dormammu's dimension. That and she was probably one of the few that had the ability to siphon off power without influence and without performing the ritual. She was the only reason i think dormammu hadn't destroyed that reality up to that point. After she died the only thing that protected their reality was the deal that doctor strange forced upon dormammu. She was the sacrifice to save and protect their reality. I think that sums up her intentions pretty well.
I've noticed while watching the MCU that while being powerful is important, also being creative and we'll trained is even more important. I like that, it's not just who can put who in the ground but who's been training and who wants to win the most. Maybe that's why I like these movies idk 😂.
When you were speaking about the ancient ones combat styles, it reminded me of this one scene from the comics. I can’t remember which it was, I’m not a comic reader. I think it was Ghost rider fighting like a Airborne Ranger Special Forces guy, but nonetheless a human. It showed thought bubbles and the whole time he was telling himself “okay I can do this, I’ve fought people like this before, I just have to make sure I don’t get 1 single time”.
When Thor and Dr Strange first met, Dr strange knew exactly who Thor and Loki were. He also said he kept a list of individuals that pose a threat to the world. So, how the f*** did he not know who Thanos was in Infinity War?
@@kibe1146 Sorry for the confusion. I know Thanos worked in secret, killing half the universe is probably something you would want to keep on the low. What i mean is how come the Sorcerer Supreme protector of the Earth, reality and all seeing didn't have a clue whats so ever. Thanos has been alive way before he began his quest for the Stones. So howcome Dr Strange had never heard of him?
I actually think that he knows who thanos is... i think the "who?" In the beginning of Infinity war was more of asking if he heard the name right... It's like when someone tells you something but you're unsure if you heard it right so you ask them to repeat again just to make sure...
In the comics Agatha Harkness avoided the Ancient One on purpose, while not her enemy, Agatha knew of her power, and Agatha was just short of the power of a Sorcerer Supreme. No majical purveyor in this dimension could best the Ancient One without her will. Strange's inexperience is the only reason he is ever bested where majic is concerned
I think her firm belief of Stephen becoming better than every other sorcerer supreme, has more to do with Stephen morals, intellect and genius, and less about abilities. It has been know for centuries that the time stone can trap someone in an infinite loop, she surely knew to do it as well. But Stephen recklessness and quickness of mind make him achieve more with the sorcerer supreme's knowledge. The Ancient one had some serious flaws, she lied, overvalued her life over other's and made pretty selfish desitions on her career. But at least she was able to accept that she wasn't the best for the job. Agamotto was an almost all powerful sorcerer, he was the guardian of the Time stone and was able to contain and understand its power. Stephen had the genius to use it, and gave it away. He had the strength no other sorcerer had, to see over his mission and actually protect our reality over the stone possession.
@Snehil Shrey Dr Strange does not have photographic reflexes. He learned the basic of time stone that can for the time loop, while looping the time during the bargain with Dormamu, maybe like a million time(who knows the exact time), he used the interval time to learn not all but most of sorcerer's ability to improve himself. This event grants him way more knowledge on sorcerer skill which we can see later in infinity war he can single-handed keep fighting Thanos until the last moment. He didn't lost at that moment or we call it as allowing the event to happen in order to "win" the final battle. The Ancient On actually contradict a lot with the back story actually because she wouldn't know Dr Strange is the best sorcerer among all but knowing that she couldn't see through after her death, how can she determined that Dr. Strange is the best of all? My speculation is she see through Dr. Strange future just like a fortune teller 🤔
@@gustavoaragon4194 100 percent correct. He is also the master of dark magic. That's why the Acient Ones main job is to keep him away from the eye. If he regains the eye, he will control time itself. Time is the stitch that holds together the entire fabric of reality and the universe.
Regarding her scene in the _Endgame_ movie, I think it’s quite likely that the Ancient One already knew ahead of time that Hulk would be arriving that day to acquire the Time Stone and that Captain America would also be arriving to return it since she could see any and all future events prior to her eventual death. In either case, the part where she appeared surprised to learn that Doctor Strange had willingly given away the Time Stone, and where she expressed uncertainty about Hulk’s ability to survive and have the stones returned, was all a deliberate act. For if she had let Hulk know beforehand what the end-result of the Time Heist would ultimately be, his behavior and choice of actions later on could have then been compromised in a negative and perhaps even fatal manner. (To quote the words of the restored Doctor Strange: “If I tell you what happens, it won’t happen”).
Fun fact! “The Ancient One” Abbreviated is Tao which is a religion developed from Taoist philosophy and folk and Buddhist religion and concerned with obtaining long life and good fortune often by magical means. Not sure if it was intentional or not but still interesting.
Love the video mate and the theory of these three characters being too much for Thanos. Odin was my favourite, unlike the ancient one hated how underpowered he always seemed. Quick question, did she ever state that she knew Strange would become the greatest sorcerer or is that just assumed?
I've always thought it would have been cool if she was Scáthach since she's ancient and Celtic, or if Scáthach was based on her. It would be a cool way to tie her into the real world.
I don't know why Baron and Strange overreacted when they learned she siphons energy from the dark dimension... She's literally a mystical hero who defends the innocent and protects the laws of reality and existence against those who try to abuse it. She isn't an evil witch, she isn't corrupt, and she doesn't abuse her power and knowledge. She passes it on to others and yet again protects and defends. Of course it is a shock but that's no reason to cut ties with her or immediately paint her as a traitorous villain.
“She can fold outside the mirror dimension. She can slow one moments into a thousand. She can project her astral form and others’ too. She can send your mind/ consciousness into another dimension. She siphons unlimited power from the dark dimension. She can travel through space with her sling ring.” Infinity stones:*useless*
Wait. Couldn't she have just time traveled with the Avengers and fight Thanos then? If Thanos could bring his whole army travelling from the past, why not the Ancient One as well?
Same, Tilda is a boss. I also think it would be a cool chance for Marvel to also introduce a previous Sorcerer Supreme who hails from Asia, that way people get off Tilda's and Marvel's back, we can have Tilda Ancient One and also her supremely powerful Asian teacher. They could even have her predecessor be of Nepali origin, since in the comics he is simply from the Himalayan region, and that way also bypass the usual "Asian wise man" trope. Tilda's series could explore the lore of other hidden places like Ta Lo and even introduce K'un Lun, setting up Iron Fist, which could also cross over with a Shang Chi storyline........alright I'll stop nerding out
IF Thanos came to earth he would have avoided her sanctum at all costs. Keep in mind Wanda was able to straight up beat Thanos on her own and while Wanda at full power is supposedly stronger than Dr. Strange, I don't think the same can be said for the Ancient One. While Strange has his hesitancy with using certain resources which makes him "weaker", the Ancient One would use any and every resource at her disposal.
How do we know that Strange uses magic to stabilize his fingers. When he gives the time stone to Thanos in infinity war his fingers seem to tremble a bit. Wasn't the entire point of the scene with the one-handed wizard in the Doctor Strange movie that you don't need steady fingers or even hands to use magic?
He does use magic to steady his hands i assume even though it wouldnt affect his magic use its prob uncomfortable and would make his life harder there are several moment where we see his hands close up and they arnt shaking and when we do its normally after a big fight so maybe his power is weakened to where he cant afford to do it
Pretty good job. I didn't think Tilda Swinton could pull the role off when I first heard of it but I became convinced after watching Dr. Strange. To the point where I wish she hadn't died just retired.
I think they tried to make her appear as a non-binary but yeah, she still looks like a White Woman going through chemotherapy. I think I’m used to her now as the Ancient One.
Not only did they make that choice because Tilda Swinton is a spectacular actress, but also so the movie wouldn't be affected in other countries such as China, as explained by the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige.
Pretty sure that was because the ancient one is supposed to be from Tibet and the Chinese don't like that. That's why she's not Asian at all to keep that sweet China money coming in.
One scene that got stuck in my mind was when in endgame hulk travelled in past to get time stone and he said "im looking for doctor strange" and acient one said "u got early 20 years
I was thinking about the scene Beyond her death problem too. This could be easily resolved in a few ways. Someone like strange could have come back in time from the future to let her know important details. More likely she probably had access to some sort of Prophecy. She didn't have specific details on him surpassing her. As she put it he is supposed to be the best of us. That sounds vague enough to be prophecy to me.
@@jacktrussler20 theres probably one reason about odin ego and ancient one and all the other old characters they would have probably defeated thanos but they died so man that never happend but if that happend avengers would have one right im correct
There are some controversial things in dr. Strange's movie for sure: Like the ancient is so powerful like just let the person die of old age or something. Having her die like that underserved her. Listening to this video cemented my repetitive thoughts toward her character. The ancient is so cool. One of the characters in the movie I wish we got more time with. She said to Banner,"strange is supposed to be the best of us." Does she mean sorcerer's, humans, or sorcerer supremes? My understanding of how she saw her end is through seeing Dr. Strange's future because he doesn't rise without her falling. So she couldnt see her end because her end or her fate is tied with strange's ascension. At least that makes sense to me because you need one part for the other to happen. If you follow the belief that all life is connected and one event needs to happen for the other to take place.
Well technically dr.strange was shown to be the greatest sorcerer of all time in the past when they went back in time to fight Thanos cause that even took place in the past which was technically before her death which was technically in a different was a different timeline but still in her past before her death took place so technically she was telling the truth and was correct on that.
Ik this is comment is a year old but i just wanted to say that the timeline where they were fighting Thanos in end game, the ancient one was already dead. Well they went back to the past where they were all alive, but don't forget that after they took all stone "they returned to their own timeline where all the things already happened like the death of ancient one" and thanos followed them
Yea but why not get the 5, be unstoppable, and just wait until you realize how to get the soul stone, i guarantee he wouldnt be able to fight the Ancient One without the Mind, Soul, or Reality stones and the Mind stone is protected by vision and by extension the Ancient One, he just doesnt have the means the fight her, and Odin is just unimaginabley powerful, maybe the single most powerful mortal in existence, thanos would not beat him without some stones, which the space stone was under his protection and the power stone couldnt be wieldedwithout the gauntlet, and the means to make it wasnt possible while Odin was guarding Neidavalier so he couldnt use stones anyways, he was locked out of options until SOMEONE died
@@gravytube4099 the writers have confirmed it. If Thanos had grabbed 5 stones then everyone in the universe would have put their petty BS aside and team up to stop him from getting the 6th. When Bruce told the Ancient One that Dr Strange gave the stone away, she realized that Strange gave it away on purpose because she knew Dr Strange would not just give it away. She realized that Strange saw this out and that she was not to decline giving the stone to Bruce. Had nothing to do with looking into the future. She just trusted Dr Strange. 4:40 look how Dr.strange also drops in the background...Marvel has so much details...wow
Canadian lad wants to know your location.
Strange:
1. She saw into many different futures, in some she survived AND Stephen became Sorcerer Supreme.
2. She lied and can actually see past here death
3. If timetravel is possible with the timestone, she traveled to the future after her death to learn what happens
"He was meant to be the greatest of us"
It's clear her overall life's mission was to bring about the rise of Dr Strange. That nasty business with the zealots and the sanctums being destroyed were all part of her plan from the beginning, as was her death.

To give your life or to lay down your life for somebody else is the greatest gift anyone can give.
He knew everything that's why he put a good fight but no matter how he fights he never can win against Thanos and he chose the only one possible outcome.

she did a great job as the ancient one. i was a little suprised that they were going to have her play the sorcerer supreme when in the comics the sorcerer supreme is a dude, however she did do a great performance 5*
She fits the part so well. She has such a "other worldly" look about her as it is nevermind her superb acting skills.
The main point is she saw the cape choose dr strange and no Matter how strong u are, u can’t wear the cape, the cape chose the prophecy

The Ancient One is one of my top 5 fav MCU characters and I really hope we get to see more of her. Tilda Swinton was perfect for this role.
Dr. Strange really kicked ass in infinity war. I was so impressed with his fight against thanos.
And the funny thing is, he's nowhere near his full potential. He's not even Sorcerer Supreme yet and he was powerful enough by Endgame that they had to use him holding back a whole ocean to keep him out of the final fight.
@@MistaWordz
Yeah, that was a bit of a disappointment. As great as they made him in infinity war, and then to waste him in endgame. My other big disappointment with endgame was we didn't really get to see much of the new iron man armor's capabilities. They just glossed over it.

I really like the Sorcerer Supreme (Ancient One), she is so powerful! And she's such a great teacher.
I wouldn’t even say she underestimated kaiciliuses ruthlessness. I think she knew exactly what needed to happen and just played along like a script.
agreed she has seen up until the point of her death or just before, and she isn't the type to try and change her own fate, potentially risking the fate of her universe. so she would play along at that point.
About her knowing Strange was going to be the best Sorcerer Supreme, it's entirely possible she got that not from looking into the future herself, but from some old legend. The fact that the Darkhold mentions the Sorcerer Supreme in reference to Wanda, her being even stronger, would seem to suggest knowledge about Stephen, or the Sorcerer Supreme of that part of that timeline, might have been circulating among sorcerers for a very long time.
yes i believe she is more likely referencing some prophecy as that is more consistent with her explanation of being unable to see past her own death.
Mad props!
Man I love The Ancient One’s Character. Sad that she died, I was wishing to see her in the second movie.
They could do a movie with just her and Odin 1000 years ago
There is an Avengers BC that runs along those lines, it has Odin for sure, it has a Ghost Rider and Black Panther too.

In the comics Agatha Harkness avoided the Ancient One on purpose, while not her enemy, Agatha knew of her power, and Agatha was just short of the power of a Sorcerer Supreme. *And* Odin *AND* Ego.
@Snehil Shrey Yeah but that only makes him learn faster, how he uses the abilities he learn, I think that's the key
@Snehil Shrey maybe I missed the part of it. Gotta watch it again
Agamotto was not the guardian of the time stone. His eye is the time stone its self. The 1rst and most powerful sorcerer ever
@@gustavoaragon4194 100 percent correct. He is also the master of dark magic. That's why the Acient Ones main job is to keep him away from the eye. If he regains the eye, he will control time itself. Time is the stitch that holds together the entire fabric of reality and the universe.
Some said this video would never be uploaded without a claim.... the legends were wrong.
I wish we could get movies showcasing the ancient one and odin in their prime.

Wait. Couldn't she have just time traveled with the Avengers and fight Thanos then? If Thanos could bring his whole army travelling from the past, why not the Ancient One as well?
14 million timelines with one victory, she could have altered something very dangerous if so
I would love a movie completely about her and how she learned her powers, including drawing from the dark dimension.
WOW!
I couldn't agree more with you.

Can we talk about how they completely retconned the Ancient One from a little old asian man to a Celtic woman?
This version of the ancient one is better imo
I think they tried to make her appear as a non-binary but yeah, she still looks like a White Woman going through chemotherapy. I think I’m used to her now as the Ancient One.
Not only did they make that choice because Tilda Swinton is a spectacular actress, but also so the movie wouldn't be affected in other countries such as China, as explained by the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige.
Pretty sure that was because the ancient one is supposed to be from Tibet and the Chinese don't like that.
That's why she's not Asian at all to keep that sweet China money coming in.

I was thinking about the scene Beyond her death problem too. This could be easily resolved in a few ways. Someone like strange could have come back in time from the future to let her know important details. More likely she probably had access to some sort of Prophecy. The acient one is probably powerful since she got centuries of knowledge and experience
There are some controversial things in dr. Strange's movie for sure:
Like the ancient is so powerful like just let the person die of old age or something.
Well they went back to the past where they were all alive, but don't forget that after they took all stone "they returned to their own timeline where all the things already happened like the death of ancient one" and thanos followed them

the ancient one is underrated! I loved this video
Thanos didn’t wait for them to die. He didn’t know where the Soul Stone was and there was no point to go get 5 and not find the last one.
If Bruce did not mention that, they probably would have not gotten the stone.
He needed them all to beat Dr Strange as well. She said herself that he's better than her. Case closed
Very true but then she has experience behind her, what I thought she meant was that he can conger stronger spells - might not mean he can use them in the same way though
Great video! I’ve always wondered why she is not listed as the strongest of them all
I don't think Thanos had to wait for her to die. As Dr. strange is superior than her.
Plus, Odin death which is like Thanos fate.
This is actually my favorite character in the MCU. I was so happy to see the ancient one in endgame.
Why didn't Dr. Strange just push thanos out of his astral form...?
Great question!!!
He has the soul stone, he probably could’ve gotten right back, and doctor strange had to actually touch him to do that, but in their battle it was mostly long range attacks.
@@juliangonzalez4038 but when the nearly had the gauntlet off his hand it would have been the perfect opportunity.
@@emanuelschimpfossl5919 oh snap, good point. But you gotta assume that doctor strange looked into countless outcomes, so even if he did try that trick it obviously didn’t work, if it did he would’ve used it. But he did everything in his ability to cause the outcome where they win.
@@juliangonzalez4038 yeah I know, I just never thought about it, till I saw the ancient one push hulk out of his body with just one punch ^^
Generally wish she had her own movie that would be mental
