- This is not a traditional Skout Airguns review, but rather a test of my new .30 caliber Skout EPOCH competition bench rest PCP air rifle shooting at longer ranges such as 70 and 100 yards. In this video I will give you an up close look at my custom .30 caliber EPOCH air rifle as well as explain some interesting facts about this outstanding platform.
This video will also cover the assembly and operation of the new Skout Rear Rest, which a precision shooting rest that fits directly onto the EPOCH for unparalleled control and accuracy while shooting. This may be the only PCP out currently that I am willing to drop 2K+ on at the moment. My LCS was worth every penny and Western Airguns has some sweet stuff but damn…I love that this company is less than an hours drive and unlike LCS I don’t see them going under anytime soon. So many good scopes out there make it difficult to pick one at times.
Beautiful grouping. The thing is, pellets only put about 50 fpe on target at 70 yards flying out the muzzle at 890 fps. The bc is so low. That's why I never use pellets for hunting. On average, any caliber air rifle pellet loses anywhere from 120-150 fps at 50 yards and doubles that at 100 yards. Most slugs are ⅓ of that. For paper pellets are fine, but for hunting, I wouldn't. Sorry, I'm just rambling. Great video, as always.

Yeah but 100 yards is standard bench distance and only pellets are allowed for bench rest competitions. I definitely shoot both from my AEA Challenger. Which is tuned with a reg. It will shoot one MOA easily on a calm day with pellets even .75” which is the best grouping I can get on a calm day. In the wind it’s double that about 1.5” with pellets. With Zan and Javelin slugs .301 caliber 54 grains it will do one inch as well but with significantly fewer shots as the speed will be around 1000 fps for accurate slug shooting and around the typical 870 fps for pellet accuracy. This gun is capable of crazy power launching 68 gr as 1050 if I want to which would be plenty for a coyote out here in Idaho out to 150 yards but generally I keep the gun tuned to 870 for pellets as the reg is internally adjustable only which makes tuning a pain. I have it down to a science though as I have markings on the reg which mean I can change power and get what I want without having to reassemble and test over the chrony and disassemble and tune through trial and error. I just pick the power setting and reassemble and it is spot on. Still much bigger PITA than an FX or some externally adjusted rifle but then again only $500 for a regulated .30 cal with hunting power Which fits this disabled veteran’s budget. Plus tinkering with things is the part I enjoy about this hobby. Not to mention the satisfaction of getting accuracy on a budget I can afford. I wish you all luck on your plinking and competition shooting. Hopefully I’ll eventually meet some of you at big meets like RMA. Which I hope to attend this year.
@bryanzimmerman8646 I had 4 AEA's at 1 point, and they were all great. The .30's I had in 24" and 32" barrels, and they were tack drivers with .303 slugs, but as you said, I love tinkering, so I sold them all and got 2 FX air rifles. I miss my .357, though. I had the Big 9 long stock and it was a beast. So was the 32" .30. I was slinging AVS 70 grain .303's at 1000 fps with the little regulator they sold for 100$ but that reg was shit so I bought Humas for the lower powered AEAs as in the .25 and .30 24" barrels and they performed flawless. I was going to purchase the Challenger Pro long barrel .30 but I went with a Dynamic instead and I have a 3 year warrty instrad of 1 year.I just chose FX for more aftermarket accessories and all that good stuff. I'm shooting 85 grains in my Dynamic right now at 990 fps and 60 grain Altaros in my .25 700 mm M3 at 940 fps. I love all airguns but I'm a hunter so I steer clear of pellets and I like the most downrange energy so I look for high bc slugs that are accurate and right now that's Griffins boattails and Altaros Queens and AVS 70/75 grains. I don't know how I missed this video. It was actually a good thing. You keep selling me on this and I don't want to buy it because it's so expensive. On another note: I know you can shoot without the gadgets. Don't fall in to it.... You will lose it if you don't use it bro. Don't get lazy like the rest of the world. Use the talent God gave you bro. My eyes are shot and I lost my steady hands, but I refuse to use their gadgets. I improvise adapt and overcome.

Only when changing barrels or calibers. But maybe before that. I guess I would like to see if I can get dime groups at 100 yards instead of 1 inch groups...so after some research I probably will tweek some settings.

Nice rifle. If you can't afford one the 30cal Gauntlet 2SL with a high power CV LIFE scope is the way to go.

Great video but I think with that gun. Even with the shore barrel, you should be shooting a 100 a 152 100 m in when you put the long barrel, you should start a 152 50 in 300. Meters

how about your next video, please place the chronograph right impact (assumed that rifle tuned at impact)?

Its tuned at the muzzle. I don't want to shoot my chronograh.

Tuned at muzzle is useless. While actual impact in fps is true. So what is the use going out with a scope & range?
Try it next time doing your next video. No way you are going to hit & kill the chronograph, after gun/scope/target are tested & true.

What do you think about the Epoch? Long lasting,reliable? Do you think the scout evo's upgrades will be interchangable to this one?
They are usually inrterchagable. I like mine so far. Its easy to use and only 2-3 moving parts on the whole gun. Coming out with tuning video next.

The trigger is super sensative. like instead of being 6 ouces it's like 1 ounce trigger pull. So if you barely brush it it goes off or sometimes I say that when it goes off too soon when I'm aiming. When I don't expect it to fire. Shooter error always.
